Although the Ravioli was good, the Bolognese sauce was very good.
But the house bread was very dry (with no offer for more), the green salad was offered with Italian dressing only (I asked) and even when I added more, it was pretty much tasteless. The table cheese was not freshly grated (maybe Kraft ?). No other drink was offered after wine was refused.
We weren’t very original in our order I had the Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken and my friend had it with Shrimp. I found out the Alfredo Sauce is made fresh to order, the chicken had seasoning to it. Make sure to order the side of bread, it isn’t served automatically.
We saved enough room for dessert and decided on the Chocolate Cake… WOW!!! It was huge and delicious, with chocolate sprinkles, so much that we took half of it home.
Adolfo the server was so great. When we mentioned that it was our first time, he patiently went over the menu and specials. We were in a silly mood, he laughed at our jokes!
I am going to make it a point to go back and try the specials, the lasagna (which was enormous), and more of the homemade desserts.
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Crivello’s Italian Bistro in San Juan Capistrano, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Our server, Christy, truly made the afternoon special with her professionalism and extensive knowledge of the menu. Her descriptions of the dishes were so vivid and enticing, I could almost taste them before they arrived.
We started with the fried calamari appetizer, which was perfectly crispy and delicious. The veal piccata we ordered was tender and flavorful, complemented beautifully by a fresh Caesar salad. The baked artichoke was another highlight, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. To top it all off, we indulged in a fantastic carrot cake for dessert, paired with a rich, aromatic espresso.
The ambience of Crivello’s is equally impressive, with charming music and casually-quaint scenery that enhanced our dining experience. I cannot recommend Crivello’s Italian Bistro enough – it’s a gem in San Juan Capistrano that delivers both outstanding food and exceptional service. Thank you, Christy, for making our late afternoon unforgettable!
While I fully expected to be underwhelmed, when it was brought to the table, I was immediately surprised (pleasantly) rather than using manicotti pasta shells, the chef had given it a twist, using a scratch made crepe as the shell to hold the delicious ricotta parmesan blend. I could instantly tell the marinara was handmade, adorned with a beautiful fresh cut chiffonade of basil sprinkled over the sauce and plate. The smell was amazing. And then, the first bite…..omg! The balance, the fresh ingredients, bright marinara sauce, creamy ricotta, fresh basil, absolutely amazing and delicate. It was a 10 out of 10.
My wife ordered the italian sub, panini style. It was also packed with beautiful fresh cold cuts, tomato and cheese, perfectly pressed and warmed. Delicious! It isn’t often that you encounter someone in the kitchen that truly knows what they’re doing, but Sebastian blew us away with his approach to Italian/Sicilian dishes. He is absolutely a master chef.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone. Can’t wait to go back. I was told by our server that the Tiramisu is a family recipe, and on a scale of 1-10, it’s a 100. Definitely on my list for next time. :))
