We decided to stop here for lunch based on a recommendation from a friend. We ordered a fried mahi sandwich that came with fries and a bowl of their daily special which was Fisherman’s Stew. Add a coke and a beer and the bill came to $40 before the tip. The sandwich was very oily like the filet hadn’t been drained properly after coming out of the deep fryer. It was edible but only after removing most of the breading. The fries were pretty good. The Fisherman’s stew was a small bowl of soup with a few small chucks of fish and some cut up vegetables. It didn’t make for much of a lunch and I left hungry. Overall it was a disappointing experience and we won’t be going back. They have a full bar, inside and outside seating and free parking. The service was OK and even though they advertise being on the water, you’re sandwiched between a couple of buildings and there isn’t much of a view. Two stars.

Carter the chef always serves perfection. My husband usually has to drive to the Keys to get anything close to as good! I had the shrimp bowl. Unbelievable! Forced myself to save some for later. Service was great too.

Cortez Kitchen is truly a hidden gem! When you first pull up, it might look like a little hole-in-the-wall spot, but don’t let that fool you—it ended up being the best restaurant I visited on Anna Maria Island.

Our server, Michael, was absolutely amazing—friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond. I had never tried clams before, and she made a special effort to bring me a couple just so I could experience them. Turns out…they were delicious!

Every single bite of food was excellent. The grouper was fresh and perfectly prepared, the drinks were top-notch, and you can tell everything is fresh caught right there. The entire meal was outstanding from start to finish.

If you’re in the area, don’t miss this spot. Cortez Kitchen completely exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to come back

This is one of my favorite places on the west coast of Florida. It is part of the old Florida that seems to be disappearing as more and more of our waterfront is developed with condominiums.

The setting is great it is adjacent to a fish packing house and occasionally. If your timing is right, you’ll see the fish being loaded onto semi trucks.

It is set back a little from the bay.

That is actually a benefit because it means there are fewer tourists.

Not that I have anything against tourists, it’s just that during the season all of my favorite places tend to get rather busy. I’m not used to the long wait to be seated and so forth.

Cortez kitchen does not get overcrowded during the season because it is adjacent to the water but it does not have a full view of the bay .

I mostly come here for the music and the people. It tends to have a very local crowd mingled with a few tourists. The locals like myself often stay for several hours. Just hanging out and enjoying the vibe.

It’s hard to describe what you have to experience it.

One final point. Everyone who works here is fantastic. They work very hard and don’t mind if you occupy a seat while nursing a beer and munching on some french fries. If you decide to do that, please be sure to tip them generously. Places like this will not exist long unless we remember to appreciate the people who make it possible.

We drove from St Pete to eat here, because my Dad likes it. The menu was different than he remembered. The waitress (table 17,around 6ish, light brown hair and a “memorable ” smile finally came for our order. I looked at the kid menu there was nothing in stating an age limit. I ordered fish/fries kid meal. After about an hour of waiting with no check in from the waitress the food arrives. Mine is cold. I say “this is really cold” she said “oh can I take it back?” I said no, because we cant wait any longer Ill just eat it (it was cold amd dark by this time. I then asked “didnt this come with a drink? can I have a diet coke?” and she said….
(smirking) “Its a kid meal..yes it does but you aren’t supposed to order that it is for kids”
I said I didnt see that there was an age limit posted on the menu..she replied “Well its called Little Guppies”
– If I wasn’t able to order that, why didnt she say that when I gave her my order. I would’ve had an app or something small instead. I wasn’t super hungry, I was there to be with family. I have a job, I can afford to get what I want off the menu..why not say “sorry, that menu is for 10 and under” instead of bringing me the food then getting a stank attitude when I ask for the soda it comes along with?
We asked for.the bill immediately so we didnt have to wait another hour to pay. She had my food taken off the bill because it was cold.
I tipped her 20% off the amount of the bill before she took mine off.
Nobody needs her ridiculous attitude. We aren’t coming back so dont worry.. Enjoy your 8 bucks lady, you deserved ZERO, but Im not a jerk so I gave you 20% you didnt deserve.

We ended up here because the wait at swordfish was absurd. I had the chicken with the coconut rice. I’m still thinking about the coconut rice if I’m being honest. I would go back just for that. They also have hush puppies which are always a hit. The mango margarita was strong and delicious. It’s a cute little hole in the wall. The service was good as was the food. We’ll be back.
If you think this place is expensive, please look at swordfish’s menu.

Great place right on the dock… not on the beaten path and a bit of a local joint… bustling commercial fishing facility with a great restaurant/ bar on the deck… can get breezy on cooler days but they often have live music.
Great clam chowder. Grouper sandwich never disappoints and plenty of cold drink options.. never disappointed with this place.

Dining at the Cortez Kitchen gave us a nice vacation like, waterfront dining experience. Live music, grouper bites, fried shrimp Buffalo style, grouper dinner and great drinks. The tables are close to each other and that makes for a tight challenge to leave and return to your table, but we were happy to be there enjoying everything else.
