Custard Shack never disappoints!!! It’s always a great sweet treat….especially during the summer! When I saw that they had a custard & chocolate chip sandwich for a limited time….I knew I needed to move quick. The sandwich was a 10/10!! My friend also got a blueberry/chocolate chip milkshake with whipped cream, waffle cone pieces and a cherry on top! I also posted the other custard flavors that they for right now. I would suggest that you add The Custard Shack to your to-do list several times!

A classic walk-up ice cream shop, which is somewhat of a rarity for this area. The actual shack is as unassuming as the name, but don’t be fooled. Custard Shack delivers where it counts. They also have a rotating menu of flavors.

I had cookies and cream and to be honest I’m surprised this place is rated so highly. Maybe it was just a one off but the “custard” was not thick and luxurious like others I’ve had in the past. Custard is typically very velvety and this was thin and crystallized with some large ice crystals. It was overall a pretty disappointing experience for my partner and I.

I think they changed the recipe for their custard because when I first ate here a few years ago, the custard was thick and didn’t have a lot of air incorporated into it. The past couple recent visits, I noticed that it was more like some very airy ice cream? Disappointed that what used to be a real custard shop is no longer actually custard…

Love the walk up service, the staff is always smiling and happy. It’s a fun summer treat after a long day. We take our dog and they sell puppy pops, which he loves. I typically get waffle cone with two scoops. Very tasty

Luv the custard, I choose a different Flavor each time, with no disappointment. Today I went for the Lemon Sorbet, excellent, true to form.

Cute little local ice cream place. Reasonably priced, decent selection, and while it gets crowded, they seem to be really efficient in getting through the lines. Went with a small chocolate custard with hot fudge and crumbed Reese’s cups. Thought it might be a soft serve, though it was a hard scoop. Looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu.

Not to be overlooked by The Dairy Godmother up the road, Custard Shack is a frozen custard shop worth the pitstop. Located in Alexandria’s charming Belle Haven neighborhood along the Potomac River, Custard Shack is just off the GW Memorial Parkway. After visiting with my five-year-old daughter, here’s why you should go:

Everyone has their favorite ice cream store in town, and this place is mine! Every time I’ve gone I’ve been blown away by how delicious their ice cream is. Sometimes the line is a little long, but remember the best things in life are worth waiting for.

This is such a cute mom and pop shop. The ice cream is absolutely delicious and they have a small variety of flavors guaranteed to please. My daughter picked a banana flavor that concentrated the banana in such a perfect way– it was intense but so truly banana. I had strawberry. They don’t add food coloring, so the offerings don’t look as visually Prismacolor as many other shops, but don’t be fooled!
