We were staying in Niobrara state park and wanted to check out the surrounding areas (as well as other state parks or WMAs). Well one thing led to another and we were close by, checked the reviews, and though, eh, why not, let’s stop and try it. Well, I’m glad we did. It was the last day of the open season for them and we had the place to ourselves. Ordered tons of great food, the place is awesome and not a cookie cutter franchise style restaurant, and the staff were awesome! What we know for sure is that next time we’re back this direction for any camping or outdoor excursions, we will absolutely be stopping here and next time we’re getting ice cream too!

This is a very nice place to go on nice days. They do have indoor seating, but most outside. We had the kids burger and the walleye baskets. The fries and fish were great! They were not saturated in oil at all. Very crisp and tasty. Tasted like it was fresh oil or they keep the oil clean! Very important! Otherwise, it effects the taste. It’s a unique atmosphere with corn hole games and many different types of tables to sit at some with umbrellas. There is a “canoe” bar (upside down canoe) there for adult beverages. They also have an ice cream place there. It is seasonal and definitely worth checking out! Parking could be a little tight if it’s really busy.

This was a really fun setting with some unique food items. It’s located close to Gavin’s Point Dam so a little off the beaten path unless you know it’s there. It offers walk-up ordering, plenty of places to sit to include a small inside air-conditioned dining area, and some outdoor games such as cornhole. Staff was very friendly, brought the family and everyone had a good time. Really glad we stopped!

Perch, cod, walleye and catfish are all options. Plus Buffalo and Elk burgers and much more. If you order the entree/main item as a basket it comes with Texas Toast, cole slaw and french fries AND a drink. The meal was filling and delicious. Both times Ive eaten there I couldn’t finish my fries because I was so full. This place has a variety of options for dipping your fish in and all are nicely chilled in a cooler until you pour a portion into a small container to take back to your table. There is limited indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating. The configuration of the place is unique with mostly outdoor seating (and an umbrella at many tables) and very cool in my opinion. Im told the place was created to be pet friendly and family friendly. I think they succeeded! I’d highly recommend this place to anyone but keep in mind they are only open from sometime in May till sometime in October….and dont forget to order some ice cream from the building right beside where you order your food!

A friend and I went here for lunch while we were camping nearby. It was fun and the food was great. We both had the walleye basket. It came with coleslaw, Texas toast, and some of the best french fries I’ve ever eaten. The walleye was perfectly fried. They play old rock music and it’s fun to sit outside on their patio, eating their delicious food, and enjoying the day. There’s also an ice cream shop, but we didn’t get ice cream because the lunch portions were very generous.

SUPER cute atmosphere! I love how they call your name over the intercom and say “your dam food is ready” and then when you pick it up they say “enjoy your dam food.” (I get a kick out of the little things.) Food was good and there was a nice selection, including many appetizer choices. The décor was super cute and bar area was fun. They have lots of umbrellas to stay out of the sun. Adult bean bag/ corn hole game and even a child size one. Can also play ring toss. Cozy little sitting areas, public restrooms and a little store/ shop. This place was WAY bigger and nicer than I expected for a food truck. It was much more like an outdoor restaurant. They do have indoor seating too if you prefer that. Most meals were around $16.50. I’ll definitely be going again and telling others to check it out too! #hiddengem

Love this place. Great location, and we ride to Yankton with this place as a destination. The food portions are huge, and the walleye is some of the best I have had in the area. Like sitting outside even when it’s hot. The flies are a pain, but you are outside, so get used to it. We will be back again.

After several recommendations from friends, we made it to the Dam Fish Shack on a wonderful warm sunny day. We enjoyed the cold beer and tasty drinks until our “Dam” order was up. As first time patrons we ordered Walleye baskets and several sides for the table. The sides were pricey but they can feed an army. We shared amongst the table and still had way to much food left over. So we over ordered not knowing how big the basket and sides were. All in all it was great tasting food at a great value. As was mentioned several times at the table, The Dam Fish Shack is off-the-hook and definitely worth going out of your way to visit and enjoy.

The Dam Fish Shack was stop number 72 on our 2024 Nebraska Passport journey. We had watched a few videos on Facebook and heard great things from other passporters about this stop, so we were eager to experience it ourselves. It did not disappoint! We need one of these in Omaha!
