It was a Saturday night so we headed over on the early side around 5:30pm because they don’t take reservations. There appeared to be a wedding party downstairs in what might be a function room.
We got on the waitlist but forgot to ask to be seated on the porch next to the river. When we saw how noisy the bar area was we asked if we could request the porch or wait until a table was available there, but they said once you’re on the list you can only take the next available. Which happened to be in the main dining area facing the porch.
The atmosphere is very casual and family-friendly, but very noisy. So not the best choice for a quiet, romantic dinner. We only had to wait about 10-15 minutes to be seated; I would have waited longer to sit on the porch, but it probably would have been noisy anywhere in the restaurant.
I had a lot of questions about menu items and the waitress was very patient and helpful. I asked about a cocktail I had seen on the website that was not on the printed menu. She checked to see if they could make it but was told they could not.
But the food was delicious! And prices were reasonable. My husband enjoyed his old-fashioned drink, and my Frisk Riesling wine was excellent. There were a lot of unusual and ethnic choices on the menu. My husband loved the pasta fattoria, which was a large serving with lots of tender chicken. I devoured the seafood bake. We got dessert to take with us, and let me tell you: the salted caramel vanilla crunch cake was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted – and I’m not the biggest dessert fan in the world!
Overall a very good experience and would recommend.
I had the fish tacos and the flavoring was perfect. My husband had the clam chowder and seafood bake and both were excellent.
I also had the Gin Blossom Martini which was wonderful . I will try to remake this back home
Plenty of parking. They don’t take reservations but we had no issues getting in around 6pm on a Monday night
Negatives: Service was mediocre. I will say they were busy – like extremely busy – on a Wednesday night. Lots of big parties. I think the waitress was frazzled which I do understand but being rude is not acceptable. All and all, I think it’s worth a stop. Most guests seem to have a positive experience.
The penne pasta from the kids’ menu was inedible—overcooked to the point of being mushy and flavorless. The biggest letdown was the Moroccan lamb, one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. The lamb had an extremely strange, unpleasant texture, and the couscous was just as bad—easily some of the worst food we’ve had at a restaurant. We left more than half of our meals untouched, yet the server didn’t even bother to ask how the food was.
Paying $120 for two adults and one child for food of this quality is unacceptable. You can get far better meals for that price almost anywhere else. This restaurant absolutely does not deserve a 4.6 rating especially which can’t even cook the pasta right.
Hailey was our server and was prompt, friendly, and attentive.
We were seated at a table overlooking river and covered bridge which was a real treat. The river was beautiful with the snow and ice.
Excellent dining experience!
