Cottage Hill Jamaican Grill Review

Cottage Hill Jamaican Grill did not disappoint. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside—seasoned just right. The veggies were flavorful and well-seasoned, not bland at all. The chicken patty tasted super fresh with a flaky crust, and the dumpling was soft, golden, and absolutely delicious. To top it off, the ginger juice was refreshing with the perfect kick. Everything was amazing from start to finish, and I’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommend if you’re craving authentic, comforting Jamaican food!

Curry goat was flavorful and soft. Rice and peas were on point. Surprisingly, the veggies were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Plantains were sweet and nicely fried. thought my mango ginger drink had way too much ginger. I would definitely go again and order the oxtails, jerk chicken and/or curry chicken roti.

Food is pretty solid especially for barely $8 on the lunch special you get a filling plate of food there’s nothing to complain about here. I will say maybe a bit light on the chicken but it’s fine. The rice is well seasoned and I quite enjoyed every bite. Very tasty stuff. They also have a nice variety of Jamaican drinks in the fridge too. My picture doesn’t do the food justice! I was too busy eating and forgot haha.

The service here is very fast, you could get a plate of food for barely over $8 in maybe 5 minutes max so if you’re in the area and short on time this is a great choice. The actual people doing the service here isn’t too great though honestly, the lady behind the counter doesn’t say too much really. I also factor in the price in service for my reviews, so I would give them 5 star price, 2 star service, evens out to 3 stars.

Atmosphere here is interesting. Tables are a bit tacky with glitter under epoxy with the Jamaican flag as colors, and it’s a bit simple. I wish there was more business here because with all of the lids closed on the food it’s not super inviting. They always have some nice reggae music playing. At first when I walked in I didn’t see anyone, customers or staff, and so I was pretty confused. The lady was on her phone behind the dessert case before she took my order, and after.

I may be a bit critical of random things here but overall it’s pretty good. I would come here again and I wish there was more business

I came to this place and they seem discriminate. Well not they too much the cook. The lady that takes your order isn’t friendly as well. If you sell your food one way sell it like that all the time. Don’t pick and choice how you want to sell you food. It’s your post. you could have made more money if you thought about it.

Sadly we ordered bbq jerk combo & stew and rice combo and instead we got dry chicken (no stew or seasoning) & the bbq jerk had no bbq after I asked. We got no sides (no cornbread or plantain) after requesting both. I had decent hopes after reading the other reviews, must be fake. Sadly, will not be returning bad first experience. I love Jerk pit but wanted to try something closer. Big mistake..

This is my second time giving this restaurant a try. The first time that I went, they were no beef patties available at around 5:30 in the evening. As you can see, they close at 8:30 PM. I was told by one of the owners, the woman serving at the front, that she will not be putting out any more to cook because of the time. So I left.

A couple of months go by and I decide to try this place one more time because I really wasn’t feeling well and I wanted some West Indian chicken soup. When I went in to the restaurant and she made eye-contact with me, I receive what I consider to be a very cold stare. She did not greet me with any enthusiasm when it was my time to be served but just gave me a look with a chin nod. I asked her if she had any soup available. She said yes. I ordered a LARGE chicken soup and a drink. She gave me the soup very hot in the container with a thin paper bag that almost burned my hand to the touch. When I got home and I looked at the soup in the container, I noticed that there wasn’t much of anything in it. Many Caribbean soups are very filling because they have what are called “ground food“ such as potatoes, yams, carrots, noodles, to make it nice and thick. However, this soup was not like that. To my surprise there were not many pieces of chicken in the soup. I was very shocked to see that they gave me a CHICKEN BACK CUT IN SMALL PEICES with no meat on it. I paid almost $11 for the soup with no pieces of actual meat in it?? In the soup, one dumpling, one small piece of yam and a few pieces of carrots, which was the usual serving for a small size. I was expecting my portion to be double because it was a large. I will not be back to this place neither will I recommend them. This was an abuse of authority and preparation for a customer. The attitude of the woman that works there is very cold, unfriendly and unwelcoming. She never smiles, she looks like she doesn’t want to be there and I am just so disappointed. This is unacceptable for ethnic food from the Caribbean.

We were staying at the Best Western and saw it from our window. We got the curry goat and jerk pork. Both came with rice and veggies(that’s what we picked). Large was a lot of food, reasonably priced.

I liked them when I first started going there, then the service changed. I always order roti and now I get nothing but dough and very few ingredients. My last order had 2 very small pieces of chicken, no peas or carrots and 2 small potatoes. The roti was so thin that it broke at the bottom and left a hole on my plate. So mad I wasted $15 on bread. I have complained about their lack of consistency with their Roti. I guess it depends on who makes it and that shouldn’t be. The recipe should be the same each time. Also, the staff is not friendly and give an attitude when you ask a question. I will no longer patronize them and will go elsewhere. Mad I couldn’t give less than 1 star.

They are thieves . I ordered a LARGE pan of jerk chicken . They charged me for a LARGE pan of jerk chicken and when my friend went to pick the order up they only made a HALF of a pan . Didn’t even want to give any sauce with it . When I spoke to the lady I ordered from she said they ran out of the “long” pans but swore up and down this was a large. Instead of lying, and making excuses. Why not give me TWO half of pans to make up for it? Instead of stealing money and not giving what the customer PAID for? The photos speaks for itself.

My husband and I have been loyal customers of this Jamaican restaurant since it first opened. We’ve always loved the food and appreciated the warm, welcoming service—especially from the owner and the friendly lady with the curly perm. We joked about the porridge not been ready because she had to sweetened it

Unfortunately, our experience has changed since a new staff member (an American-sounding woman) began working there. From the beginning, we noticed a shift in the atmosphere. She consistently comes across as unfriendly, dismissive, and at times downright rude. Her attitude makes it uncomfortable to place an order, and we now find ourselves trying to avoid her whenever we visit.

Today, I had no choice but to interact with her, as the other lady wasn’t working. After placing my order, she told me to have a seat and that I would be called when my food was ready. I said I’d prefer to watch what she was putting on my plate because there are certain items I don’t want. She laughed and repeated her instruction, dismissing my concern. When I insisted not to sit, she became loud and confrontational.

Thankfully, the owner stepped in to help. While I was explaining the situation to her, the staff member continued to talk over me—despite the owner asking her to remain calm. At one point, when I told her I wasn’t speaking to her but to the owner, she shouted, “Well, I am talking to you!”—completely ignoring the owner’s efforts to deescalate the situation.

It’s disheartening to see such a wonderful place start to decline due to one person’s attitude. I’ve noticed other recent reviews echo similar sentiments, and I hope the management takes these concerns seriously. We truly want to continue supporting this business, but respectful customer service should always be a priority.
