Okay, so three spoonfuls of rice and one strip of fish isn’t a bowl. Also the “creamy” garlic sauce is oil soup!

Terrible, expensive meal here. I bought a dinner plate and some other things. It wasn’t cheap at all, and the food was terrible. The meat was chewy, the beans watery, and the sandwich didn’t have much filling at all. It is so disappointing, as we used to really enjoy Cuban Eddie’s in River Vale. The people at the counter were very nice, but the food was so subpar that we won’t be returning.

They used to include plantains on the platter, and now nothing (in all fairness, the menu doesn’t say it comes with plantains)… a big container of mediocre rice and a cup of watery beans. The meat was so chewy that my family decided it was better to just toss it.

The menu is on the wall, with no printed menus. I get it…I’m sure it’s expensive to print menus, especially since prices have been so unstable since January. While I don’t have a problem with the wall menu, now they simply scratch out the old price and write the new one on the wall. It didn’t bother me at first, as I understand that prices are going up. But, whereas I used to think Cuban Eddie’s was a cool, affordable place, now it just seems sloppy.

The sad thing is, we won’t be back. Too expensive for subpar food at too expensive a price.

Used to be outstanding; incredible value for pretty decent food. Been coming here for almost 3 years. The decline is slow but now noticeable. First prices increase, then plantains are no longer included in the burritos and bowls but are available for a fee. They also forget to add the plantains you paid for about half of the time. Now the food is noticeably smaller but prices stay the same. It doesn’t feel worth it at all anymore.

I’ve been coming here for lunch almost every day during the week for myself and my crew, and even dinner pretty often. You’d think being a loyal, regular customer would mean some consistency — but nope. Every single time, it’s like I’m playing roulette with who’s behind the counter and what “rules” they’ve decided to make up that day.

All I ever ask for is simple: chicken legs from the stew. No rice, no beans. That’s it. Sometimes they’ll do it, sometimes they’ll argue I can “only get roasted chicken,” sometimes they’ll try to charge me full price without the sides. One week, a woman rang me up just fine, even added chicken legs as an add-on because I didn’t want the meal. Another time I got three pieces with lunch, another time only two. No rhyme, no reason, just whatever they feel like in the moment. Bizarre.

The staff spends more time glued to their cell phones than paying attention to customers. Half of them can’t be bothered to communicate clearly, and when they do, they’re busy speaking in Spanish, assuming customers can’t understand. Spoiler: some of us do. Hearing the rude comments behind the counter isn’t exactly a good look for a business that wants to keep its doors open.

And the phones? None of the numbers work. Call the one posted on the door and no one ever answers. You can’t get ahold of anyone — no callback, no communication. How is this still considered an acceptable way to run a business?

It blows my mind that this place is still in business. Probably because some of the meals are dirt cheap — and sure, in this economy, people appreciate affordability. But with service this inconsistent and reviews stacking up, I’m shocked they stay as busy as they do. Primus Park Mall is basically a ghost town, and the Rivervale and Dumont locations are mostly packed at lunchtime only, thanks to landscapers and construction workers grabbing a quick bite.

Instead of opening new locations left and right, maybe focus on cleaning up the ones you already have and figuring out how to get a consistent system in place. The floors are dirty, the customer service is all over the place, and the whole experience screams mismanagement. It doesn’t surprise me at all that the rating hovers at a 4.0 — if anything, that feels generous.

Do better, guys.

I have been coming here since they opened. They have great food and the prices are even better! Can’t beat dinner for 2 for $20! My favorite it is the Ropa Vieja (shredded beef) with their Moro or dirty rice, you can’t go wrong with it!

Cuban Eddie’s in River Vale is goated. I’ve been going for about two years now and there’s a reason it’s so popular in the area. While the atmosphere is not amazing or extravagant, it is very simple and there’s absolutely nothing to complain about. The ingredients are also very hearty and are consistent in quality throughout the day for the most part. The best part of Cuban Eddie’s, however, is the pricing. I don’t know a single other place in the Bergen area with such good prices. You can get a burrito the size of a small newborn baby for $6. They’re especially generous with the portions later in the evening before they close. Great restaurant.

They have good food, but they continuously forget to add the Moho sauce. We call ,we text ,we’ve even seen it on the receipt but it never makes it to the house. It sounds minor but imagine eating salad without the salad dressing.
