Cannot wait to be back! I had something easy and simple to warm the soul. I took mine to go, mind you..there are only two tables in this restaurant and the rest is outside seating. I tried the garlic cheese nann and a masala Chai tea. Oh my goodness. Soo good. I will definitely be back to try more dishes. The staff were friendly and the place was clean.

Don’t come here expecting a pleasant dining experience. The inside seating was two tables in a freezing cold room, luckily we brought our winter jackets and were seated right away. The place appeared dirty and lacked any aesthetic appeal. The menu was rather extensive so we asked for a few minutes to look it over, but it was another 15 minutes before the server returned, as they obviously prioritize to-go orders above their dining customers. If you are a masochist, I recommend the Chicken Vindaloo, which lacked any finesse of flavor but enough spice to have you producing phlegm for hours after — no doubt the diarrhea will follow. Or if you have health conditions which require low sodium, this would be an ideal place to have your final meal. And the Desi Salad was laughably bad. It was like a salad made by someone who never actually saw a salad, but heard what ingredients might be included. All in all, our experience was SO lamentable, we are literally laughing between groans and fiery burps. The garlic naan was decent, but not enough that we’d ever return.

This place is all about the food! There is not much of an ambiance here as it gives food cart/shack vibes but the food is delicious! Spicy means SPICY so don’t order heat if you can’t take it. I enjoyed all of the lamb dishes especially samosas.

If you like authentic Indian food this is your place. When I visited London a decade ago Indian food was very popular there and this is the closest I have gotten to that same feel in Portland.

Wow, we had such an incredible meal at Daawat a Ishq! We got the Kadhai Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Garlic Naan and were so satisfied. Our server, Sunitika, recommended the Aloo Tikki Chaat as an appetizer and we we’re so glad we ordered it.. yum! My only complaint is that I ate too much–the food was just too good. All around, absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back soon.

On my last day in Portland, I decided to try an authentic Indian breakfast—a fantastic experience. The flavors were rich and comforting, just what you’d hope for. The only suggestion I’d offer is a minor upgrade to the ambiance or seating area to match the quality of the food better. Overall, it was a memorable meal to end the trip!

Incredible food. Menu is extensive without being overwhelming and everything is delicious. Spice levels match my expectations as an occasional but not expert Indian food eater. Service is fantastic, whether dine in or pickup, and I maybe over order but always get at least one great meal of leftovers every time.

Chicken vindaloo and garlic naan was top notch! We visited on a weekday evening, sat at the tables outside. Service was prompt and super friendly, the food was delicious and authentic. We’ll definitely be back to this neighborhood gem again!

Update: This has become our favorite Indian spot. I’m digging the butter chicken and chana masala rn.

I visited Daawat-a-Ishq last Saturday afternoon and absolutely loved it! The food was delicious, full of rich flavors, and clearly made with care. Every dish tasted fresh and authentic, and the presentation was great too.
The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere made the whole experience even better. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxing meal and truly enjoy good food.
I highly recommend Daawat-a-Ishq to anyone looking for excellent food and great service in Portland. I’ll definitely be coming back!

As a Chicano Kid from California, being in Portland looking for real, nose running spice has been a challenge presented to me during my time here so far. This spot gave me spice that paired perfectly with delicious flavor. Their garlic naan had a freshness to it that could put most bakeries to shame. The portions were great and their outside seating with a mug of Taj Mahal on a summer night could ease any troubles you might have. Will be sure to bring all my friends back for more.

What a delicious and filling meal! I had all my favs: veg samosas, mango lassi, naan, kofta. My husband had the bombay wings. He was sorry we hadnt ordered more naan to soak up the tasty sauce. But we were also very full. Plus, the naan was excellent. The naan was the best part of a very good meal. It is definitely a hole in the wall location, which is fine by me. I dont want fancy: i want TASTY, and that is what we got. Looking forward to going back.
