As someone with celiac disease, it is usually difficult to find a small, family restaurant with a cozy, welcoming feeling that is safe from cross contact with gluten in the kitchen. Our waitress was beyond kind, understanding & went above and beyond to ensure I had a meal that was safe. There were multiple options on the menu naturally gluten free. First time ordering white fish & the char broiled white fish was delicious! My husband had the whitefish basket & father in law had a pastie. All of which were thoroughly enjoyed! Perfectly located along M2, we will be visiting each time we drive by!

Very friendly place, arrived at dinner time. The waitress was very busy so service was slow. I was excited to try a pasty, it looked yummy. The taste, not so much! There was an OFF flavor, I tried the potatoes SEPARATELY, then the meat. Just no. Something tangy and strange. The chowder was creamy, the patè was flavorful.

The lovely folks at the Moosewood recommended this place to us and I’m so happy we took their advice!

The restaurant was clean and comfortable, not too crowded, and we received our menus as soon as we sat down. And the food!!! Wow!!! Hubby got a pastie the size of a football and I got a burger and we split a apple dumpling. Everything was homemade and fresh. And it was some of the absolute BEST food we’d had while on vacation! Staff was very friendly and welcoming and treated us like we were regulars rather than just passing through. We visit the UP every couple years and will definitely make this our home-away-from-home restaurant.

So my fellow Google Readers… If you should find yourself traveling west along US2, do yourself a big favor and stop here. . You be happy you did!

p.s. If you have time and the weather is cooperating, stop by Cut River Bridge Park. After such a fabulous meal, you’ll need a bit of exercise to get the digestion moving!

Every meal I’ve had here has been great. Having a hard time getting away from the whitefish sandwich. It’s VERY good!
The server was alone today and she killed it! I highly recommend stopping here.

Amazing Whitefish Chowder, and they have it available all the time. I also had probably the best Mushroom and Swiss burger I’ve ever had, and they’re my favorite so I order them all over. My friend had the Michigan salad and it was terrific. I wish they had the view the restaurant across the road has, but the food more than makes up for it!

I recommend the Gus Special. Whitefish is fried crispy with a very light batter. Tartar sauce a nice compliment for the fish. Chowder and pate we’re both yummy!

This is a great local restaurant. The staff had great recommendations and the food was delivered quickly. We had fish chowder and spicy beer battered cod. Both excellent. The cod – moist, tasty and perfectly battered and fried. Chowder loaded with fish and potatoes, and super creamy. We only wish that we could eat there again but alas, we were only passing through. Worth the stop.

What a great experience for this being a family diner. We had a Whitefish dinner as well as sandwich. We ordered a couple draft beers they had from a microbrewery up in Ishpeming and they were absolutely superb. So good we ordered two more! The dinner could not have been any better. Lots of locals in here which gave it a great vibe. The staff was friendly and the cook even came out at the end of his shift to thank us for visiting. We will definitely be back.

I had an absolutely incredible meal of whitefish chowder, charbroiled whitefish, and redskin mashed potatoes (with gravy, of course!). The atmosphere is warm, friendly, and inviting. Jim (the owner) and his wife are super sweet and took time out of their busy day to chat with our table and ensure that the food and service was top-notch. I also recommend the apple dumplings with homemade rum sauce and delicious vanilla bean ice cream to complete your meal. (I took a bite of the fish before I took the picture).

Food was great, service was ok, our waitress did not hear my order correctly so I had items missing. If she had repeated our order for accuracy would have caught it. But when I asked about the missing items she promptly brought them. I had the pastie combo with bowl of whitefish chowder and a sample of the whitefish pate. My husband and son both got the bacon burger which was really good. Cooked to perfection. It has a Family friendly atmosphere. Great food at good prices. Don’t forget to visit the Cut River store, there is a lot of cool yooper souvenirs and treats
