Drinks: They didn’t have soft drinks available. We ordered watermelon and mango juice instead. The watermelon juice (without sugar) tasted like nothing, and the mango juice was made with frozen, sour mangoes. Meh.
Crab: We ordered soft-shell crab with the Dandito signature sauce. The dish came with fried soft-shell crabs. The crab itself was fine, but the much-hyped signature sauce was nothing special.
Food highlights: The nasi goreng and fried cumi-cumi (squid) were very good and highly recommended.
Note:
– There is an additional 3% charge for credit card payments.
– People smoke inside the restaurant, which really affected my appetite. Secondhand smoke while dining was VERY UNPLEASANT.
– The restaurant is also not very clean. I saw photos showing that a former president had dined here in the past, but considering that reputation, the experience was very disappointing
Legend in Balikpapan. We can take away as oleh-oleh as well. Great.
Side note: The toilet in this place is clean. There’s wifi, but you have to ask for it. There’s service charge at the end.
we’ve tried the kepiting jantan saus dandito and I’ll sadly announce that crab is not my cup of tea the meat is not as sweet as I imagined it to be, and it’s such a hassle to eat with just a little meat. however, the sauce is great and everyone happy with it ↕️
but everything else is super tasty for me! the udang saus asam manis was bomb and super clean! BUT THE FUYUNG HAI is such on another level, I’d say it’s the best fuyung hai that I’ve tried so far.
the waiting time is okay and the server were very helpful. the price was okay compared to the overall experience. I’ll recommend it to everyone that visit Balikpapan to try.
Once we arrived, we ordered 2 menus of crabs. Their speciality is the kepiting goreng bawang putih, so we ordered it together with kepiting lada hitam. I’d say they do better with the kepiting lada hitam (a bit spicy because of the blackpepper sauce)
The kepiting goreng bawang putih was actually good if only you eat it together with the sambal bawang (complimentary).
The crabs alone actually tasted plain in my opinion (bumbu nya kurang nyerap di kepiting) so you need to eat it with the complimentary ingredient to get the right taste (e.g. sambal, sauce).
I’m giving a 4 ⭐️ because I think this place is too hyped up ♀️ there is another place that sells crab and tastes better than here (karena bumbu nya nyerap ke dalam kepitingnya), but Dandito is still a good try and you still need to try their kepiting lada hitam
But if you are more into spicy food, then go for the kepiting goreng bawang putih + sambal bawang. Their sambal is great and super spicy ️ ️ ️

1. Make advance reservation to secure a table (t&c: DP 50% —> it seems much, but you can always buy 1-2 main menu and add more after you arrive )
2. You can order 1/2 portion for the kepiting jantan and kepiting soka
The soft shell crab is nice but the portion is too big for two to finish. The kangkong with prawn is so so, some prawns are not fresh.
The crab soup is the highlight TBH, it’s very smooth and tasty. I would just come again for the crab soup.
One complaint I must make is when I want to return an extra bottle of drinks (not open), they do not allowed. They claimed it’s already keyed into the system. I think they are just lazy and illiterate to get it removed.
