the second time i had Rigatoni bianco di napoli , very good
That said, all of the appetizers are really good, great for sharing, and the desserts are just as solid and absolutely worth ordering.
You can tell there’s real care behind the ingredients and the cooking, without overcomplicating things.
A place I’d happily return to, whether for a relaxed dinner or a night out with friends.
Highly recommended.
Pleasantly surprised by this not so hidden gem in Jersey city (the heights).
I walked into Corto for an early lunch & it was well worth the drive.
I snagged a seat at the pasta bar & got a front row view of the chefs prepping and working their magic in the kitchen.
This simply designed small restaurant is very cozy, offers comfortable seating, and also has a very nice outdoor patio set up in the back of the restaurant.
I tried the Ricotta & honey toast that was spectacular. All the ingredients tasted fresh and blended together perfectly.
The ricotta gnocchi was DELICIOUS, every bite was better than the last was not drenched in sauce & the meat complimented it so well.
The citrus olive oil cake with strawberry jam was truly the perfect way to end my meal. A light but dense cake that had freshly made jam & whipped cream was a knock out treat.
The service was welcoming & top notch. Not only did both servers come to check how the meal was going, the chef also checked on me periodically being that I was seated right in front of the kitchen, leaving me to enjoy my meal but when they did (pop in) they were very informative & gave me little bits of information on each dish that I had.
To keep it short, Corto is a neighborhood gem tucked into the heights that everyone all over the city (or state) should know of & visit at least once.
I look forward to visiting in the VERY NEAR future.
The host was great, but our server wasn’t.
I asked about the alcohol in the dishes because I’m pregnant, I wanted to make sure it’s evaporated with the cooking process. She kinda brushed me off a bit and I felt I was getting lectured. Somehow she seemed ticked off that I asked? For dessert, I wanted espresso but asked if they have decaf. They don’t, that’s fine. The server responded to me with “I didn’t give up coffee when I was pregnant”. I told her I didn’t either. Why are you assuming that? You don’t know me. It was 7 PM and I don’t want to be awake past my bedtime. I ordered the espresso which did not come at the same time as the dessert. We had to ask for it to be brought over.
The women who work there had long nails. I have my Servsafe manager certification. From a food safety standpoint long nails is a no-no.
Bonus: Ana the server recommended we try The Alps, a cocktail restaurant nearby before heading home. What a perfect suggestion and a great find. We will duplicate this evening many times in the future now that we’re nearby residents.
I had to email their event coordinator to set up the reservation. Their reservations over 6 people operate as a family style multi-course meal that they choose, with a flat fee per person (the cost was extremely reasonable for the amount of food we got!) They got the rez set up very quickly and took note of dietary restrictions in advance.
It was really great because we ended up getting to try most of the menu offerings! Everything tasted amazing and there was more than enough food for everyone, with a variety of options for everyone’s palette. We absolutely loved every dish they brought!
It was a really special dinner, made even more so by the level of service and care from the team. They even brought me a birthday card signed by the whole staff.
Thank you Corto!!! ❤️
The space is cozy, casual, and has a very warm neighborhood feel. One of the best parts is that it’s BYOB, so you can bring your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. Perfect for a relaxed date night or dinner with friends.
The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to explain the dishes and make you feel at home. Definitely a spot I’d recommend if you’re in Hoboken , just make a reservation because it gets busy!
My son ordered an assortment of cheese/salumi and a crisp salad to start. Tasty rigatoni and a rich mushroom pasta (strozzapreti- my fave dish of the night) followed and a spicy, succulent chicken ended the meal.
Tables were rarely empty and guests (including some taking food to-go) seemed truly happy to be there. The only sticker shock was just how reasonable the bill was.
P.S. I wish more restaurants had a BYOB policy. Reservations are a necessity.
We got the angry chicken, pork shoulder, allll the pastas ( cause why have 1 when you can have 5), the watermelon salad, the burrata, and the ricotta honey toast.
