Great spot! Highly recommend. I feel compelled to write a review since they deserve it. Last night was my third time there and I will be back. I recommend you get in before it gets on the next LA Times list and you can’t easily make a reservation anymore. Sean Brock and team are incredibly talented. Excellent service each of the three times I’ve been. Love the pork chop. The deviled egg with ahi will make a normal deviled egg feel like a distant memory. Don’t sleep on the succotash side. Hmm what else? They do amazing things with their greens and veg – I love how they highlight the local farms they use. Awesome music – love the record bar in the front. This place deserves recognition for the awesome food they are serving. If you are looking for a nice and special meal to celebrate something, want to meet up with friends, or just want a cool vibe – I’d give this spot a try.

I was very excited to come because Soulmate was one of my favorite (still dreaming about that Asian eggplant dish). Reservation was easy and we got a table right away. Service was good however she could have called a manager or maybe handled it better even though she tried, instead of letting me stay hungry. Atmosphere is nice but the dj played tempo background music which could have been done without him… I loved the menu but we came during dine LA week and it was limited. Not accommodating if you have food restrictions. Looking back I could have ordered from the regular menu but for some reason the waitress didn’t offer me that. Service was good however when I had an issue she didn’t offer to re-make my food (the short rib had dairy in the grits) she just took the meat I put a side and forget to bring it to my husband to go- only when I asked to waive that dish. Cocktails were very basic with just one flavor even though it was infused with 10 ingredients- which you couldn’t see any because the drinks came in a simple cup, simpler than the ones I have at home. Over all I see the vision, which is southern inspired Californian, but it was trying too much and it wasn’t anything special. My husband said the Ham wasn’t cut fresh and tasted like it sat in the fridge for hours. My beet salad was lacking salt and even a dash of honey or balsamic. The dill was overpowering, but again I do see the vision. Like I mentioned the short rib had dairy in the dish so I couldn’t eat the meat and my server did not offer to bring it to me without it or maybe on the side. I did mentioned my food restrictions at the beginning but she didn’t ask to clarify, she was semi knowable about the ingredients of the dishes . She did try her best to accommodate and gave good service. But she didn’t fix my issue and didn’t escalate it to her manager, why? The whole point of me there is to eat real food (I was starving), not an extra free desert- was very nice of her to offer.
I just didn’t eat all day for this special night for us, so I was hangry. All she had to do was offer me the regular menu or even better just remake my dish. The menu didn’t mention cheese in the grits unfortunately. Our server ignored us when it was time for a check, I guess she was hoping my husband was the one paying because he was the only one who ate anything. But she did try and she was lovely- just didn’t think outside the box… I was a server for 8 years in 3 countries in big restaurants. Private events and chefs, and a bartender. So unfortunately for this place I have a high standard. This was somewhat average and not on the level I expected. 3/10 so for me personally not worth the hype or the price at all.

A chic atmosphere and cool space. I like that their cocktails change and are seasonal. I got the Leek and really enjoyed it. The menu itself is pretty short and concise. There is a flair of southern elements but through a California lens. My favorite dish was the Celery appetizer because of all the textures. Their burger seems to be the most popular since it’s limited. It has a slight gamey taste that gives it a robust meaty taste.

It was so good, I went 2 nights in a row. Met the chef/owner, Sean Brock on the first night. Very friendly & approachable. Food was amazing! Southern meets modern sophistication. Nice options on the menu. Love the live DJ spinning vinyl in the lounge & bar. Highly recommend!

My wife and I were looking forward to enjoying a belated Valentine’s Day supper at Darling, primarily because we wanted to experience Sean Brock’s cooking since we had heard wonderful things about his other restaurants in the South. We knew that the focus of Darling’s menu would not be Southern cuisine, but we were nevertheless happy to venture into Chef Brock’s world. First, the restaurant design and decor were modern, warm, and inviting. It is a large space broken up into different areas, with the most stunning being the DJ booth and listening space. There is striking mural along the main dining room wall called “Legal Tender” which appears to uplift the work of farm laborers in bringing produce into fine dining establishments. It was a thoughtful touch to put the face of a female laborer onto currency, which would never happen since we tend not to value her contributions in that way. We thought the cocktails were imaginative and delicious! One of the dinner highlights to be sure. Almost immediately after we were seated we asked that a burger be held for us since the menu states that they only serve a limited number each night. We also ordered the deviled eggs with bluefin tuna belly, chilled hokkaido scallops, and the salad of lettuce, calamansi and blossoms. The dishes as a whole were quite good, with my favorite being the scallops. However, the lasting impression we had was our negative experience with the slow service. While we understand that kitchens can have a bad day, we watched as at least three tables who were seated AFTER us received their burgers before we did! There is no logical explanation for that and we made sure we let our server know how unhappy we were about that. It was 1.5 hours after we were seated that we finally received our entree. What is ironic is that as slow as it took to get our burger, the staff hurriedly bussed our dishes as if their lives depended on turning the table over ASAP. After some tepid explanation from our server as to why our food took so long, it was not until someone else came over to run my credit card that there came an apology and an offer for a dessert. However, by that time, it was too little too late as we were basically paying and putting on our coats ready to head out. There are many humbler restaurants out there, most without the fanfare of this place, where hospitality is practiced and valued. At Darling we didn’t feel any of that, which is a real shame.

Probably one of the better meals I’ve had in LA in a while. We started with the tomato and stone fruit salad, which I wouldn’t normally order, and it was refreshing and delightful as hell.

The burger was perfect – juicy, cooked just right, and set the bar pretty high for any other burger. They only make a certain amount a night, so if it’s gone, it’s gone.

The strip steak with black truffle hollandaise was next level. That sauce was slap-your-mom good. (Though I would never.)

Cocktails were excellent. They were creative without being weird, and strong without tasting like it. I’m a bourbon girl, so I went with the Corn cocktail. Ended up having two. And our waitress (kicking myself for not remembering her name) was the best. She actually knew the menu inside and out, which was impressive.

This place has it together. Great food, great drinks, great people. I’ll be back.

The atmosphere and service is amazing….I was completely hydrated. They give a still vs sparkling house water option. The cocktails are on point! Artichokes very earthy. Seabass… too salty. The burger…well…I wanted to love it… high quality meat, but it was undercooked and it was lacking seasoning. I would come back for drinks!

Absolutely love this place! I’ve been twice now and it just keeps getting better. The atmosphere is stunning — modern, cool, and effortlessly stylish — the kind of space you actually want to linger in. The food is creative and full of flavor, with unique combinations that really work. And I have to mention the grilled bread — it’s seriously addictive and my favorite thing on the menu. There is a real tree in the middle of the courtyard of the hi-fi lounge with an open ceiling! The hostess Nadia, actually remembers….and is so sweet! Simply fantastic food in a beautiful space.

Great to have Sean Brock here locally bringing us fantastic dishes. Our meal was excellent. Scallops were sublime and the steak was full of different but wonderful flavors. The cocktails were imaginative and right on point matching well with our starters. Will be back again.

Giving 5 stars because this place deserves a chance and I will go back and low number of reviews is statistically misleading.

Did they change much about the interior from Soulmate? No. But did they even change the name of the movi wifi? Also no but that’s not why you go to restaurants so let’s get into it.

Husband got a floral gin cocktail and they made a mean vesper martini so that’s great.
Stone fruit salad and grilled bread were great, and”grilled bread” is a bad name for what’s actually a complicated dish (well worth the $21). Pork shoulder and salmon were both excellent, but $51 for ~6oz of salmon? Let’s be honest… Flavors did slap.

Service wasn’t the *friendliest* but it was fast and attentive also we were in the mood to drink and eat so no complaints (I do like a banter I’ll admit). I’ll take fast and attentive over slow friendly any day.
