Cute Robot Japanese Kitchen was a first for me and I enjoyed the experience! We happen to go on the coldest night of the year and as we were on our way to the theatre for the evening, we wanted to go right when they opened for dinner service at 5. We were seated in the first floor, near the bar and it was cozy and warm. My guest was my teenage kiddo who happened to be very much into Japanese culture. She stated that the food was spot on as far as Japanese home cooking was concerned. I agree. Deliciously warm and definitely had the home cook touch. Anybody who poo-poos the food as too plain or simple on here does not understand Japanese culture or cooking. I highly recommend the vegetable curry especially with the shrimp as an add-on. My kiddo had pork Katsudon and loved every bite of it. The chicken Karaage, which is fried boneless chicken thighs, were amazingly crispy, hot and were tasty dipped in the two mayos. The miso soup had a deep umami flavor and I am not normally a fan but this had great flavor. Also, in terms of service, we were in and out of there in a little less than an hour without any issues at all! Overall, I would highly recommend this if you are first timer to Japanese food, or a Japanese connoisseur!

November 2025 Yelp Elite event at Cute Robot: I had a great time tonight! It was fun trying a new place, and it was my first time having a Japanese sweet potato dessert. The decor and murals inside the restaurant were awesome and well done. There was something to see on every wall!
I loved my vegetarian bento box with buttered noodles (so delicious!), Japanese potato salad, and mushroom onigiri. The sweet potato dessert had a pretty purple color and tasted unique.
I also had a chance to meet the owners, Janet and Mark–a nice couple who are passionate about their business and their food. I definitely look forward to going back and trying more items on the menu.

Food was good but had higher hopes considering the raving reviews. Restaurant is quite small but we were able to get a table right away. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food was good quality but not super flavorful and expensive for the portions served. We did enjoy our time here but won’t be a repeat on our favorite food spots

I can’t begin to explain how much I love this place. I found it through a recommendation from a friend and it’s one of my favorite places to eat in Milwaukee. My best way to describe the food quality is it’s like you are eating your friends’s grandma’s homemade cooking straight from her kitchen. The quality is high, the service is great, I couldn’t recommend more and I’m telling everyone about it!

Such an unassuming place! The first floor looks like a dive bar and then you go upstairs and its open and spacious with Japanese themed decor. Food took a really long time to come out, but I don’t know if they were behind or understaffed that night, because the restaurant wasn’t too packed. But regardless, everything we had was yummy. Portions were huge. Will definitely come back here again!

This place is AWESOME! I took my family here who are not very familiar with Japanese food, and they were absolutely floored by how amazing the food was. We had omurice, Katsu don, Takoyaki, chicken sandos, pork katsu curry, and potato croquette, my only complaint is I couldn’t have anymore because that’s just how good it was. Our server was super nice, and the vibe of the whole place is very relaxed with lots of sweet Japanese art from anime to traditional historical art everywhere. It is a rather small place but if you ask me that just makes it more intimate which we did not mind at all. We fully intend on going back to try the rest of the items on the menu and really hope this place continues to succeed!

Cutest hidden gem in Milwaukee!
We popped in for a quick snack and were blown away! The Okonomiyaki and Agedashi Tofu were crispy, savory, and full of flavor….can’t wait to come back for the mains.
The vibe? ADORABLE. Every corner has a fun detail, the patio is gorgeous, and there’s an amazing cocktail bar upstairs that feels like a secret lounge. Total 10/10. Go now before everyone finds out! ️

Overall was alright, food was ok, but a bit much for ok. Pork Curry Rice was like Pork and Beans, had a pork in it, lots of potatoes. Tasted good, but not 16 bucks good or 16 bucks large. Maybe the cutlet really is needed. Was still hungry after eating. Had a corner of the Tamago Sando or egg salad sandwich and fries and that was great. We also ended up getting some dessert and the chocolate cake was disappointing, but the strawberry cake was great. Atmosphere and service inside is also excellent.

We have been here 2 times so far.
The feeling you get is not a refined cuisine, but a homey feeling. If you want the feeling of a homecooked japanese meal, this place would be great for you. The staff has always been friendly and attentive.
Pacing of the food is good.
You always get your appetizer first and entree after. It is funny that I even have to mention that, but there are a surprising amount of restaurants that don’t follow that. Wait time for the food is average. Never felt like it took too long.
I think some of the menu items are a bit more pricy than what I would think or prefer, but that can be rather subjective.
The place is not very spacious, so you might have some troubles getting seating if your party is 6 or more.
Never had complaints of the food itself and I will be returning again in a near future.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile. I love the style, Japanese street food/comfort food. I was a little nervous when we first walked in as there is just a small bar area and a couple of tables, but they have an upstairs dining and bar area. There is cute Japanese decor and tables.
Our waiter was helpful in providing any recommendations or answering any questions we had. We ordered an Ryukyu Old Fashioned and Sprite to drink and the Okonomiyaki to start. The Okonomiyaki was great, a pork pancake with onions, cabbage, mayo, and some other ingredients was really delicious! We had the Shoyu Butter Noodles and the Cute Robot Fish Fry that were both paired with miso soup. Really good! The potatoes that came with the fish fry were so good!
The food was ready pretty quickly. We are excited to come back to try more of the menu!
