Reviews
For sides, I tried a few different dishes:
Mac and cheese: Really good, creamy, and comforting.
String beans: Flavorful, though a little on the salty side.
Rice and gravy: Simple but very good, the gravy tied everything together perfectly.
Overall, this meal definitely hit the comfort food and soul food spot. Great flavors, tender ribs, and budget-friendly pricing made the whole experience worth it. I’d happily order this again.
Service was fantastic. Best part? Seeing Corinne herself! Looking ‘fly’ as ever, chatting up memories of ‘back in the day’, Holmes Lounge memories, dancing to wee hours in the morning. This place remains a historic gem and significant to memories black patrons (particularly) can trace their own memories of food they GrandMama, Mama, Aunties, Uncles prepared with loving hands. Thank you Corinne and staff for a great afternoon, may the history and legacy live on ❤️❤️
However, it seems like somebody else is making decisions about consistency when I went 2 weeks ago.I ordered 2 of my longtime staples: a catfish platter and a smothered pork chop platter.
1. Catfish platter: This was not Ms. Corrine’s recipe. The pieces were a good size, but it was fried dark and was salty. Before this, you could blindfold me, and I could identify Corrine’s fish. I couldn’t eat it.
2. Smothered Pork Chop platter: I took one bite, and it was a strange almost metallic taste. Super strange. I immediately stopped. This was really bad. I threw it away immediately.
3. Sides: The sides were still great. Rice & gravy and cabbage still tasted the same.
After my experience, I spoke to a few of my family members. They told me their experience was the same, and they stopped going as well.
I hate writing this review. Ms. Corrine and her wonderful family created a soul food legacy. The people who took over need to trust the empire she built because it never failed her.
Food Quality & Taste
Let’s start here because this is the heart of the experience. The food was delicious. The kind of delicious that makes you pause mid-bite and smile. Everything tasted like home–like your mom or grandmom was in the kitchen, apron on, seasoning from the soul. We had the mac and cheese, potato salad, and cabbage, and everything delivered comfort, warmth, and love. And listen… Mom has already requested a return trip, which should tell you everything you need to know. Cuz my Momma don’t play about her food.
Value for the Price
Let’s face it soul food aint cheap. Plus, you’re not just paying for food–you’re paying for an experience that feeds your spirit as much as your stomach.
Cleanliness
The space was clean, well-kept, and inviting. Cozy without feeling cramped, and comfortable in a way that makes you want to sit, eat, and take it all in.
Customer Service
Warm. Friendly. Genuine. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. And the highlight? Meeting the owner, Ms. Corinne herself. She and my mom talked like they were old friends catching up, which honestly felt very on-brand for this place.
Wait Time & Convenience
No issues here. Parking is street parking–very similar to parking on a busy Philly street, so nothing shocking or stressful if you’re used to city life. Once inside, everything flowed smoothly. We were seated quickly.
Presentation & Atmosphere
The atmosphere is intimate, cozy, and full of history. Pictures line the walls–Ms. Corinne, her family, and famous faces–which makes the space feel personal and lived-in. It’s the kind of place where stories live in the walls.
Red Flags or Warnings
No real red flags. Just know it’s an intimate setting–not huge–but honestly, anyone can come in and enjoy it comfortably.
Overall:
Corinne’s Place is more than a restaurant–it’s a memory, a feeling, and a reminder of what good food is supposed to do. It fills you up, warms you, and makes you want to come back.
My stamp on this place is… “Mass appeal.”
Perfect for family, solo visits, out-of-town guests, or anyone craving a real taste of home.
I made sure to visit Corrine’s Place three times before writing this review to truly gauge the consistency in service and quality—and I’m so glad I did. Each visit was a heartwarming experience, thanks to the owner, Ms. Corrine, who made my guests and me feel like part of her family. Her genuine spirituality and passion for hospitality shine through from the moment you walk in the door.
The food is nothing short of exceptional. After three visits and sampling a wide variety of dishes with seven different guests, I can confidently say that Corrine’s Place is a gem for soul food lovers. My personal favorite is the whiting paired with candy yams and black-eyed peas—it’s a perfect harmony of flavors. I’ve also tried the green beans, collard greens, cabbage, and macaroni and cheese, all of which are outstanding examples of classic soul food. Every guest who joined me left thoroughly satisfied and eager to return.
If I had to offer one critique, it would be the iced tea. I’m not sure what brand is used, but it doesn’t quite match the high standard of the rest of the meal. Lipton’s or freshly brewed tea with lemon would elevate the experience, especially when paired with such authentic Southern dishes.
Despite this small note, Corrine’s Place has earned my loyalty. The food is delicious, the service is warm and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere feels like home. I’ll definitely be returning and bringing more friends and family to support this wonderful business. If you’re in Camden and craving soul food made with love, Corrine’s Place is a must-visit!
