A Thursday night. We ordered two 2 meat plates. One with ribs and brisket with corn and beans. The other with sausage and pulled pork with green beans and Mac & cheese. All of the meat was served cold or room temperature at best. The corn was a frozen. The beans had vinegar added for some reason. The pulled pork was OK. The sausage was a store bought brand. The mac and cheese was store bought and green beans were good but the toast was the best part of this meal. Even the soda was flat.

The service was confusing. 6 people behind the counter and one man working to get plates started. It was partially self serve to get the sides but with limited access so good luck with that. The people seemed friendly but we’re difficult to understand with a few wearing masks.

I ordered: 2 meat plate – sausage and brisket w/ okra, potato salad, and mac n cheese as sides.

The sausage was good at first bite and then chew and you start tasting gas instead of meat.

The brisket was bland and little chewy and was only like 5 pieces. The sauce saved it though – very good bbq sauce.

Potato salad was obnoxious sweet but edible if eaten with the meat.

Mac n cheese didn’t seem to contain ANY cheese – it was oil coated noodles????? like

Costumer service was good though from the two younger men in the back.

Worse bbq. Too much sauce. Burnt and no meat.

Lunch 3 meat plate.
Service was good.
Smoked sausage is about as good as it gets along with the chicken
The pork rib, on the other hand, was a little dry and chewy
Greens were bland
Broccoli casserole was very good.
Tables are sticky and need deep cleansing.
Overall, it was an average visit.

Should have read reviews before even considering this place. Lady was rude as soon as we called to place an order. Was rude when my bf got there saying “I don’t need to hear all that” with a gross attitude. Open my plate, there’s 1 sad little rib, forgot my fried okra and everything was moved around. This place is just sad.

Ok, this is going to be a kind of long review because I have a lot of history with this establishment. I moved here in the late 80s to go to college and one of the few places I could go out and eat at an affordable price and had GREAT food was Dan-Ken Trail. I mean, hell, military pilots from the entire southern part of this country made it a must stop on their training flights. The squadron patches on the walls of the restaurant are proof. The BBQ was awesome and the price was very affordable. I knew the original owner and he was a wonderful person. Fast forward to today and things are not the same. I know these are trying times and it’s hard to make money in the restaurant business but come on, you still need to give your customers their monies worth. Dan-Ken Trail has been under new management for a while and I really think the quality has dropped considerably. I used to eat here weekly with a buddy but he will no longer eat here because the food quality vs price is so bad. I had lunch one day with my grandson and he had a rib plate, that was very pricey by the way, and it was essentially rib bones with a little skin on them. I have refrained from writing a review because I knew the original owner and know the current owner. But tonight, kind of pushed me over the limit. I have refrained from eating at Dan-Ken Trail for all of the above reasons but I still get a hankering for that old BBQ that they used to produce. So tonight, the wife and I ordered takeout from them. I ordered a Ham po’boy with fries. I got a ham po’boy and that’s it. Now I know by its self-that’s not a big deal but when you add in all the other……kind of makes you want to cross Dan-Ken Trail off your list. I can tell you, its off mine. I hate it but have no choice. Things have gotten too expensive these days, you have to choose where to spend your money and would at least like to get what you pay for. By the way, the fries were marked on the order form….just not included with the order.

Just Left There. Even Tho The Service WAS Great, THE FOOD IS TRASH. THESE RIBS ARE HUGE! AND THERE’S NOWAY THEY WERE PUT ON A GRILL. THIS IS MORE LIKE BOIL MEAT WITH SOME LIQUID SMOKE. WASTE OF MONEY. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Been hard to find any decent BBQ in the Monroe area. Found this place just driving around and I’m not disappointed. The staff is very friendly and took pride in the food they were serving. Still isn’t Texas BBQ but pretty darn close lol.
