Most delicious and authentic Indian food in Syracuse! Was seated very quickly but would recommend reservation to not get a slightly awkward table (in front of the stairs). Huge portions, spent ~$115 including tips for 2 people, with drinks and samosa appetizer, and extra naan to go. But had plenty leftovers for 2 more meals! Very good spice level. We got the ghee roast pulao with chicken bone in, lamb kebab masala, garlic and cheese naan, mango and jaljeera martini in a huge glass and a blood and beach. Everything delicious, amazing service even though restaurant was pretty full and they had a big party table. Will come back with friends

Absolutely loved my experience here! I had the ghee podi dosa, and it was so yum—crispy, flavorful, and they were kind enough to modify it exactly as we suggested, which made it even better. The staff is extremely good, very friendly, and welcoming. The host was especially sweet and made us feel comfortable right from the start. Definitely a place I’d love to visit again for authentic South Indian food

Absolutely delish, we tried the tandoori wings, lamb kebab masala, goat rohanjosh and garlic naan. Everything was incredibly flavorful, the service was fantastic, the people were so kind to us even though we came in shortly before closing. The venue is pretty and the atmosphere was relaxing. I’m leaving happy and will be back!

What an amazing way to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family! The service was wonderful, they guided through a very extensive menu of foods and Indian cocktails all made with fresh ingredients and homemade syrups. The food was delicious and plentiful with enough for another meal! Downtown revival!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️✅

Dakshin is my go-to Indian restaurant for authentic and delicious Indian food. Every item on the menu is fantastic, you can’t go wrong with anything. Make sure to pair your entree with some Naan!

This was our first time at Dakshin and it was a very pleasant experience. We were seated right away and given menus to browse. It did take a little bit of time for water to arrive and order drinks but nothing crazy. After ordering drinks,an appetizer and 2 entrees, all of the food came out in a timely fashion and everything was absolutely delicious. The interior is super cute and very well decorated too. It felt very relaxing and easy to talk. I would highly recommend Dakshin to anyone and we will definitely be back.

Came here on a chilly Friday and were greeted right away. Fresh crackers were set down with a chutney and we ordered tea and vegan samosas. The samosas were fried but not greasy and they were well seasoned. For entrees we had tadka dal spicy and a medium chana masala. The flavors were balanced, leaving just the right amount of heat at the back of the throat. The restaurant is clean, cozy, and staffed with a highly attentive group of servers. Great for vegans with a separate vegan section and a long cocktail list.

Dakshin Restaurant, Syracuse never disappoints! The ghee roast and mutton biryani are absolute favorites—rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every chicken starter and veg starter we tried was fantastic, full of authentic taste and beautifully presented.
A special shout-out to Divya, who always takes great care of our table and gives the best suggestions—her service truly elevates the whole experience. The pleasant ambiance, nice music, and warm atmosphere make it a perfect place to enjoy a relaxed and delicious meal.
Highly recommended for anyone craving amazing South Indian food in Syracuse!

We really wanted to love this place
Dakshin started out strong, but recent orders were a letdown. After I shared feedback, the owner actually asked us to come in and give them a another chance. We decided to go there for date night this week and don’t think we are going back.
The Vibe: The space is okay, but feels a bit artificial, like they forced a bunch of props and paintings just to make it look “Indian”.
The Food: The menu is very confused (a “South” Indian place serving mostly North Indian food?), and the execution was plain lazy
We ordered:
• Karvepaku Chicken: Mostly batter, likely fried hours earlier. Some pieces were rock-hard and not teeth friendly.
• Chicken Tikka Malai: An absolute abomination. Dry chicken breast served with…”Boom Boom Sauce”? Seriously?
• Ghee Roast Pulao: Just chicken curry on top of white rice. It wasn’t even proportional.
The Service: We had to work hard just to get attention. When I tried to give feedback to the manager, she seemed totally disinterested and then disappeared. We ended up walking to the counter just to pay so we could leave.
Butter Naan: Dry and probably microwaved. Still don’t know why it was brought out with the appetizer.
Lassi: was good and they did accommodate our request to leave out the mango powder.
It’s sad to see a place with such potential turn into a lazy, shortcut-filled operation. I did ask to.speak to the owner but she is apparently traveling abroad.
Our quest for good South Indian food in Syracuse continues.
Dakshin literally means South and I am from South India.

We visited this restaurant on Friday and were quite disappointed overall. The service started off poorly — it took nearly 10 minutes before anyone even brought water to our table.

We ordered Puthi Paal, which should traditionally have five different ingredients and a nice mix of flavors, but what we got tasted like plain milk with sugar. There was no hint of jaggery or other expected ingredients, making it quite bland.

For the main course, we tried the Malai Kofta and Matar Paneer. The kofta were decent, but the overall flavor was not very authentic. The Matar Paneer was especially underwhelming — it seemed to be made with frozen peas and lacked taste or freshness.

On the positive side, the naan and kulcha were nicely done — slightly charcoal-burnt and authentic in texture. The ambience of the restaurant was pleasant, but considering the quality and taste of the food, the prices felt a bit high.

Overall, Dakshin has potential with its ambience and bread items, but the food and service need serious improvement to match the expectations for the price and cuisine.
