My family and I went in the freezing cold to get some good soul food and they did not disappoint. Everything was delicious, especially their fried chicken, yum! This was our first time and we will definitely be back.

A delicious hidden gem! It’s easy to get caught up in all the good food of Montclair but for southern comfort, this is your spot! We got the 3 piece and 2 side which was more than enough food. Mac & cheese was a must, collard green were delicious, yams tasted like Thanksgiving! Chicken had a thin layer of crispy breading which was perfect and so flavorful. We also got the Uptown tea which was their mix of homemade sweet tea and lemonade, so good. But the star of the show is the cornbread. It absolutely did not disappoint. Simona took our orders and she was just the sweetest. They are also open every day of the year including holidays!

Honestly, I was shocked. The food was so good. The whitings were amazing. My husband isn’t crazy about fish but he LOVED the whitings. He finished my plate and his plate. I hope this place gets the attention it deserves. The epitome of comfort food.

Upon arrival we received a warm welcome by Simone, she was very helpful for our first time trying Cornbread. My mom sister and I ordered three meals with drinks, coming out to be an average of $24 a person, which we don’t mind since we love supporting local businesses everywhere.
The pork ribs which were tender were literally falling of the bones paired great with the Mac and cheese and yams. The baked chicken was fantastic with yellow rice. The fried chicken went well with some ketchup and hot sauce you can ask with your food. While the lemonade was really good, my favorite drink was the uptown I’m glad I ordered it.
We took an apple cobbler and peach cobbler to go with a second uptown on our way out.
Again Simone was very warm, kind, and helpful proving anything we needed during my family’s and I first visit. Highly recommended and when you do visit don’t forget to leave a review they deserve every good word!

Service is excellent very picky when it comes to soul food but when I smelled the food from outside had to stop lol so recommend this spot so much I’m writing a review! Had the fish Mac and peach cobbler best in town I swear!! First time here great experience people. Will come eat again my new soul food spot!!

The restaurant, service and food were beyond excellent! The oxtail were falling off the bones (tendernism, lol) and I can’t forget that scrumptious cornbread (chef’s kiss). Me and my children cleaned our plates; excellent eats! Can’t wait to go back.

It was a warm and inviting environment. The manager was an amazing conversationist who felt like family. The presentation of the food was great along with the food portions which were just right. I am having a food coma right now. I would definitely recommend others to dive into the experience and try it for themselves.

This place is so yummy! I had the catfish, yams, greens, peach cobbler, cornbread, and lemonade and it did not disappoint. Simone was extremely great at curating my parties orders and she was easy on the eyes. It’s no Texas soul food but it got the job done!
