Overall the food was ok, something better than others. The dip sampler was the best due to the great flavors.
The side of gravy was the texture of pudding, very disappointed in that.
Would I come back and try different menu items…absolutely!
We’ve had two visits, once at a table and once at the bar. I’d first like to note. The bar staff is incredible, super friendly and personable, they seem to know the menu and kept our beers full. Also very positive and nice about checking in on us throughout our meal.
We walked in close to 7pm and were immediately sat at a high top, no reservations, table side waitress was also A+ and doing her best. During this trip the kitchen was a bit behind and out of a lot of ingredients, there was some confusion and our waitress expressed her frustrations to us. We definitely understand the challenges of opening a new establishment and could relate to her.
Unfortunately we did not get to try everything we wanted, either trip. Some times they ran out of were oysters, shrimp (of any kind, on our first trip) cocktail sauce, etc.
So we were a bit disappointed but were still able to eat our fill.
Our food was fresh and for the most part very tasty. The steak Dianne was a bit tough but cooked / prepared appropriately as requested. I believe it was the cut of the meat that made it chewy.
The side of veggies could be improved and unfortunately our *apples & ice cream dessert was lacking. It came out already heavily melted and the *apples were undercooked, but still flavorful!
We believe this place has great potential and are cheering them on as they continue to improve just after opening. Some dishes could use attention to minor ingredients or quality of the cuts of meat, also presentation. It’s rough around the edges but attracting a lively crowd and fun atmosphere! It seems like there will be a great place to sit outside as the weather warms as well.
Hoping to have a better experience on our next trip and will update this review to reflect as such!
The other two people in my party ordered steak for dinner and said that the steak was very tender and flavorful. I opted for the Lemon Dill Salmon with the seasonal vegetables and rice in a lemon dill buerre blanc sauce. The salmon was really good, but the sauce was a little too watery for me and the rice was very plain- I would maybe recommend adding a little seasoning to it.
We also got the caramel apple streusel flatbread to split for dessert. It was so good and tasted like fall…all it really needed was some vanilla ice cream or maybe some custard or something cold or cool to balance it out as it is very sweet. Other than those minor things, would definitely recommend and definitely intend on going back!
Service: Hit or miss. Our server was very friendly and did a good job with refilling our drinks throughout. But she brought my husband’s salad almost immediately after we ordered & didn’t say anything about mine. A couple minutes later, my husband asked about it, and she said they were making mine. The shrimp app came out (still no Caesar salad for me). Finally, after we had eaten the appetizer & his salad was finished, my husband asked another person who walked by about my salad, and within 30 seconds, she brought it to me. Our server checked on us quite a few times throughout the meal, but she disappeared after bringing our check, about which we had several questions.
Food: The shrimp was really good! The breading is pretty thick, but the coconut is very present, which we loved. The side salads are VERY small, especially for a $6 add-on in this area. But both of us enjoyed the salads; they were very tasty. My husband enjoyed his burger but wasn’t wowed by it. My fish & chips were good also; the breading was softer than it looked but did have some nice crisp on the edges.
Value for the price: Undecided. We don’t mind paying higher prices for higher end meals, but this restaurant again is a mixed bag. $15 for a burger isn’t bad. But the crab cake entree would’ve been $30. The salads weren’t $6 salads in our opinion.
The weirdest part: The check.
The menu listed whole dollar amounts for every item. Our check came, and every item was more than the menu stated (example: $12.48 for an item listed as $12). After asking (someone who wasn’t our server, because our server had disappeared), we were told that the taxes were included in the list price on the receipt. This was also confusing, because underneath the subtotal of the list prices, two more lines of taxes were listed with another total beyond that. THEN, there was yet ANOTHER total, because as it turns out, there are DIFFERENT PRICES depending on whether you pay with cash or with card. You don’t get a discount for cash; you get an upcharge for card.
I have problems with this.
1. Whenever an establishment starts tacking on processing fees for cards, it feels like you’re nickeling & diming your customers. I would much rather you inflate your menu prices to absorb that cost of business for yourself than to surprise the customer with it at the end.
2. There was nowhere on the menu or in the restaurant that advised us of the upcharge for using credit card. We had visited the website several times in anticipation of coming here; nothing was stated there, either. The server we asked about it insisted that we let a manager come explain things to us (we weren’t going to ask to speak with a manager), and she plainly told us it isn’t posted anywhere.
What a bizarre and confusing way to end our meal together. To me, it’s not about the dollar amount; it’s the courtesy (or lack thereof) to the customer by surprising us with confusing tickets and unexpected upcharges.
Honestly, it’s unlikely we will come back, simply because there was nothing that really wowed us.
