August 2023 – Perfect day to bring a butterscotch dipped vanilla soft cone and medium chocolate shake to family members.

The ice cream options are so wide here I would get one all the time if I didn’t have to be weight conscious. Hard enough as it is without dessert…but pulling in here August 2022 I bought a chocolate dipped vanilla soft ice cream cone and large chocolate shake for family members. They said each one was incredible.

I’ve always said the place that does the most business in Winchester, CT is the Dairy Queen. There are many good places to eat here, like Rowley’s, The Tributary, Kent Pizza, Monaco’s Ristorante, (all reviewed) and others, but the winner seems to be the DQ. Even this April evening, forty degrees, as spring weather vacillates from warm to cold, the line was long to wait your turn for ice cream. Not a dessert person, I pulled over to get a hot fudge sundae for my mother, and couldn’t resist getting something for myself…the cherry red dipped cone with the classic vanilla soft serve ice cream. Sublime experience passing the cone back and forth with my partner. If you want nuts with the hot fudge sundae, you have to ask for them. You can choose pecans or peanuts. Feedback was there were a lot of pecans. Nice.

They have XL Blizzards unlike some of the newer locations around CT, truly the DQ GOAT. I’ve looked at the negative reviews and don’t agree with any of them, there is a reason there are often long lines… because its worth the wait.

If I were Carm, I would spend some time having a serious talk with some of my employees. If a business advertises open until 9, it means exactly that. Not lights off at 8:50 and closed at 8:55. On Friday night I watched 6 potential customers from 3 respective groups all walk up to the window before 9 o’clock just so that they could be turned around due to the window being shut early. One of these customers was clearly a working mother that was trying to get something for her 2 young boys. I hope that this was just a poorly timed decision by these employees and not instructions from management. I have never received anything but the best service from Carm and his family and other employees like Mikey B. These people care about the product they put out and providing the best service. Winsted is a dying town. If you are going to start closing earlier just because a couple of teen employees are trying to race home or out to parties, then it would be putting even a further damper on town. If these kids worked in a real sit-down restaurant, they wouldn’t make it a week. A closing time on the wall does not mean that you are leaving at that time. I’m sure that night time cleaning duties are definitely not being done as well as they should be when you are doing them while still serving customers.

I’ve visited here and I always leave here satisfied. The ice cream are always mouth watery & I always try to savor every bite because of how good it is. The co workers are always polite, always makes sure I, as a customers, am satisfied before i leave. Though I won’t sugar coat anything, the lines can be very long and the wait can vary but once you get your ice cream, that wait is definitely worth it

I have passed by for years, never having the time to stop for a treat. Today, I was able to enjoy an ice cream cone dipped in chocolate. It was good, the right amount of everything served quickly and with great customer service. My only disappointment came from this location only having ice cream treats, not a burger/fries combination that I have found at other locations.

We brought our entire girls softball team for an ice cream treat. The service was friendly, and fast. Their soft serve cones and bowls of ice cream with sprinkles really hit the spot.
I’d reccomend them for your next ice cream fix.
Enjoy!

Right down the street from my house, this is my go to ice cream joint. Of course they have all the classics from blizzards to dilly bars and my “usual” the peanut buster parfait! My son likes trying the seasonal/promotional flavors and the better half likes to mix n’ match but it’s always a great treat!
