We really enjoyed our visit to Dan. We tried a little bit of everything. The chicken fried rice and pork pan seared dumpling was my favorite. The pickled cucumber and pork bun and steamed dumpling were also very good. Only one we would not order again was the crispy chicken dumpling. Just not our style.

The food here was delicious! We also appreciated that you can choose to get a full vs large size which was great for trying many different things.

We got chicken noodle soup, they let us get half, and veggie fried rice. Really good umami flavor and had a nice sesame taste in the soup. Very warm, healthy and comforting choice of restaurant.

This restaurant was a wonderful surprise. The Chinese food was incredibly delicious—fresh, healthy, and full of flavor without feeling heavy or overly greasy. Every dish tasted thoughtfully prepared with quality ingredients and well-balanced seasoning.

The service was just as impressive: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. You can tell they truly care about both the food and their guests.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for flavorful, wholesome Chinese food paired with excellent service. We’ll definitely be back!

Had dinner here during a long layover at LAX. Food was just OK. The first red flag was that none of the service nor kitchen staff were Chinese or even Asian. The second red flag was that none of the guests except our table were Chinese/Asians either. Ordered some fried rice, noodles, dumplings, Xiao Long baos, bok choy and mapo tofu to share. The pork chop fried rice was decent but no wok hei, chicken fried rice was kind if bland, ox tail noodles were extremely bland, bok choy was decent, chicken dan mein was OK, mapo tofu didn’t hit the spot. Service was decent and ambience was bright and modern like their name.

Absolutely delicious food! Servings are very generous and are family style. We went at a time when it really wasn’t very busy just yet prior to dinner. Our server was very helpful and accommodating. The menu was varied, and it was hard to choose amongst so many great options!
Our food came out very quickly, our waiter checked in on us regularly, and we had plenty of food left over to take home!
Parking was easy in the parking garage nearby, free parking if you’re there less than 2 hours!
It was only a short walk from the garage to the restaurant. The restaurant seating is fairly comfortable, my only concern with atmosphere is just how loud it is. The kitchen sounds reverberate throughout the dining area and just make it very distracting for me and this was the only reason I put the atmosphere at a lower scale. The place was very clean as was the bathroom!

Food: this place is definitely not authentic, very American spin on the food. I would skip the dan noodles, it was WAY too sweet and awful! Ma Po tofu was solid and the dumplings were mid

Service: Food comes out VERY slow, and one by one.

Atmosphere: is modern and very clean

Price: overpriced for mediocre food, understandable bc it’s downtown santa monica and touristy

This is a neat little place I found on Yelp when I was craving some Chinese food. Portions could be a little bit more generous, but it was very flavorful. I’m looking forward to trying other dishes. I tried the veggie dumplings because they were out of chicken. I don’t know what was in it, but it looked like minced kale? The soy sauce was ridiculously salty, it’s like drinking from the dead sea. Very fast and friendly service. Beautifully decorated inside.

Very tasty food, but the prices are a bit on the higher end. We shared food. We enjoyed the crispy pork dumplings, because I was curious. They were hard to eat, but tasty. It comes with a hoison dipping sauce. I will not order these again because they were not THAT DELICIOUS and the presentation was not appealing. The shrimp fried noodles were bland so we asked for condiments and were brought chili oil. The noodles were flavorful! We would order these again. Overall the food was okay.

Service is 5 plus star!!! Our server was very pleasant and prompt.

Clean modern interior. The metal chairs where we sat by the window were not that comfortable and there was not place to put my hat or purse.

There are 2 Gender Neutral bathrooms and I used both. One was dark and didn’t seem clean. I was reminded of the bathroom stall down at the beach. The only illumination came from the mirror on the wall. The second one had lights and and seemed cleaner. This one had a urinal in addition to a regular toilet.

We have been to the Dan Modern Chinese in Manhattan Beach and was very impressed there, so this is why we wanted to try the Santa Monica location.

I want to like this Santa Monica location too, but I will have think about it.
