The building is large and well-designed, with nicely illuminated signage, large front windows, and plenty of comfortable seating inside, along with a spotlessly clean restroom area. When I went to the counter, I found the staff polite, friendly, and well-presented.
I ordered the Chip Shop Platter, which included chips, a battered sausage, regular haddock, and a chip shop fishcake, and it was great value. I upgraded the fishcake to their in-house version for an extra £1, which was thick and delicious, with lovely flakes of fish. The mushy peas were extra, but worth it, as they were thick with a subtle flavour.
The battered sausage was a proper large chip shop sausage, tasty and moist, with light, crispy batter. The haddock had great flavour, but the batter really stole the show.
Overall, great service, great food, and a must-visit if you are in the area or just passing through.

The vibe is so nice, retro 60s diner style but really calm and warm environment. The staff were all so lovely and friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful!
And the food was perfect! All cooked perfectly, and the menu is great with loads of options including traditional chip shop with some twists, and some nice Greek features too. Really reasonably priced.
We had a seafood platter and a Greek chicken platter and both were lovely. Will defo be back.
The fish was massive, wrapped in the crispiest, lightest batter, while the chips were beautifully soft – those melt-in-the-mouth kind of potatoes you just can’t get enough of.
If you’re in Derby and craving proper fish and chips done right, Darcy’s is the place to be!
Food was outstanding.
Helpful & friendly staff.
Love the 1960s but modern-style interior w/ a bar in the restaurant side.
There’s even a takeaway side though the restaurant has more options than the takeaway side.
Really good:
-dusted baby calamari;
-large cod;
-potato chips (improved from undercooked to crispy & flavourful);
-Oreo Cookies & Cream milkshake;
-caramel apple pie;
-2-meat combo kebab box (HUGE & only 9.99 GBP w/ chips)
-curry sauce;
-salad;
-garlic mayo;
-garlic & herb dip.
1 thing to pt out is the chips have improved significantly from tasting undercooked & bland to being more flavourful & crispy.
Didn’t come here for a long time because of the chips since Darcy’s opened, but my m8 said the chips improved & recommended me to come, & yes the chips tasted great.
Now, the food. The fish is always fresh, with beautifully sweet haddock and a light, non-greasy batter . The portions are incredibly generous—my ‘regular’ fish was more like a whale! But the absolute star of the show is the curry sauce. It’s unlike any other chip shop curry sauce I’ve had; it’s rich, slightly tangy, and clearly made from a secret recipe. It’s so good it brought a smile to my face and is worth the visit alone .
We’ve also tried the lunch special (mini fish, chips, mushy peas and a coffee), which is excellent value, and the fish pie, which was hearty and packed full of flavour . Whether you dine in or grab a takeaway, Darcy’s is a true winner. Highly recommended!
The restaurant specialises in fish and chips, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere for diners looking to enjoy this classic dish. They also offer a convenient takeout option for those on the go, which is a great alternative.
Now, let’s talk about the food—it was nothing short of extraordinary! We opted for the cod and chips, which were perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor, and the steak and ale pie, which was rich and hearty. Each dish came with generous portion sizes that left us feeling satisfied but not overwhelmed.
To top it all off, we decided to indulge in some desserts, and they did not disappoint. Each dessert was a delightful treat, providing the perfect sweet ending to our meal.
Throughout our dining experience, we found that the prices were quite reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the generous portions. Overall, this restaurant exceeded our expectations and provided us with a wonderful dining experience. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu!
Moment you come in you get greeted and sat down at any desk we wanted and i must say the place is very nice yet old style as a theme, food was very nice and the service we got from the 2 ladies was very nice and new their stuff.
Last bit that i personally like is on thru back wall you can see the history of this place which show cases how good the place is.
