We were recommended Coyota Maya and so were surprised and almost put off when we walked into an empty restaurant. In fact, I wanted to leave! Anyway, the staff were so attentive and helpful (especially as I am a coeliac pescatarian). There was a cool guy playing and singing with his guitar quietly in the background which was really charming and brought a chilled vibe.
The food was delicious! Not as fussy with the presentation as other places we have been to but full of flavour and just right with the quantity. I had 4 fish tacos which were fresh and yummy. My husband had a pork dish recommended by the waiter which came with beans, salsa, habanero sauce and tacos so he could make them as he liked. He said they were full of flavour. Slowly the restaurant filled up with people and we were very glad we stayed. Tony was our waiter. Great evening. Thx

Staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly. Drinks were priced low and I swear that was the best margarita I’ve ever had. Made with real juice, generous on the tequila, but not in a way that hurts the taste.
Steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare. The burger was great too; very generous and seasoned perfectly.
The mariachi man was a nice touch; the atmosphere was great.

I am Lauren, the host of the We Are Mèrida social meetups. Our Tuesday social Meetup is held every Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Coyote Maya. A huge thank you to the excellent service by the servers at this restaurant and especially to Miguel the manager, who is professional, friendly and extremely accommodating to our very large Meetup group. The food is excellent and a good value. The restaurant is beautiful. And the location of the restaurant is perfect, right in the heart of Centro in Mérida. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Our server Miguel and the rest of the staff were very friendly and also helpful with our touristy questions. Food was great and the margaritas were excellent. Also the prices are very fair. Most main plate meals are about $20 Canadian.(circa 2026) A 3 piece band came in and serenaded us. Definitely check this place out.

What we got 4 shrimp tacos on soggy tortilla, it was precook shrimp without any marinade, a total of 4 shrimp cut into 4 pieces on each shrimp with some lettuce, a bowl sauce and tasteless salsa.
The people who gave this place a good review must have a terrible palate.
Street food is far superior, this is the worst I’ve had anywhere in the world.

My husband and came to this place on three different occasions. We so loved it. The food was so delicious. The wait staff was so kind. We definitely recommend this place. We had asked our waiter on what cenotes to go visit. He went out of his way to go get someone to book a tour.
We will definitely be coming back to this place the next time we return to Merida.
