Nice, attentive staff and welcoming atmosphere. Food a bit hit or miss. Onion soup really lovely and well seasoned; burger overcooked, dry and bland; other dishes (pictured) were average

What a lovely restaurant! I tried their onion soup, and it was simply outstanding — rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. You could really taste the care and freshness in every spoonful. The atmosphere was cozy, the staff were friendly, and the service was quick. I’ll definitely be coming back to enjoy it again. Highly recommended!

We have visit Cote in January and what we can say….Delicious food, served hot, and incredibly friendly, helpful staff. We couldn’t decide which starters to choose, but thanks to a great recommendation, we had the best onion soup ever! A must-visit place in Exeter.

Food….Fairly average overall. One of our gnocchi servings could have been hotter. The filling in the ‘special’ bourguignion burger was quite tasty but served with a cheap small, pre cut bun- The accompanying frites portion was also small and whilst a top up was forthcoming it would have been better having a bigger portion. Also the mash with the beef bourguignion appeared powdery. Generally the portions were small.
Service…was OK just. The waitress, although friendly, was fairly slow to take our drinks order. It wasn’t her fault, more the set up of the place, as she appeared to be the only one covering our floor. We were never asked how our meals were. Also this is yet another business that has moved to not taking cash…….so annoying. Had we not been in a group of 6 we would have gone elsewhere. And to top it off they automatically assume that the customer feels this is worth a 10% tip.
Atmosphere…..A large building and despite being a Friday evening not very many customers.
Will not be back

Service was smooth and effortless, the staff were really friendly and accommodating with seating preferences, very tasty food the chefs are excellent, the waiter didn’t hover which is rare and always appreciated, we never felt bothered and thoroughly enjoyed the food! The views are beautiful as well as it’s across the cathedral. This is definitely added to our stops whenever we visit Exeter.

The atmosphere is elegantly luxurious, with a warm and sophisticated vibe that makes you feel special from the moment you step inside. The service is impeccable — attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. A perfect spot for anyone looking to indulge in an exceptional meal in a beautiful setting.

I don’t know who’s running Côte Brasserie these days, but clearly the soul has left the building — probably chased out by an accountant with a stopwatch and a bag of frozen chips.

I’ve loved Côte for years. Proper French brasserie vibes, good food, consistency — the kind of place you could rely on.
Now? It’s like the chain has been body-snatched by the catering team from a motorway service station.

For £30, I was served a “steak frites” that looked like a GCSE food tech project the teacher passed out of pity.
A sad, lonely steak.
A handful of pale, apologetic chips.
Not a garnish, herb, or even a flirtatious wisp of parsley in sight.
The sauce pot looked like it had been dropped, kicked, and then given to me as a dare.

This is Wetherspoon’s energy, but with Parisian prices — a truly bold business model.

And let me be VERY clear:
The staff did their best. They were lovely.
This disaster is not on them — it’s on whoever at Côte HQ decided the brand should now serve food that tastes like a divorce settlement.

Côte used to be gorgeous, elegant, dependable.
Now it feels like a chain going through a midlife crisis — cost-cutting everything except the bill.

If Côte has changed management, been bought out, or undergone some secret culinary lobotomy, someone needs to say it. Because longtime customers like me are staring at our plates thinking:

“What in the absolute hell happened here?”

Sort it out. Bring the old Côte back. Before the only thing left is the accent mark.
