Service was friendly, drinks were fine. Upstairs patio is a prime spot. Average smash burgers my family ate. But this might be the grossest piece of chicken any establishment has ever served me. Some chicken breasts have small bits that can vary but this whole piece was inedible. Gross dark fatty spots like the one pictured and the rest was like dried out jerky no knife could cut through. If these are breaded in-house I’m actually offended kitchen staff thought this was OK to serve to someone. The whole piece was visibly disgusting without having to cut through it.

I had the tater tot bowl. It didn’t disappoint. The tots were crispy. The egg was perfectly cooked as well as the bacon and sausage. The crack sauce was tasty. My husband ordered the wilber sandwich but they gave him a different sandwich. I had a latte that was delicious.

The place looks cool from a distance but the view from the second story is not at all interesting. Your view is blocked by trees on the south side, and honestly there’s not much to look at besides passing cars.
What I found weird was that I was told to find my seat first rather than outright order at the bar. Unlucky for me, the waitress has already gone on break, but another staff member remembered me. I would have been waiting up there unnoticed! It’s great that she came when she did because I was about to leave.
The drink was the saving grace. It was an old fashioned for $13, served in a lame plastic “glass”. It was annoying that I wasn’t given a napkin with it. How strange!
The Pro: it tasted like a strong amount of bourbon-awesome for those of us that like it that way.
The music is a little loud, so like any bar expect to lose your voice or do very little listening. Seating was fine on a Saturday 9pm. The drink came out promptly.

**Only reviewing the Smashburger part of Crackheads**
Hard to imagine a worse burger. Imagine smushing the black crusty bits of hamburger left in a frying pan after making a REAL burger – somehow mushing this together, putting it on a bun and handing it to someone with a straight face? I can’t imagine this either but this is what masquerades as a “burger” here. Kid you not. It was inedible. When did crusty bits of grease become a burger? I hope their drinks are good.

Oh ordered fries and onion rings too. Stringy “plain” fries were dusted with red cajun powder, yet had zero taste. Onion rings – zero taste.

Wonderful outdoor venue in both shade and sunshine. Several breakfast and lunch options available, breakfast sandwiches, burgers, etc. Also a great cocktail menu. This place is usually extremely busy on weekends. Great downtown Carlsbad vibe. Everything is order at the bar, and open seeding.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast. The service was great, and the food was delicious. Had a little breakfast and added some sliders just because… we had og sliders, breakfast tots, and a softy. Will be back again for sure

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat look no further than Crackheads. This quaint niche restaurant and bar provides the perfect intimate atmosphere for catching up with a friend, hanging out with a friend or a casual date. It is exclusively outdoor seating that is bathed in the Carlsbad sun, but they do offer covering for those looking for a cooler spot as well.

Food:
Their main dishes include variations of breakfast sandwiches which include, meat eggs and cheese in a variety of combinations, but they also serve other types of American sandwiches and have avocado toast on their menu as well. The bar is a full bar serving all the traditional cocktails, local beers and wines, but they also have several of their own cocktails as well.

*Side Note
Most of their traditional breakfast sandwiches are greasy and tend to soak through the box, bag and napkin.

Staff:
We “accidentally” walked past the hostess and headed straight to the counter so I did not get to experience the initial greeting, but once we ordered and sat down she came over to make sure we were taking care of. The cashier was friendly and definitely helped us with our first time navigating the menu to find what would be the best dish. Even when they ran out of ingredients for my coffee order, she tried as best as she could to make it up to me. The bartender was friendly in a similar fashion and was able to get most people’s drink orders out relatively quickly.

Environment:
The restaurant was very modern and chic it have a main dining area that was off to the side and the wall was lined with two person seating bar tables. On the other side were picnic bench style seating that could fit a family of six. Then you had the bar with wrap around seating that could fit about 30 people and the upstairs dining area as well which provided more four person seating tables that could be combined.

Overall:
This is a great breakfast spot to grab a quick bite at before walking down to the beach or a great place to grab drinks at after a day in the sand.

COVID-19 UPDATE:
IN compliance with COVID-19 regulations all the staff were wearing masks and encouraged all customers to follow suit until they are seated. All tables were wiped down after each eating session and tables were spaced apart for social distance along with being equipped with plastic barriers.
