If you’re vegan or gluten free this is a must stop when you visit Glacier National Park! We came here not knowing what to expect and could not have been happier. This was truly a culinary experience on par with any we’ve had in the US or otherwise.

The food is flavorful, very fresh (locally sourced from their own garden) and has great texture. The owners were so nice and you can sense their excitement and passion for their food.

Make sure to make room for dessert, the huckleberry cheesecake is AMAZING and the rhubarb ginger tart was delightful. Don’t make the mistake of skipping dessert! This is hands down the best dessert I’ve ever had (vegan OR non-vegan).

While staying overnight in Hungry Horse after visiting Glacier NP, this place was recommended to us. We ordered takeout since we were tired during the day. The overall inside of the atmosphere was very dainty and cute. The food was another level of amazing. I am a vegetarian and my biggest qualm with some of the places that I eat is that sometimes it’s too processed. Not this place. All the dishes we had tasted extremely fresh and all the dishes were extremely innovative.

Food Recommendations

Bob Marshall Buro (5/5): Everything about this dish was amazing. The protein and the “burrito” tasted amazing when combined with the sauce. The sauce had a bit of a kick to it, but the perfect amount of spice

Huckleberry Cream Tart (5/5): Perfect tart, not too sweet and perfectly delicious at the same time. The crust was extremely flakey which was perfect.

Bighorn (5/5): Extremely creative dish with the beet patty. The burger tasted perfect and I couldn’t taste much of the beet since it blended in perfected with the other ingredients

Meetballs and Mushroom soup: Tasted great and the soup tasted like a cream of mushroom soup.

We ate here while on a trip visiting Glacier National Park. It was closed the nights we got back from hiking, so we went for my birthday lunch and it was truly amazing! I got an avocado Caesar salad and mushroom soup and my husband got a beet burger. He said it was the best burger he’s ever had, including beef burgers. All in all It was hands down the best meal we had in recent memory! The staff was also super nice and welcoming. She helped us pick out some treats to bring home including a huckleberry tart, which looks like a little work of art.

Beyond delicious! Dan d”Lion is so yummy, but is also a place that will feel like a home cooked meal made by a loved one — it has an extra special magic. You won’t want to miss it! We went every day they were open during our visit to Glacier National Park and we cannot wait to visit them again next trip. After a couple days the owners felt like friends and family. It’s a restaurant you will feel so good about supporting, the owners are so kind and the food is that delicious! And nutritious! You’ll feel energized to get out for a hike in beautiful Glacier. Definitely get the lemon tart – one of the best treats we’ve ever had. Enjoy!

We stopped because of the 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ star reviews, but we will be back because of their desserts! Hands down THE best treatment of huckleberries in Flathead County. They embraced the tart berries, instead of covering them in sugars and married them perfectly in the tarts, lemonade and cheesecake! Dan d’Lion come to the Huckleberry Festival and show people how to truly love a huckleberry.
The rest of the food was tasty, but missing sides in our opinion. The flavors were spot on, but for a meal we like a “burger” and a side or a salad and a bread or something. That is our only suggestion to this five star little restaurant.

UPDATE: just went back to treat ourselves to a great vegan meal. I must say, it is even better this year! Great menu selections, nice variety.

I had the Bestie Beet Burger and it was SO good. Gear flavor. Their gluten free buns are the best. Light yet crispy on the outside. Nice sides to go with it. We also shared a dessert. Plenty for 2. See the photo. Also not too heavy, very creamy.

Also know that you can now park behind the building. Just have to go past it ( on your right) and turn on the first street and then right again to park there. END OF UPDATE

Wow, I never thought that I would see a vegan restaurant here. It was great to look at the menu and realize that I could eat anything on it. Gluten free crusts and bread are an added plus. You can tell that the owners understand about healthy eating.
I am sure that this place is not for everyone, as lots of people expect everything to taste like meat and butter. The taste is different than the standard American diet, but it is very flavorful and the texture is great.
Definitely worth the short drive out to Hungry Horse to have a meal.
It can be hard to spot, so don’t drive by.

I was looking for vegan options near glacier and usually am hesitant to try entirely gluten-free restaurants, but everything about this place was amazing. The flavors were wonderful, and the food tasted great and was so filling. I really don’t think there’s anything bad on the menu. I would recommend for anyone to try this place – even if you’re not vegan/gluten free. The workers we got to speak with were so welcoming and kind too 🙂

We were so excited to find a vegan restaurant near West Glacier and Dan d’Lion did not disappoint. We were exhausted and hungry after a long day of exploring the park, and this place was so warm and inviting and our family of 5 felt so comfortable coming in and having a seat. The plant-based pepperoni, mushrooms soup, and kids’ meatball skewers were all a hit with our clan. Menu is gluten-free as well, so a great option for those with food allergies. The staff (and I assume owners) were so kind and hard-working, and we are happy to recommend their restaurant to others.

Plant Based Perfection! Wow! This place was incredible and the highlight of our trip to Glacier. Although listed as vegetarian the entire menu was vegan (and also gf). This is not your standard vegan food. The love and creativity put in to the menu was remarkable – and delicious. Which makes sense, once you meet the owners. This is their passion project and you can feel and taste it. They have items ready to go, as well as dine in (and the food comes out fast). Great for having a cozy meal in the restaurant, or taking lunch to go on the trail. We visited each day they were open (it’s that good) and loved everything! Also, this is not vegan junk food. This is plant based, with whole ingredients, that will fill you up and feeling good – fueled for the next hike ! Many people come to Glacier because they love nature and the preservation of land and wildlife. They are environmentally minded, and now have a way to live that out while they eat! This place is a win for health, our planet, and the animals. Although we live thousands of miles away, we’re already dreaming of our next trip back to Dan D’lion and it makes me so happy this place, and people, exist in the world. We visited just days after they opened and they were already knocking it out of the park! I have no doubt they will be hugely successful, opening hearts and minds along the way through some of the best, healthful food I’ve ever had. Pics don’t do it justice!

Recommend? Yes.

This surprising vegan restaurant in Hungry Horse was such a wonderful gift. It’s on the way from Whitefish to West Glacier. I came on a day that didn’t have any pastries left because they had a big catering order, sad me.

I got a side of the pesto salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and smoked black bean burger.

I’m typically not a fan of a pasta salad, but this one definitely surprised me. It was so bright with tons of veggies.

The meatballs in me spaghetti was a bit extra toasted, but that’s alright. I can’t describe the flavors here, but I think the best word is “fresh”. There’s something unfamiliar about the sauce though… maybe because it didn’t taste like it came out of a jar? Lol.

The smoke black bean burger I found to be a bit on the sweet side however that is to be expected considering there is a BBQ sauce.

Overall, I’m so glad that this restaurant exists and it has definitely saved me on my short visit. I would definitely come back next time I’m in Whitefish.
