Reviews
Food quality and safety are serious concerns. Raw or undercooked food has been served on multiple occasions, which is not a minor issue but a health risk. When students joke that getting sick from campus food is normal, it reflects a troubling reputation that no dining service should have.
The food is also frequently bland, repetitive, and poorly prepared, with small portions and low-quality ingredients. Many students avoid Dalton altogether unless they have no other option.
What makes this especially frustrating is the noticeable improvement during campus tours. The food suddenly looks better, tastes better, and is cooked properly, proving Dalton can do better but chooses not to for its current students. This inconsistency shows a lack of respect for the students who already attend.
Overall, Dalton fails to provide the consistent, safe, and quality dining experience students deserve, and until real improvements are made, its poor reputation is justified
One of the biggest issues is food quality and safety. I have personally seen raw or undercooked food served multiple times, not just once. This is not a small mistake. It is a serious health concern. When students joke that you have to get sick at least once while attending this school, it stops being funny and starts being alarming. No student should feel like getting sick from campus food is a rite of passage. That alone says a lot about the reputation Dalton has earned among students.
On top of that, the food itself is often bland, poorly prepared, or repetitive. Portions feel skimpy, ingredients seem low quality, and meals often look like the bare minimum effort was put into them. It genuinely feels like the dining service is cheaping students out, despite the high cost of meal plans. Many students end up avoiding Dalton altogether or eating there only when they have no other option.
What makes this even more frustrating is the obvious difference in effort when campus tours are happening. Suddenly, the food improves. There is more variety, things are cooked properly, and everything looks more presentable. It is clear they can do better. They just choose not to when it is only students around. It sends the message that impressing potential students matters more than taking care of the ones already here. Even then, the food still is not impressive enough to justify the inconsistency.
Overall, the Dalton kitchen feels like a letdown in terms of quality, safety, and respect for students. Students deserve consistently good, properly cooked meals, not food that is rushed, unsafe, or only decent when tours are watching. Until there is real accountability and improvement, Dalton will continue to have a bad reputation for a reason.
So I appreciate it 🙂
Same vegetables…alot of stuff be dried out there is no stirrin of things to make sure it LOOKS fresh. Salad bar always looks good and fresh! Guy making omelettes does a great job!! He makes good omelettes go get you one! The grill side…wings are iffy…usually dry and overcooked. Good gluten free options but usually same thing or just not appetizing at all. Soups are pretty good…beef vegetable and chicken and dumplings was the better options. Breakfast is good! Same thing daily but they switch up the protein and they do sweet potato totts and regular totts and will do a quiche (baked eggs) which doesnt hold very well. Good selection of salad dressings and sandwich fixins.
The main entrees could be better whilst taking in consideration food becoming and looking dry and unappetizing.
I did 4 stars on food because it is becoming more SEASONED..some heavy on salt but for most part flavor profile is getting better…especially on the entree side…i went in today and they had spanish theme…carnitas…taco beef..black and pinto beans…all seasoned very well!! The salad bar always looks good with fresh greens n fixins…the brocc cheddar soup is a hit!!!
Went in a couple days ago they had baked talapia…i usually dont eat farm raised fish but it was seasoned good and not dry!!!
Ill be back with another review on diff foods…you can also follow me on tiktok to see the food ..

PROS:
+The staff are wonderful!
+It’s spacious and has plenty of seating!
+ It’s very clean
+ There’s a ton of choices of different types (salad/cold bar, savory food, dessert, etc), and a MASSIVE selection of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free food (and combinations of said vegan/vegetarian/gluten free food) which is awesome!!
+Great blend of healthy and comfort foods
+ Pesto mozzarella pizza is SO. GOOD.
+ They have food labels! With macronutrient information!
+ Sweet potato fries every time I’ve been there!
+ Very smart design choices of hot plates/shallow food pans/distance and plastic shields between food and customer
CONS:
-NOT ENOUGH TRASH CANS (once I went there was only one, the second time there were only two with NO BAGS in them)
– closes at 230p?
– EXPENSIVE
– some of the food is really good but some of it is REALLY not great due to an EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SEASONING. I’ve encountered zucchini saltier than pickled brine, multiple dishes with so much black pepper in them that my eyes watered, and the saddest, limpest, most overcooked asparagus I’ve ever seen
