What a great place to stop! Very busy, fast and friendly service. The potato salad and cowboy beans were amazing. I did stop late in the day, so my brisket was a little dry at the edges. Would stop back here for sure!

This is the best BBQ place in moriarty to eat. Hands down! Them smokers tickle your tastebuds before you even walk in the door. I have personally tried more than half their menu, and have not been disappointed once. Their crab boil, po’boys, jumbo baked stuffed potatoes, and smoked meats like brisket, pork, turkey legs and chicken are over the top with flavor. My go to happy side dish is collard greens, and them cowboy beans. I mean seriously, it don’t get any better. Definitely a highly recommended must stop to eat place in town.

I discovered this central New Mexico gem during the summer of 2025. And every time that I am in Moriarty, I look forward to having lunch here. The food is delicious and perfect when you want something different from traditional New Mexican cuisine. Today, I enjoyed catfish smoothered in a rich etouffee and a double side of collards greens. It was expertly prepared, with the seasoning especially on point. Another satisfying lunch.

We decided to try the new owners as this was previously Shorty’s BBQ. I hear the new owners are family to the previous owners, I’m not sure if it’s true or not. They have changed the inside a bit but are not maintaining things very well. They ran out of Mac & cheese and cornbread just as lunch hit and their soda machine went down so all they had to drink was iced tea.
The food seems to be pretty good. We ordered a loaded Baked Potato with pulled pork, a large side of Onion rings, BBQ Ribs combo with Fried okra, French fries and Texas toast. There was no sour cream on my potato or on the side. My son says the BBQ sauce is WAY better than the previous owners BBQ sauce.
What we severely disliked about our experience is that they will not hire help, no hiring sign is visible either. You CANNOT run a business with only two people. You will piss of customers like me because we had to wait over 45 minutes for our to-go order. Just as I thought I was finally fixing to leave, then she forgot my onion rings, so we had wait an additional 7 minutes for her to drop those and fry them up.
HIRE HELP or you will lose many customers! We don’t want to wait that long ever again and orders are constantly wrong when it’s just two people trying to run a full BBQ business. Our order was wrong on at least two points today.
IF and WHEN they hire help, we will try again and our review rating will probably go up.

Food was not good. Wings still had feathers and were unseasoned. Brisket was tough & Dry. BBQ sauce was good though. However, I’m from Texas… I have higher expectations.

I can’t decide if the brisket is better than the sides or vice versa. The chopped brisket sandwich held plenty of tender meat. The BBQ sauce tasted homemade. I wasn’t a fan of collard greens until James Peoples gave me a sample of his. They were better than anything I’ve had in Alabama. The potato salad, cole slaw, and fried okra were delicious, too. It’s too bad we were passing through town. I’d go back again and again to Da People’s Choice.

We went here when they first opened and the food was really good but they were working out a few kinks and I did not leave a review at that time. That was about a year ago. We decided to try them again today and this will now be our go to place for food around here!

Driving Route 66 and stopped for late lunch/early dinner. Quaint little restaurant with awesome food. The lady working the counter (owner/co-owner) was super sweet and very helpful. After our meal, we ordered a banana split. Hands down, one of the best treats on our trip. If in the area, stop by here for a GREAT meal!!!

Amazing food! I got the swamp thing po boy combo with Mac n cheese and collard greens and it was just 110% amazing. I definitely recommend coming hungry because it’s that good! The owner was great, he wasn’t just the owner you could tell he’s built a relationship with his staff and he was working right along them. Overall a great environment and just phenomenal. They even handled our party of 6 and a half with ease our food was out in a decent time and everything. Definitely making it a refunded spot
