Saw that we had a new spot in town, in a location that has a history of being a revolving door for businesses – so wanted to give it a try.

TL;DR: It felt as though Crunch It is attempting to be the neighborhood Chipotle, and to their credit we don’t have one, so maybe it’ll do well? Great service, VERY generous portions, but not very flavorful ingredients.

In an attempt to try something basic, I ordered a “Veggie” burrito (not on menu, ~$11) and loaded it up with the many vegetarian options they offered on the line. They do have some unique items to add to their dishes, including pickled onions, which was neat – but otherwise it felt as though the ingredients was just pre-packaged fare (not freshly shredded cheese, not freshly made guacamole, etc.).

They are VERY generous with their servings (although I can’t speak for their servings of meat). They asked ‘one or two’ scoops for every item and even with ‘one scoop’ it made for a generous burrito.

The burrito itself was fine, but not very flavorful, and I felt like I added a lot. The rice ‘resembled’ the cilantro-lime rice at their competitors location, but wasn’t very fragrant. The beans tasted like they were straight from the can, and the lettuce was chopped in a way that made it very bulky and not a great ‘mix’ with the rest of the ingredients in the burrito.

I’m hopeful this place thrives. I think the concept is great, but I’m also hopeful as they haven’t yet ‘officially opened’ (I was there during their soft-opening hours) that they haven’t yet dialed in seasonings and treatments to the different ingredients.

With regards to service, the young woman that helped me was very kind and excitedly sharing about upcoming ‘plans’.

And, the fact that they were grilling the meat freshly, right behind the service line on a flat-top was encouraging – although I haven’t yet tried the meat.

I think there’s hope and maybe I’ll come back and try it (and re-review?) after they officially open.
