Brunch is back, and Alfabeto is bringing it like never before! Located in Pittsburgh’s lively Alphabet City on the Northside, Alfabeto is a charming Italian spot that mixes authentic cuisine with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The restaurant prides itself on handcrafted pastas, seasonal dishes, and locally sourced ingredients that bring a true taste of Italy right to your plate.

But Alfabeto isn’t just about food—it’s about an experience. Nestled near the City of Asylum, a local nonprofit that hosts incredible musicians, authors, and translators, Alfabeto creates a dynamic setting where amazing Italian food and cultural performances meet. You can enjoy a beautiful dinner and then step right into a world of artistic expression—a pretty unique combo that sets this place apart.

For those looking for a bit more privacy or intimacy, Alfabeto offers a private dining space that can host up to 30 guests—perfect for those special occasions or even a cozy brunch get-together.

The ambiance is cool, with tons of natural light pouring into a space adorned with modern décor and a stylish bar. As for brunch? You have to try the tiramisu French toast—it’s as decadent as it sounds. Topped with tiramisu crème, maple syrup, the chilaquiles, it’s an indulgent treat that balances sweet and savory perfectly. Other standout dishes include the seasonal frittata with home fries, and their granola and yogurt bowl with fresh fruit and honey—a refreshing, light option that pairs well with the richness of the other dishes.

Alfabeto delivers a little something for everyone, whether you’re here for a casual meal, a special celebration, or a cultural evening to remember. Definitely one of Pittsburgh’s must-visit spots!

We had such an amazing time at brunch at Cucina Alfabeto! The food was absolutely delicious. We tried so many dishes, but the standouts were definitely the chilaquiles and the pancakes topped with cannoli cream and strawberries (SO good!).

Our server, Sarah, was wonderful. You could really tell how much she cares about the restaurant, which made the experience even better. The bartender, Chris, also went above and beyond by creating specialty cocktails for us, which was such a fun personal touch since we never know what to order.

Everything about our visit felt warm and welcoming, and we can’t wait to come back for dinner next time!

When we arrived the reservations we made were there and we were seated immediately. Our wait person, LaDonna was very cordial and helped us through the process of taking our drink order. We were there for Winter Restaurant Week but needed to make an adjustment to the dessert selection and were accommodated. The wine selection wasn’t large but the Cab from Slovenia paired well the brussels sprout and the main bolognaise with tagliatelle. The home made bread had a hard crust and great texture. The carrot cake was a different presentation and also excellent. If you enjoy good food, I would definitely recommend Alsabeto. I’ll definitively be back. Because we are in the older range, we shared the meal, which made the value even better.

Walked in the door and they had no record of the OpenTable reservation my friend had made. Fine, they accommodated us.

Food took an hour to arrive. Keep in mind this was two orders of their bolognaise.

When the food arrived it was mediocre. Noodles soggy.

The jazz was nice.

Manager acknowledged the shortcomings and comped us, but the waitress brought a full bill. We asked her to speak with the manager and correct it. Final bill came, unlike the glass of wine that I had ordered, and we threw some cash on the table and left.

I really wanted to love this place but it was just meh. Went on February 15th with my wife and they had a pre-fix menu for valentines weekend that was not advertised on their website, which meant they had none of the food we actually went there to eat. The pre-fix menu was just their normal menu but with only half the items, and they were out of one of the two appetizers offered, so no options. We really liked the waiter, he was very nice and professional but also the only person working, so service was slow. The food was ok, nothing special. Really disappointed that the tiramisu came in a tiny plastic cup, not very classy. Unfortunately, I will probably not return.

The aesthetics of this restaurant are really great. Nice vibes. Great for date night.

The restaurant includes a bookstore, which might be the best in the city. It is a great artsy literary bookstore.

The menu is very good. I enjoyed the food and service.

Overall, we had an ok experience at Alfabeto. Our waiter started us with some focaccia which was warm, but the top of it was hard and crunchy, which was off-putting. We started with the Arancini, which itself was delicious but was served over three globs of what seemed to be an aioli. My husband enjoyed this, but I thought it was a miss. The presentation of it was poor, especially for the price point, and I found the flavor it to be too adjacent to that of the Arancini. I was craving something more acidic like a marinara with it.

For dinner, I had the agnolotti and my husband had the papardelle. My husband enjoyed his dish and I had a couple of bites and it was tasty, but again, I felt very overpriced. The presentation left something to be desired. The first few bites of the Agnolotti were very flavorful. The pasta was perfectly cooked. However, the texture of everything on the plate was very monotone and at the end I felt like I was eating a lot of mush. There was a nice sauce on the top of it that provided some good sweet flavor but it had a skin on it when it was served, which made it seem to me like it had been sitting around a bit before service.

The wine recommended with my meal was a great pairing and I really enjoyed it. Dessert of tiramisu was excellent. Service was great, our server was helpful and provided suggestions of other places in the area to check out. The restaurant was dead when we first arrived (I think it had just opened) but picked up a little over the time we were here.

Overall, I would probably not come back here, mostly because the meal we had was overpriced for what we got. Would come back for the arancini and a drink.

Excellent restaurant with house-made pasta and bread. The service is fantastic! I love the eclectic and comfortable atmosphere. Excellent, but pricey wine list. The menu changes but the duck was perfect and so was the herb-infused pappardelle bolonese. I am a HUGE fan of pappardelle and this did not disappoint. We finished our dinner with some lovely cannolli (if memory serves, it was orange vanilla and pistachio). Excellent date night restaurant. Highly recommend. We will definitely be back.
