Absolutely incredible! So happy this new Thai spot opened in the neighborhood. The food is insanely good—fresh, flavorful, and unique. Every dish we tried was packed with amazing flavor. The service was just as impressive: warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. You can tell they really care about their customers.

Highly recommend checking this place out. A new favorite for sure!

Amazing Southern Thai food—better than what I’ve had in Thailand! Flavors and quality are top-notch. This is my second visit and I’ll definitely come back again. My kids love the squid with black sauce and the calamari. Everything was so delicious I even forgot to take photos of a couple more dishes. Great service from both the staff and the owner. Highly recommend!

Came here for a date night and absolutely loved each item we ordered. We got the Asian wraps with shrimp for starters and they were very fresh. For our mains we did the Koua Kling that was so flavorful and spicy as well as the sesame chicken which were perfectly crisp and balance out the spice from the Koua Kling very well. Would definitely come back to try other dishes!

A decent Thai spot in Lakeview with some hits & a few misses. The claypot glass noodles were the highlight – garlicky, flavorful, and satisfying with well-seasoned shrimp. The scallop curry had a pleasant coconut base but felt underwhelming with just a single scallop, and the grilled squid had good flavor but leaned a bit too chewy. The golden shrooms were also overly fried and felt heavy after a few bites. There was a delay due to an order mix-up, though the staff handled it graciously with complimentary drinks and dessert. Overall, a decent meal with some enjoyable bites, even if the overall executions felt a bit uneven.

We just discovered this place and wow was the food good. We ordered the dragon balls, fried mushrooms, crab curry, and pad thai and all of the dishes were perfectly seasoned and delicious. The pad thai might be the best in the city as far as we are concerned. The crab curry was loaded with lump crab meat. We went on a Monday night and the place was completely packed, so I do recommend making a reservation as the restaurant is not that large. Also note that they are byob, at least at this point. Based on the website, that might change at some point.

I’m very familiar with Thai food, especially with dishes from the Isan region. However, Southern Thai cuisine is something I haven’t explored much. And so, I was really curious to try Coup de Thai. The menu here is slightly smaller and more refined than their original location in Los Gatos, California.

While southern Thailand isn’t particularly known for any regional sausage, the Thai sausage here takes inspiration from the region’s bold flavors. The dish incorporated the southern red curry paste used in the region’s signature khua kling, which is a fiery, dry meat curry. And of course, it was only natural that we followed up with the khua kling itself. It had a pleasant level of heat and was bursting with flavors from all the aromatics. I especially loved how much lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf they packed in. The grilled squid came swimming in a rich, garlicky, savory and slightly sweet black ink sauce. It was good on its own but the accompanying green dipping sauce took this dish up a whole other level. With its spicy and tangy kick, it cut through the richness of the black ink sauce and gave the dish a refreshing brightness

The neighborhood already has a strong, diverse restaurant scene and while great new openings like Coup de Thai doesn’t exactly make deciding where to eat any easier, it surely is a good problem to have.

Coup de Thai is one of those rare restaurants that reminds you why dining out can be such a joyful and memorable experience. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re greeted not only by the inviting aromas of authentic Thai cuisine but also by the genuine warmth of the owners, Peung and Tong. Their kindness and hospitality fill the space, creating an atmosphere that feels personal and welcoming.

Peung and Tong are exceptional hosts—gracious, attentive, and sincerely invested in every guest’s experience. They take the time to greet diners personally and often stop by to share stories about their restaurant, their travels, and the inspiration behind their menu. Their dedication to quality and connection is evident in every aspect of Coup de Thai, from the food to the service to the thoughtful details that make each visit special.

The food presentation is beautiful, with each dish arranged with care and artistry. The colors, textures, and balance of every plate reflect both precision and pride. It’s clear that only the freshest ingredients are used, and that every element is thoughtfully prepared to create a meal that is as visually appealing as it is flavorful.

Every dish has its own character, offering layers of flavor that highlight the complexity and harmony of traditional Thai cooking. Each bite feels deliberate and balanced, with just the right mix of seasoning, aroma, and freshness. The consistency of quality is remarkable—every course feels as though it was prepared especially for you.

The decor perfectly complements the cuisine. Many of the decorations are sourced directly from Thailand, including intricate carvings, textiles, and artwork that give the space an elegant, authentic atmosphere. The lighting and layout add to the sense of calm and sophistication, making it a place where you can truly relax and enjoy your meal.

The entire staff deserves recognition for their professionalism and care. They are consistently respectful, attentive, and remarkably intuitive. Their timing is impeccable—they approach at just the right moments, ensuring that guests have everything they need without ever feeling interrupted. Each member of the team carries the same warmth and hospitality as the owners, creating a seamless and comfortable dining experience.

Coup de Thai is more than just a restaurant—it’s a reflection of the values and passion of the people behind it. Every detail, from the service to the presentation, demonstrates a commitment to excellence and authenticity. Dining here feels less like a transaction and more like being welcomed into a community built on respect, tradition, and genuine care.

If you’re looking for an experience that combines exceptional food, a beautiful atmosphere, and heartfelt hospitality, Coup de Thai is the perfect choice. It’s a place that nourishes both body and spirit, and one you’ll want to return to again and again.

This is a fantastic restaurant if you’re looking for great service and authentic Southern Thai cuisine. The chefs at Coup de Thai are experts at their craft and the flavors that they put in our dishes hit the spot. The spice levels of some of the dishes, while quite high, added to the delicious experience we had here.

They told us they opened a month ago with a new location in Chicago, as they started in California. My friend and I had no expectations since it was new and we just saw it one day on the street.

Needless to say the food was so delicious. My favorite was the curry crab and tom yum ceviche. The server was so nice, checking up on us all the time. The decor for the restaurant was really cute and very clean. I would definitely go back for the curry and ceviche as well as try new dishes on the menu!
