I’ve consistently enjoyed Dao Tallahassee up until this evening. The food has always been excellent, and the service has been friendly and attentive—this place appears to be a very nice restaurant, which is why tonight was so disappointing.
While eating my Beef Nagamaki, I found a live roach in the dish. I showed the photo to a restaurant employee, expecting the situation to be handled with urgency and care. Unfortunately, the response fell far short. The only reconciliation offered was a $5 gift card, which felt dismissive given the seriousness of the issue.
Finding a live insect in prepared food raises major concerns about sanitary conditions, and the restaurant’s attempt to make it right did not match the gravity of the problem. What was once a go-to spot is now a place I’m hesitant to return to.
Customers beware.

WAZ
The krab rangoon was delicious. However, I wish it was not filled with artificial crab. I had the red dragon roll and was impressed how large it was. It was equally as impressive with how good it tasted. The BOGO happy hour draft beers, house wine, or well drinks was a nice bonus. I look forward to trying other rolls in the future.

Honestly a very pleasant experience. I have yet to dine in until now. I do service work and I have been in the kitchen of this restaurant and it is super clean and tidy. It has been on my list to dine in. Our server was incredible, young asian man, didn’t catch his name. He was timid and hospitable but was very alert. The building is open and not cramped. The development of this Bannerman area is great. Very walkable. You can grab a drink at a few different upscale spots before deciding what you want to eat. Really gives a downtown vibe. We had a 4 top. Pork tonkatsu, Duck Bao, Spider roll, and stir fry chicken pics below. Sides great as well.

Semi frequent customer. Heres a photo of my most recent visit i wanted to take because it was so pretty & yummy. I always have good experiences here. The sushi is fantastic and portions are good. I have always had attentive servers. I like the atmosphere, kind of quiet so i come here alone to enjoy myself. Awesome drinks as well.

My fiancé and I dine here regularly, however after our dining experience on 2/15/26 we will not be coming back here. We were sat almost immediately, but waited about 35 minutes to even be acknowledged by waitstaff. It took us asking two different hostesses for a waiter before one finally came over. After ordering or drinks and food, it took about another 45-50 minutes to receive all of our food. Mind you, multiple tables (at least4) that were sat after us had been taken care of immediately and received their food and drinks, AND got their checks and left before we did. Around the hour and a half mark we had waited for our waitress to show up again to ask if we were ready for the checks. It took another 40 minutes after that for her to take our check behind the bar. We again had to ask MULTIPLE waitstaff and hosts for our change. It took another waitress addressing OUR waitress about us not getting our check for her to finally come back. We asked for management and got told he was “busy packing doordash orders” which is a load of crap. As someone who works in the restaurant industry the customer service wasn’t great at all and we witnessed other tables going through the same thing. We had grace up until the point where it took almost another hour just for us to receive our change. Don’t waste your time on eating at Dao if it’s “moderately” busy. You’ll wait 2.5 hours for everything.

Came out for my husbands birthday with Gramps. Couldn’t be more pleased with the staff and service! The food was wonderful, fresh and beautifully plated. Our waitress Jada was very knowledgeable and helped me work around my lactose allergy perfectly! She was extremely attentive and brought our 4 courses that we ordered out with absolutely perfect grace and timing. The food was to die for! We had the Tuna tartar and the Tuna and avocado stack for starters, then for soup and salad we had Seaweed salad, Smoked Calamari salad, which had the most perfect dressing and the calamari was cooked perfectly. I actually tasted my husbands seaweed salad and for the first time in my whole life I actually liked it! Big ups for that! For the third course we ordered the miso and wonton soup which were also just fabulous! For entrees we had the Peking duck, Udon stir fry, and the tuna steak dinner. We each tried eachothers food and it was all just beyond great! So happy to have found yet another rare restaurant in Tallahassee that takes pride in what they put onto their plates 🙂 The atmosphere was clean, beautifully decorated and very welcoming! We will definitely be returning and recommending this place to everyone <3

Food is normally very good but my mother can’t do spicy or eat things that are hard to chew. We order the Coconut Curry chicken which is delicious but can be spicy and includes some veggie which is tough to chew. We’ve ordered it many times without vegetables and not spicy which is perfect. However, the last time we ordered (asking for no veggies or spice) it was spicy and came with veggies which she could not eat. So this time I clarified multiple times (4x) while ordering over the phone that we did not want it with vegetables or spicy, yet once again they didn’t do it…
I understand if it’s no longer possible but please tell me that over the phone so I can order something else for my elderly mom instead of finding out after picking it up that they didn’t listen (twice now) and she can’t eat her meal because it’s so spicy…

It was a perfect restaurant in the town. The color balance on the plates is perfect as much as the taste of their foods. Love the atmosphere and the location of the restaurant. The only thing, the service was slow because they had a lot customers even though it was weekday. We will have a group dinner this weekend approximately 16 people, hope they can serve better. I have no doubts about the quality of the food.✨

Came to Dao for lunch for the first time and really enjoyed our meal. I had the sweet and sour chicken bento and my daughter had the kids chicken nuggets. The portions were definitely worth it and service was friendly and attentive. It reminds me of Masa but if I’m in the area would definitely go again.
