I was really excited to try Cotoa and it did not disappoint! We had a lovely family dinner there Sunday night. The ambiance and decor of the space is cozy but still sophisticated. I appreciated all the little touches, especially the various hooks and small tables for purses and bags (why doesn’t everyone do this?).

Unfortunately the kitchen was out of some foods due to some sort of delivery issue (they called and told us in advance) so there were various dishes we were not able to try, but the ones we did order were all delicious. I really loved the goat empanadas and the blue crab salad served with giant tostones, but truly not a bad bite in the bunch.

The service was also excellent and attentive. Our servers Emilio and Aldo were super helpful and on top of everything we needed to make the meal a success. Our wine glasses were never empty and they even made my very exacting father impressed!

Bonus- the location in North Miami also a huge plus for me. Obviously will be back eventually to try the dishes we missed. Thank you!

COTOA is, point blank period, the best dining experience in Miami. I moved here in October, and it has quickly become my favorite hidden gem! Every visit is nothing short of amazing. As the daughter of an Ecuadorian immigrant, nothing makes me feel closer to my heritage than this place…it truly brings a piece of home to Miami. Between the incredible atmosphere and the pan de yuca that I crave constantly, it really does feel like family. The service is on another level. I’ve eaten at many Michelin-starred restaurants, but COTOA is hands-down the best experience I’ve had in the guide. Chef Alejandra is so kind and her mission to champion underrepresented Ecuadorian cuisine is inspiring. Special shoutout to Alison and Aldo, who are the absolute best they even remember me and my soy allergy when I go in! As someone who developed this allergy later in life, having a team that genuinely cares makes a world of difference. Every friend and family member I’ve brought here has literally shed a tear over the food they say COTOA made their entire trip worth it. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Cotoa was an amazing experience from start to finish. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The steak was perfectly cooked and paired so well with the crispy potatoes and fresh cucumber salad. The appetizers were creative and delicious, especially the cassava bread.

Dessert was the perfect ending, the warm chocolate cake with the fruity ice cream was incredible. The drinks, atmosphere, and service were all top tier.

You can really tell the chefs put a lot of care into every dish. If you’re looking for a unique and memorable dining experience, Cotoa is definitely worth visiting. Highly recommend!

I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for quite some time, as my boyfriend is Ecuadorian and I have a deep appreciation for Ecuadorian cuisine. Cotoa truly exceeded my expectations. The flavors are vibrant and authentic, and the ceviche captures the genuine essence and unmistakable taste of Ecuador.

Aldo and Allison made the experience even more memorable with their warm and attentive service. They thoughtfully recommended their standout dishes and ensured everything was perfect throughout our visit. The combination of exceptional food and outstanding hospitality makes this restaurant a solid 10/10. I highly recommend it.

We had such a good experience at Cotoa, the service was top notch, the ambience was cozy and quaint. The food was excellent, everything was so delicious and felt like it was cooked with elevated authenticity behind it. This restaurant deserves all the hype it’s getting. My server was really helpful to review all the items for my gluten and dairy sensitivity and they were able to make some substitutions to accommodate which was really nice.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 20/10 — hands down!

As an Ecuadorian, I can confidently say that COTOA is an absolute gem. From the customer service to the food, everything was outstanding.

I visited with my husband (he’s American and enjoys Ecuadorian food), but Cotoa made him completely fall in love with it. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed like family. Our server, ALDO, was incredible — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. He recommended the best dishes from the start and went above and beyond helping me choose options that worked for me since I have a gluten intolerance.

We decided to order all the appetizers (because they all looked amazing ), and for our main dishes we had the snapper and the cangrejada — absolutely delicious, authentic, and perfectly prepared.

To make the night even more special, it was my birthday and Aldo surprised me with a dessert, which truly meant so much . I was left speechless.

The service, the music, the atmosphere, and the food — everything was spectacular.
If you’re in Florida and haven’t been to Cotoa yet, trust me: your taste buds are missing out on one of the best restaurants in the state.

Highly recommend! ✨ ️

My dad was born in Ecuador, and so were my mom’s parents, so we recently made the drive down from West Palm to visit Cotoa. We were super excited to try it as it’s not every day an Ecuadorian restaurant is recognized by Michelin.

It ended up being one of the most fun and delicious dinners we’ve had in a long time. The restaurant feels intimate and laid-back enough to be comfortable, yet still elevated in all the right ways. Ecuador was present in the ingredients, the flavors, and the overall essence of the space.

I loved it so much that I’ve already made reservations in the new year to bring my parents — I can’t wait for them to experience it.

Having visited Cuenca and Quito a couple weeks ago, we were eager to try Cotoa , which is a small, quaint and bright reflection of Ecuador. Led by Chef Alejandra Espinoza, it is the first Ecuadorian restaurant in the U.S. to be included in the Michelin Guide, and telling by the amazing experience, the recognition is well-deserved.
The menu elevates traditional staples we had in Cuenca and Quito into colorful, vibrant culinary creations.
For starter we tried the Pollo Encocado Empanadas. A pair of green Plantain empanadas, perfectly crispy, not grease and a mild coconut flavored chicken. We also had to try the Humita de la Abuela, (a staple in Ecuadorian cuisine) a cornbread loaf served with aromatic palo santo butter.
We shared The Cangrejada con Patacon, blue crab over sweet plantain on cocolon (that is the hard rice, called “pegao” or “concon”) swimming in a tomato-based broth, that was artfully presented. It comes with two crispy tostones. The dish showcases a deep complexity and many layered flavors.Amazing dish!
Sadly, we had no room for dessert but are counting the days to come back (it is an hour drive from home) and try other dishes.
The space is bright and playful, utilizing a palette of orange, green, and natural stone. It feels like a “warm embrace,” making it perfect for both romantic dates and cozy family dinners.
Hospitality is consistently described as “warm and unrushed”. Miguel and the whole staff are knowledgeable and treat guests like family.
The space is intimate (seating around 24), thus reservations are highly recommended.

I went to Cotoa today and honestly didn’t know what to expect since it was my first time having Ecuadorian food — but wow, this ended up being one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.

Every single dish we ordered was incredible. The flavors were bold but balanced, beautifully presented, and you could tell a lot of thought and care went into each plate. Nothing felt repetitive or heavy; everything just worked. Even dishes I wouldn’t normally gravitate toward completely surprised me in the best way.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was attentive without being overbearing, and the pricing felt more than fair for the quality and creativity of the food. It’s one of those places where you leave already thinking about what you want to order next time.

If you’ve never tried Ecuadorian cuisine, this is the perfect introduction — and even if you have, Cotoa absolutely sets the bar high. I’ll definitely be back. I’m still thinking about the pan de yuca and hanger steak

We had an absolutely delicious experience at Cotoa and will definitely be returning. Every dish we tried was fantastic, but the dark chocolate lava cake truly stole the show. It was hands down the best dessert I’ve ever had.

The langostinos were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection, and we also loved the croquettes and queso empanadas. The wine was also excellent and paired beautifully with my meal.

There was a couple seated next to us who seemed displeased with their steak and ended up leaving, but honestly, the steak looked beautifully cooked to us, which made the situation a bit surprising.

The restaurant and kitchen are small, so a wait is to be expected, but it’s well worth it for the quality and experience.

Lastly, Emilio, our waiter, provided great service and had excellent recommendations that really elevated our meal. Overall, Cotoa delivered an outstanding experience from start to finish, and we can’t wait to come back.
