Curry and Cocoa Thai Eatery is one of those rare places that feels less like a restaurant and more like stepping into someone’s story. The name itself hints at the personality of its owner, Nalinrat “Lily” Sahunalu, creative, bold, and full of heart.

The moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by vibrant Cuban paintings and photographs, a nod to her partner’s heritage and a big part of what makes the space feel so alive and unique.

The food is absolutely outstanding. Lily’s Pad Thai is packed with bold, confident flavors, the kind that stay with you long after the meal. The fresh spring rolls are crisp and refreshing, and they become unforgettable when dipped into her house‑made peanut sauce. It’s the kind of sauce you’d happily eat by the spoonful.

What truly elevates this place, though, is Lily herself. She’s a fascinating, warm, and incredibly talented chef who built this tiny restaurant, physically and creatively, entirely on her own. Her dedication shows in every detail.

On one visit, I arrived about 30 minutes after closing, and she still welcomed me in and made a stir‑fry from the vegetables and chicken she had left, finishing it with a homemade sauce that tasted like pure generosity.

Curry and Cocoa isn’t just a place to eat; it’s an experience shaped by a remarkable woman with an inspiring story. If you ever find yourself in Astoria, Oregon, you owe it to yourself to stop in, say hello to Lily, admire the Cuban‑inspired space she created, and enjoy some truly amazing food.

Some of the best (if not THE best) Thai food I’ve ever had. I ordered the salmon curry dish since I’d never tried it and knew the salmon would be fresh. The flavors were delicious! My boyfriend had the Basil Fried Rice and his was perfect too. We went on a nice quiet night and enjoyed the whole experience. I would give it 10 stars!

Delicious authentic Thai food restaurant. We really enjoyed our dinner and time spent here. The woman who helped us was lovely. After talking with her we concluded that it was her recipie and she created the special that night that was incredible. Really small dining area so if you want to dine in go at an office time.

Stopped for dinner here. Beautiful atmosphere with authentic Cuban artwork on the walls and classic blue note jazz in the background. Lily was so nice, i found out we both used to work on cruise ships, and she made an amazing potato curry. Highly recommended if you want some real Thai cuisine!

Great food!!!
Wonderful curries.
Great choices for vegetarians and pescetarians.
This place is tiny but cozy. There are only 4 tables and they can seat maybe 20 people max during non-covid times, so you have to plan coming here carefully to increase your chances to find a table. We have had to go somewhere else a couple times because there was no seating available.
This is a great, unique restaurant that serves non-American dishes.
Know that they have beers too!!! You’re not going to see beers on the menu but you can ask for them.
We will come back here often!!!

Love this Thai restaurant! Best Thai food in town. The place has limited seating area so we often order take out, but once in a while we like to dine in. Their curry is fantastic and highly recommend their drunken noodles.

A must if you are in the area. Super yummy! Cashew nut chicken was super good as well as the Thai iced coffee and mango sticky rice. You can order anything here and it would be amazing. Chef makes everything fresh! Great music, great staff, affordable, and cute inside. What more could you want?

One thing though they typically open at 12 apparently instead of 11!

Fresh and tasty ingredients well prepared by a local chef. I gad the salmon special: sweet mango complex sauce with veggies, cashews and a nice salmon filet. Spouse had the curried shrimp. Great fresh flavors. Go early or plan on a wait!
