Interior
Inside is a small hallway leading up to the counter. There is a lot going on with multiple pictures on one wall, hand written menu on the other, and a large whiteboard with more menu items behind the register. It’s a lot to take in so you’ll have to take a moment to orient yourself. Once you decide what you want you’ll order the food, pay, and wait outside for your number to be called.
Seating
There is no interior seating and outside only has two picnic tables with umbrellas to provide shade. If you’re lucky you’ll get those seats, although the umbrellas only cover so much. You’ll see lots of people taking food home or eating on their cars where there’s shade from a tree just a little ways away in the parking lot.
Price
For Hawaiian food, it’s a bit expensive. For example, their popular fried chicken sandwich, the CPC Sandwich, is $8.64, their Loco Moco is $17, and their plate lunches can range from $16-24.
Food
I found all the food to be filled with flavor and fresh. Even though you see their poke on display when you receive it the fish is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Served over rice and the sweet and briny flavors become accentuated bursts of tastiness in your mouth.
The CBC Sandwich is crispy, rich in flavor with their spicy garlic sauce, and the brioche bun just continues the whole package of tastes. The different textures all work well, just as the different flavors do. It is harmony in each bite.
The crispy crinkled fries are also a wonderful textural bite. Seasoned with salt and this will remind you of afternoon’s after school with friends while listening to KROQ. Make sure to ask them for sauce to dip it in.
The Loco Moco is massive and delicious. An island favorite, their version is memorable as they actually season their beef patties, an oversight many other loco mocos are guilty of. Smothered in their brown gravy over three scoops of rice, a combo macaroni/potato salad, and eggs anyway you like this is an island dish that’ll fill you up completely.
Verdict
Da Hawaiian Kitchen is a great choice for looking for that fix to your Hawaiian food craving. Delivering on all fronts, from flavor to texture, you’ll leave happy, satisfied, and full.
The ahi limu poke and salmon poke was okay.
The service was amazing! The lady working the cashier reminded me of being back on Oahu.
Visited the store on 02/22 between 2-4pm.
It’s our first time here, and I personally give this place a 3.5 stars. This is for the disappointment of loco moco and the nice lady who helped me FORGOT to put the seaweed salad with my order. I saw her pack it in the container. I thought she put it in with the drinks, but we got to the hotel room only to find out it wasn’t there.
This place has been around for 15+ years. They had another location in Newport Beach that closed down during covid. It’s a small place inside, enough to order and look at the menu. They have pictures of customers around the wall. They have outdoor seating.
We had:
1. Kalbi short ribs special: It was flavorful and tender. Mac/potato salad is amazing. This was something that was not really raved about. It was perfectly flavored and not salty.
2. Bone out CPC chicken all rice – Chicken was meaty with a crunchy crust.
I guess I’ll have to come back next time to try the Loco moco, lau lau, and kalua pork and cabbage. I didn’t even notice until after the fact that they possibly made their own drinks like the li hing mui lemonade.
Parking: Plenty of free parking. They’re located in a plaza, so finding a spot is easy.
Ambiance/Environment: It’s a very small space inside. No indoor seating. Very limited outdoor seating. You just order inside, wait for them to call your name, pick up your order, and leave. I really liked all the Polaroids on the wall; it was so cute.
Service: We didn’t catch her name, but the cashier that assisted us was nice, quick, and efficient. Throughput was approximately under 10 min after ordering.
What we ordered:
1) CPC Tenders Plate Lunch – I got the 4 piece tenders with their spicy garlic sauce, and it was served w/ rice and mac salad. Their breading was an interesting taste. Different from any other Hawaiian spot we’ve been to. I liked it! Their mac salad was also different; I thought it was okay. Their spicy garlic sauce was delicious tho!
2) CPC Tender & Slaw – My bf ordered this. He also got 4 piece tenders, and he liked it. The spicy garlic sauce was his favorite. He mentioned the slaw really stood out to him. The slaw was flavorful and was different than any other slaw he’s had.
Pricing: Overall, we enjoyed our meals. The pricing was a bit high, but we weren’t surprised considering we were in HB.
