New Year’s Eve, and we had a 5 pm reservation. However we misjudged the time and out of respect for their business, called the restaurant to tell them we’d be 10 minutes late. The hostess should have said, “No problem, we’ll see you when you get here.” Instead, she said, “Well, the next seating at your table is at 6:45.”
We arrived at 5:10, and the hostess ignored my wife for a couple of minutes, looking at seating charts before finally sitting us at a table. We got a polite rush job from the server and the staff bussing our table! The staff was just doing what they were told, as the hostess and the chef watched our table so closely that we had bread, salad, entrees, desserts, teas and the check all done by 6:20!! No other table was being rushed out the door like we were. We didn’t create a scene (I wanted to!), we didn’t complain, and we didn’t take it out on our server by shorting her tip. $175 bill, $35 tip. If we were tipping the hostess who checked on us once, made no small talk and cleared plates off the table? She wouldn’t have gotten a nickel of my money!
There’s too many other great restaurants in the area for any establishment to want to risk losing a couple that’s very happy to spend their money on great food and service. But Daniel’s Bistro has lost us.
scrumptious, a word I seldom use. The chef sent us soup with bruschetta. I ordered the Tuna Tower appetizer, one of my favorites, and it came with a generous portion. Guests had the Ceaser salad enough to split. I was expecting everything to be a gourmet-sized portion, but to my surprise, it was most generous. I had the seafood Fra diavolo cooked to perfection, and the sauce was to die for. I tried to avoid bread, but I couldn’t leave the wonderful sauce behind. My wife and guest both ordered the Barramundi seafood dish and loved every bite; it was fantastic. We ended our dinner with a tableside Berries Flambe. What a way to go. Bring your favorite wine, and you are set for an evening you won’t be disappointed with, as well as the price. We can’t wait to come back. Great job Chef Bass. Five Stars.

Our server’s name was Casey. The only time that we interacted with her was in the beginning for the order and at the end for the bill. The gentlemen that brought out the bread, cleaned off the table, refilled the water, and brought out the food were much more pleasant and professional.
We expected more from our server at this type of high-end restaurant, as there is plenty of competition in the Point Pleasant Beach area. We’ll think twice before returning to the Bistro.
