An Outer Banks Family Tradition Since 1960 Darrell’s Seafood Restaurant is located in Manteo, NC on Roanoke Island. Operated by the Daniels family for 60 years now, Darrell’s is a family-style seafood restaurant that’s been a favorite since 1960. Seafood is our specialty; the fried oysters are widely regarded as the best around, served with the traditional fixings of coleslaw, French fries and hush puppies. But there’s much more. Darrell’s has a wood-fired grill for barbecue and many other options for the land lovers. Both a children’s menu and lighter fare options are also available. Darrell’s helpings are generous – you won’t leave hungry, and our desserts are homemade and delicious! Make us a part of your OBX tradition.

I visited back in July 2023, and everything was fantastic! The highlight was definitely the fish—served hot and fresh, seasoned perfectly, with a delightful crispy exterior and a soft interior. The platter offered more than enough food; I left completely satisfied. Highly recommend!

Darrell’s Seafood Restaurant was a great first experience! Despite the busy atmosphere, we were seated promptly and received excellent service. Our drinks were refilled quickly, and our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. I ordered the Catch of the Day, which was tuna, served with pineapple salsa, rice, and beans. I ordered the Tuna Blackened and requested a medium cook and it was fantastic. I highly recommend when they have it! Our server, Carter, was incredibly fast and friendly.

Best fried chicken in Dare County. We love this place and great food. We live about 45 mins away and will go there for date night or if we are just in the area. Seafood is fantastic love the catfish. I can’t eat shellfish so it’s all the other delicious food I get. Wife loves the shrimp which is local. They have a chocolate cake that is out of this world good.

We had a solid meal with great service in a quaint atmosphere. I especially an enjoyed the fried shrimp and green beans. My hush puppies and clam strips were adequate.

My partner and I stopped here for lunch because it’s been open since 1960!
I bet it’s been open this long because it’s consistent: not amazing but very very good.
We ordered off of the lunch menu, and I was very glad to get some soft shelled crab!
My meal arrived quickly and hot. The batter on the shrimp and soft shell crab was not overdone at all; it was light and wonderful. It tasted very fresh and not “fishy.” It came out fast, further proving that it must not be frozen!
My partner said his flounder wasn’t as hot as my meal and his Mac and cheese was more room temp, but everything was very good and worth the price.
Our meal was around $30 and was on par in terms of size as other meals we’ve had for twice the cost here, so it’s a winner for us!
It’s obvious they’ve stayed in business for consistently serving fresh seafood at a fair price, and since we’ve apparently caught the Manteo bug and are already planning our next trip… We’ll be back!

From the filled parking lot I saw outside this restaurant, I thought this was a must try on our trip. We stopped on our last night in town, near closing.
Our server was great, but I was disappointed in the quality of the food.
I ordered a combo platter of Fried Oysters & Clams. The Oysters were small, greasy & lacked flavor.
I took a slice of the 12-Layer Chocolate Cake to go & that was the best part of the meal.
I would only go back for the Cake.

Local, small diner vibe. Biscuits and gravy are very good. Portions are just right size. I would definitely eat here again. Its worth a bit of a drive. Staff is great.

I REALLY enjoyed this restaurant!! The food was FANTASTIC!!! I got the crab cakes, fries and broccoli salad. Best broccoli salad I’ve ever had. It had real crispy bacon in it, not the soggy fat pieces. The hush puppies were great as well as the seafood platter. The waitress was very nice and attentive. Decor was pleasant. Seems like a place all of the locals go! I would highly recommend this restaurant for all- locals and visitors!
