That is incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re just looking for a simple substitution and end up feeling like you’re being scammed. A $5 upcharge to swap a wing for a thigh—when the menu clearly states a set price for a 3-piece mix—is definitely a major red flag for any customer, let alone a Local Guide who knows how pricing should work.
Since you frequently contribute to Google Maps, a detailed review will warn others in the community about these inconsistent pricing tactics and the service you received from Angel.
Drafted Review for Crown Fried Chicken
Rating: ⭐☆☆☆☆
Title: Avoid—Deceptive Pricing and Poor Service
I had a terrible experience at this location regarding both customer service and pricing transparency. The menu clearly lists a 3-piece mixed chicken meal for $7. When I placed my order, the employee, Angel, informed me the mix was a breast, wing, and leg. However, when I simply asked to substitute the wing for a thigh, I was told it would be an additional $5.
It is completely unreasonable to charge nearly double the price of the meal for a simple piece substitution. The prices at the register do not match what is advertised on the menu board. Beyond the pricing issue, the service was “not nice” and very unprofessional. I felt overcharged and disrespected as a customer. SMH… I will not be returning.
Why This Review Matters
As a Google Local Guide, your feedback carries extra weight. When you post this, here are a few things to consider:
* Highlight “Price Doesn’t Match”: Google’s algorithm often flags “Pricing” as a key attribute. By mentioning that the menu said $7 but you were charged significantly more, you help trigger a warning for other users looking at the “Price” section of the business profile.
* The “Substitution” Trap: Many businesses try to “nickel and dime” customers on substitutions, but a $5 jump for a thigh is extreme. Explicitly stating the dollar amounts helps other locals realize this isn’t just a small fee, but a major discrepancy.
* Response from Management: Often, Crown Fried Chicken locations are franchises. Posting a name like “Angel” makes it much harder for ownership to ignore the feedback, as it points to a specific shift and staff member.
Next Steps for You
* Check Your Receipt: If you kept the receipt, take a photo of it next to the menu board price if possible. Physical proof of a “Price Match” failure is the most effective way to get a business to change its habits.
* Report the Business: If you feel the pricing is intentionally deceptive, you can also report the business for “Inaccurate Prices” directly through the “Suggest an Edit” feature on Google Maps.

I’m going to be completely honest, I’m not a fan of their fried chicken. I think it has an unusual oily smell/taste and I prefer Kennedy Fried Chicken’s chicken. But, the other items available here makes it so nice to stop by. Their prices are great too. I’d recommend their potato wedges, fried jumbo shrimp, burgers, and gyros. The people that work here are wonderful and are a big reason why I come back. The gentleman at the front also speaks Spanish and helps people order, you can tell everyone appreciates him.
Yo, whoever responds to these google reviews is hilarious LOL

I visited this location 9/9/2025
Upon knowing what I wanted to order I asked the gentleman what the price would be, and he gave me the price. When I went to pull out my debit card, he asked if I would be paying with cash or card? I told him with a card. At this point he let me know the price would be more. I let him know that I would pay but that what he is doing is illegal and if someone reported him to the IRS the business would be fined. He kept talking and being a bit abrasive. I responded calmly that businesses cannot charge a price for customers paying cash and another for them paying with card, because it’s illegal.

The phone rang, he picked up and preceded to assist a customer with their order. He gets off the phone and asks, “Are you going to pay with card and it be legal or illegal?” I told him that I will pay the price and what he’s doing is illegal. He preceded to tell me that I could get out of there then. My whole dialogue with him was calm and straight forward the same way a teacher speaks to a student. It was obvious he didn’t know he was violating the law, or he didn’t care. But I was informing him that the IRS would fine him if they found out. When he told me that to get out of there, I just left.

Businesses don’t have to take credit/debit cards and only accept cash. There are a very small percentage of eateries and convenience stores who do this. The majority know they will miss out on a whole lot of business not taking cards. Banks charge a fee for transaction, and so smart businesses add this cost within the product/service price. What they don’t do is charge two different prices, one for cash, and another for debit/credit card. I have found that for some reason many businesses run and operated by non Americans think this practice is okay. I assume they either don’t know, or care about the law concerning financial transactions with consumers.

This place is prefect example of a business helping keep a community authentic. This chicken is also fried golden brown. The banana pudding is legendary, flawless. Oh yeah, the pizza is also excellent. All the food here will always stay in our memories as a classic. 5 stars ++!

Worst decision today was eating here, $17 and change for 3 pieces and fries with water. The chicken and fries will cut the roof of your mouth, expensive and disgusting. I will stick with pollo campero from now on, this filthy place should be shut down.

Gyro tasted old and gross, beef patty was burned and tasted like it was from last week, fries were the only redeeming food but that’s it.

I wanted to follow up on my earlier review, especially after the owner called it ‘childish and silly.’ Let’s be clear, a negative review is just that, and in my case, it’s about the food quality. I’ve had my fair share of gyros and beef patties, and I can spot fresh from old. Even if they were fresh, something wasn’t right in the preparation. I’m sure there are folks who enjoy the food here, but I wasn’t one of them. So, I wrote my review to keep it real. So, allow me to provide a clearer and less ‘childish’ assessment upon revisiting my original review.

The sauce consistency resembled mayonnaise, excessively sour, and entirely out of balance. The bread was disappointingly floppy, lacking any semblance of toasting. The lamb meat emitted an unusual odor, mirroring the off-putting scent of the beef patties. I’ll give credit where it’s due – the fries were commendable, crispy, and fluffy.

Honestly, I didn’t have high hopes to begin with, but it was worse than expected. I apologize if my reviews were childish for you, I hope this can clear up why I wrote what I wrote cause the food tasted like I took 12 dollars out of my wallet and threw it in the garbage. Please learn to take some criticism for what it is. To end this review, I had gyro and beef patties from carts that were excellent compared to what I had here. AND ALSO I am not only on commenting on food quality issues here, please use the energy you wasted writing paragraphs on how I offended your establishment and work on the food instead. Thanks

My first review was inaccurate because of the speed of Google! I do apologize for that! I love the food and it’s always fresh! You might have to wait about 10 minutes for your chicken, But it’s always hot & fresh!!!
