I will drive across the city and cross that bridge just to visit the pinnacle Dairy Queen in the Salem area. The service is always prompt and friendly. The food is always hot and fresh. They have the best chicken strips- perfectly cooked, even good as leftovers! They put lids on their blizzards for you in the drive thru. This location is the best.

We don’t come here often, but when we do, it’s mostly for two reasons: Ice cream and their $8 meal deals. We had a $3 off deal for their 6 pc chicken strip basket with toast and a drink, so I got that. It was $13 something before the discount. The chicken strips were very good as always. However, the size of the chicken strips are so inconsistent, with some being so small you wonder how it even qualifies as a chicken strip. The toast, which I really like when it’s cooked right, tasted like dried out buttered bread. But the biggest issue is their fries. They are always undercooked, causing them to make my ‘worst fast food fries’ list. Now if you are lucky enough to get them to actually double fry them when you request it, they are really good. But that rarely happens. A simple fix of changing the timer on their fries to cook them a little longer would completely change this issue. But unfortunately, they are still serving undercooked fries after all these years, which is why we rarely eat there. My 9 yr old son refuses to eat their fries. That says everything.
If you’re wanting some delicious ice cream, really good onion rings, or yummy chicken strips, I highly recommend them. But I do not recommend their fries at all and would recommend getting onion rings as a side choice instead. if you do get fries, I would ask for them extra crispy. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn’t.
They have top-notch ice cream and desserts.
I would give them 3.5 stars. This rating is based off of today’s experience only. Without the delicious ice cream we had and the value of their $8 meal deals, this rating would have been a 2.5 stars.

The best Dairy Queen in Salem. Go early in the morning and you are set!
However, y’all did me dirty today by refrying the chicken when I knew it sat in the drawer for a bit. The mealy, powdery chicken with the grainy gravy is not normally up to Chris’ standards, and the fries were soggy. First time though and I know you can do better and will next time

Food was a bit hot, freshly cooked but really good after traveling to two gas stations thinking we could grab something cheap. But happy to have a the chicken strip basket with country gravy and cheese curds, which filled me up.I almost couldn’t finish it all.

Would have been a five-star but there was only me and one other table with people on it in the place and every table was dirty almost. I know it might be close to closing time but make sure wonder if it’s dirty out here. Watch the kitchen look like? Ranch sauce was excellent, a lot of the dairy Queens have been watering that down lately but not here. Staff was friendly, courteous, kind all that kind of stuff only complained is the dining room was way too dirty. Let’s hope I can update this in a week or two when I go back.

Wow! I never thought I would wait 30 mins for an over priced blizzard. Clearly the staff here needs training badly. The sad part about it, is the line was only about 4 cars long. I literally had to get out of the drive through and go inside after waiting in my car for 20 mins.

Okay first, I’d like to say that I am a customer of many Dairy Queens, due to commuting 38 miles each work day. With that said, I will say this is by far the worst quality wise Dairy Queen I go to. I am a Westy(resident of West Salem) and rarely go to this Dairy Queen which is not more than 6 mins drive from my house; this is due to the sub par quality and customer service I have received at this Dairy Queen. I have two other Dairy Queens within easy grasp within daily commute and I would much rather spend my hard earned dollars there, as opposed to this local Diary Queen close to home. My issue is this, I am a patron of the Blizzard variety, Ice Cream is why folks go to Dairy Queen…..normal folks in the know are not going for the Fries or Burgers though they aren’t bad on occasion; if you want a semi fast and good burger in West Salem, you’re going to Nancy’s or Carl’s Juniors( all within a two minute drive or less of this location), I say this because Dairy Queen is literally in the title of the restaurant, Dairy Queen….so not make Dairy a frigg’n priority???
Every time I go to this Diary Queen; which is rare due to the sub par quality(this trip is the first in months) my blizzard is milk shake thickness. The kid at the window that obviously didn’t give a rat’s behind about his job, tipped my blizzard upside down to show me the quality and thickness was tip top magoo; however once he handed it to me and I begun to drive away, I noticed that my blizzard had a lid on it, with the spoon sticking out from the standard issue soda pop lid, which was hiding the fact that my entire Dang blizzard was not actually tipped upside down and tested as properly, and half melted as it was handed to me. This is the same issue time and again with this location, however this is the first time I’ve been faked out with the lid being on the Blizzard. Why in God’s name would you even bother to tip the Blizzard upside down to show me how frigg’n thick it is if you had a lid on it??? That doesn’t make any dang sense. It’s a fake out, an obvious lie or ploy to get me to leave with a milk shake quality blizzard. If I wanted a milk shake I’d have ordered milk shake, I ordered a dang blizzard and the ice cream was so warm (ambient temp outside was 80 degrees) that it could barely be called even a milk shake. The worst part is this is the same thing that happens each time I attempt to be a patron of this establishment, and each time I decide to go. I knew I was going to get a sub par quality Blizzard and that’s exactly what I got, even after giving them another chance. What in the heck is going on?? This is Dairy Queen, not Fry Queen(I got fries they weren’t bad, very hot and freshly made). This specific location charges us West Salem Patrons more than any of the other Dairy Queen locations within my daily work commute; a Blizzard here is $7.99 for a Large Blizzard, almost $8 dollars!!!!! For a dang Blizzard…..Other locations I attend is $5.99 or $6.79…..so what is going on with the price and further more, the than dang quality????!!!! I can honestly tell you that it’ll be another few months before I give this place a try again–most likely only going here again due to needing a quick blizzard fix over a weekend and not being mid commute; but I can honestly say that if this location pulled it’s head out of its rear and for one, made Blizzards cold and frozen as they should be, and two didn’t have a restaurant full of children working that barely gave a crap, they be making way more money hand over fist. If you’re the owner or manager reading this, imagine if you had 20% more care and quality in your restaurant, you’d probably get 20% more regularly returning patrons, which is 20% more profit. Boom!!!enough said. Make me some good a$$ Blizzards and I’d be here twice a week, but for now I’ll show up when I have to because the wife needs a treat on the way back from the dog park, and I didn’t feel like another Carl’s Juniors Milk shake. This blizzard went into the freezer for two hours before I was able to enjoy it due to its thickness.

I have to say it was a very nice experience. Just hearing the workers talking to the other costumers with respect while I was sitting here was A treat in itself. The example of great costumer service was something I haven’t seen in A long time. To be honest I can’t say the same thing about other DQ’s I’ve visited. Corporate should be impressed. I plan on visiting this location more often thank you
