After hearing about this place for so many years that it is so good. We finally stopped in. To our surprise we were very disappointed. The server was great and very friendly. However the food was not worth the price.this is how the one piece chicken is served. The salad was over dressed and very plain The best part for me was the crackers and butter. Also the table cloth was stained, maybe my expectations were too high for what we paid for. This was a once and done for our family.

The Dam Site Inn located in Brutus Michigan (20 minutes away from Mackinaw City) is fantastic. It wasn’t just a meal, it was an experience. They have a pan fried chicken dinner that reminds me of my Great Grandma’s kitchen. Think Frankenmuth, Michigan without the snobbery and “too peoply” atmosphere. The service is excellent. Our waiter was Tom. He’s very good at making people feel comfortable.

The atmosphere here is an upscale house feel. Warm and inviting on the inside. However since they removed the Dam years ago the outside view is a little, blah.

We ordered the all you can eat Pan Fried Chicken Dinner ($30). This consists of a Salad or Cole slaw, Assorted crackers with butter, Buttermilk biscuits with honey, Buttered Noodles, Buttered Peas, Creamy whipped potatoes, Golden chicken gravy, and of course platter of chicken. Lets start with this warning there is a lot of butter on everything. Lets now go with the positives: the Salad was excellent and the French dressing was perfect. The mashed potatoes were extraordinary, in fact my favorite thing. The noodles were good. The biscuits were good and honey was excellent, I would have preferred yeast rolls, but still above average. Now for the bad: The Chicken was ehh. Supposedly the best chicken in Northern Michigan and made a bunch of lists. However, it was kinda dry and the coating was bland. I’ve had some truly delicious fried chicken in Frankenmuth and South Haven and this chicken doesn’t come even remotely close. Also the crackers and butter is just strange. I don’t like peas so I have no opinion on them. The person I was with had an even lesser opinion of the meal. The mashed potatoes and salad should not be the best part of the meal. That all being said the value was excellent.

The service was very friendly and happy, just not efficient. The waitress kept forgetting things and maybe waitressing isn’t for her. She was very pleasant though.

Overall a 3 star review. Would I return? No! Not worth the drive for average chicken.

Love love LOVE this place! A cozy time warp that gives you an immediate mid century hug when you walk in. The atmosphere is just wonderful and the attention to detail and showcase of antiques is impressive. Delicious chicken dinners with creative relishes and out of this world homemade buttered noodles. Just a charming place. Can’t wait to come back!

Located in Pellston, Mi. This “iconic restaurant “ is well known for its for its excellent chicken dinner! From “all you can eat, or if you prefer, choose from their other foods they have to offer. (Check their hours, as they close for the winter season). From a clothed table, waiters/waitresses and some of the fixtures are the original from the 60’s. Check out the separate bar. You’ll be back in time. Also this will be the best chicken dinner you ever had! Homemade noodles, gravy, real mashed potatoes , salads, vegetables, rolls. You will not go away hungry! Drinks/ wines available, if you wish. I highly recommend this iconic restaurant all staff was helpful, courteous, which is another great factor! If you visit Michigan, make sure this is a “must stop and eat at this restaurant!”

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience. Despite paying for the all-you-can-eat option, I was rushed by the server and only received one plate of food before being pushed out. I paid over $100 for two people and barely got $10 worth of food. I used to really enjoy this place, but the service was unacceptable this time. On top of that, I was only offered one glass of water and one Captain and Coke. This is not the experience I paid for or expected.

We have a tradition to visit Dam Site Inn every year as a family. The family style chicken is the best, including all the sides that come with it (the egg noodles are a favorite for us).

My husband started coming here when he was 8 years old (now in his 60’s) and it’s been a staple restaurant in our family. I remember dressing my kids up for dinner at the Dam Site Inn . The place is exactly the same and we love that. A piece of history and heaven. The FOOD and service is AMAZING.

So disappointed in their new policies. There were four of us at dinner, one ordered fish, one ordered four piece chicken dinner and the other two wanted to order all you can eat chicken dinners. We were told either everyone at the table order the all you can eat dinner or we could not get it. So we just ordered the four piece chicken dinner and we were told the sides were serve family style. The dinner came the family style sides were in small bowls not even enough potatoes to pass around to everyone. I asked the server for a refill on the potatoes and he told me This is not an all you can eat. and it will cost five dollars more for a side of mashed potatoes. At that point, I was so disappointed in the Dam Sites policies charging extra for all dark meat, charging extra for a white meat. Then I asked for a refill on my lemonade and they told me that that was a crafted lemonade, and it would cost more. I have been going there for over a decade multiple times a year and have never been treated the way we were at this time. They lost our business. We’re good.
