Review of Darlene’s – Orland Park Breakfast and Brunch Restaurant
Reviews
Came across this place because the original place had a wait time for an hour and I’ve already traveled an hour to make it to Orland Park. Check and this place wait time was 10 minutes. The moment we were seated the energy/service was top Tier my lovely waitress knows the menu front and back recommendations were on point. Young lady full of positive energy has the start of my birthday feeling great, she’s very attentive and prompt. Food is definitely 10/10 will definitely recommend most definitely be back
The food came out fairly quickly, roughly 10 mins at most, and it was hot and looked very appetizing. My first impression was how big the portion was. I would say I eat a slightly above average amount of food for someone my size, and I could have easily split this with another one to possibly two people, depending on how hungry everyone was. My second impression was the egg. As you can see in the first photo, it looks like it might be slightly over cooked, but when I broke into the yolk, they were still very runny as ordered and added a rich and creamy layer that tied in with the dish perfectly. With my first bite I was also very impressed with how good the house-made tortilla chips were. They were thicker than the typical tortilla chip, but still very crispy on the outside, with a soft bit of tortilla under the outer shell. Which added a nice texture to the dish. The birria beef and red sauce were a welcomed accompaniment, with the beef being flavorful, moist, and fairly spread throughout, and the sauce adding strong, but not overpowering, slightly spicy, savory, smokey, and earthy flavors to the dish. The house made crema was a great companion to the dish, aiding the egg with its creamy flavor, and also adding a slight tang that helped cut through and balance the other flavors. The cilantro, tomato, avocado, beans, and green onion added nice texture and temperature differences, as well as a refreshing layer to help make the dish feel lighter. Overall, this was a very enjoyable meal, a menu item I would recommend to anyone going to dine at Darlene’s, and something I would definitely order again.
The breakfast menu items seemed different than traditional items, but was quite tasty. Traditional items are available though. My wife enjoyed her waffles and brisket. The waffles were soft in texture, and the brisket & sauce were tasty.
I had a Brisket Bowl with the sauces on the side. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of brisket in my bowl. The pancakes were perfect. I would get this meal again. It was actually enough for me to take and have breakfast at home the next day.
Lastly, we both tried the Pumpkin Spiced Latte; quite pretty, but we were not fans. However, you must get a donut or dessert. I wanted a Boston Cream donut but they were out. I got the Almond cake; it was good, but my mind was set on the donut.
The food, however, is the true star of the show. It isn’t just “good”—it is absolutely delicious and phenomenal. I have visited many times now, and the quality is remarkably consistent; I have ALWAYS enjoyed every bite. If you are a fan of hearty, savory breakfasts, you have to try my personal favorite: the Carnivore Omelet. It is packed with flavor and perfectly prepared. Pair that with their biscuits and gravy, which are easily some of the best I’ve ever had, and you have a world-class meal.
Even if you aren’t looking for a full plate, their donuts are a fantastic addition. They are the perfect “little sweet treat” to round out a savory meal or to take home for later.
Beyond the kitchen, the service is great. The staff is attentive, efficient, and adds to the overall wonderful energy of the restaurant. It is clear that the team here cares about the experience they are providing to their guests. Darlene’s is absolutely an amazing place, and it has quickly become a staple in my rotation. Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, you’re in for a treat.
The food is served fast and they are big portions. We ordered steak and eggs, omelet, and a hamburger. Also, cream of chicken rice. Must try!
Don’t forget to try their bakery section. I had the Nutella filled donut. My mouth is watering while writing this portion. DELICIOUS. CLEAN. FRIENDLY.
