Great experience stopping in for lunch on Friday. Food was brought out fresh and hot. Dining room was clean. Tasha ensured our order was accurate, I point this out because I ordered a seasonal “shake” flavor, but as a malt, which apparently didn’t have a malt option for entering this flavor into the computer but Tasha took care to make sure it was correct. I appreciated the good and friendly service.

We love Dairy Queen & the employees are always great at this location! However, the reason for not giving 5 stars is due to how disappointing it is that NONE of the Ames locations accept orders through the app which means you can’t use or earn any rewards points at any DQ’s in town! So we’re a lot more likely to visit DQ when we’re down in Ankeny or Des Moines instead of going to the ones in Ames.

I do have to say, the inside of the place looks clean.

That’s the only thing good about this DQ location.

I tried this location last year and received my soggy chicken strips that melted into the styrofoam, fries, and bread (it’s supposed to be toast, but here it’s soft bread)… and decided I shouldn’t go back.

Fast forward a year later and I should’ve listened to my advice. Food is still served in styrofoam (thankfully at least with paper put down so your strips don’t melt into it), the bread was still bread (try toasting it properly please, it should be easy to tell if bread is toasted), and the fries were ok this time.

Won’t be back! I miss my franchise location back home.

It’s odd how much DQ’s vary by location, chicken strip breading, packaging, and condiments.

Terrible service, manners, food, and very slow. We found a hair coming out of our tender. The tenders are very flat and barely have any chicken in them. They forgot our drinks so we had to come back for them. Never again will I go here, I definitely do not recommend.

Small sized cone was half the size of the one on display, ordered a
medium sized blizzard and they gave us a small. When I mentioned the error they dumped the small into the medium cup, added some ice cream and re-blended it at which time it was half melted. I’d be fine with all of this had it not been over $10 for just these 2 items. Value for the money just isn’t there.

My family got 3 blizzards. 1 was completely melted. When I asked why, they said “It’s because of the ingredients.” Blizzard 2 had hair in it. I was handed a whole wad of napkins with the melted blizzard, only to find a live bug on them! I killed the bug before getting a picture. I would give 0 stars, if that was an option.

First off. Manners were horrible. Nobody was welcoming and they are so rude. Don’t think I saw one person smile. The slowest service ever. My friend found a hair in her blizzard after remaking my friends blizzard THREE TIMES cause they couldn’t get it right. which seems like a common thing in the reviews and noticed they don’t have hair nets on. GROSS… asked a bunch of questions about the menu and the response we got was a I DONT KNOW. You should know the menu. Also, they told us they just want to get people out and we’re going to lock the door if we didn’t leave. If I could I would rate it a 0 review. Never go to the Dairy Queen in Ames!

The lady that was taking orders threw window drive up she was so rude, crud 0 manners prices way to much 17.50 for hamburger large fries and large malt but was milk shake. But 17.50 gave me a blank recipe she’s ripping of the ower and costumers. Told her I won’t be back she turned yelling something about me. Watch your money people better off go some we’re else.

You can’t use tap to pay, mobile order or use rewards from the DQ app. In a college town, this seems laughable. The clearly out of touch franchisees need to realize they’re literally losing lots of business because of this.
Also the place just feels grimy and depressing.
