We had heard from friends about the wine club so we had to sign up for it. Can’t wait to get our first 2 bottles.
When you walk in you are walking into their retail wine store which offers wine by the bottle as well as wine tasting. You have to walk through the retail area to get to the restaurant. They only sell the wines they make and they have over 70 different types in their portfolio. Also, you cannot buy their wines in the store, only at their restaurants.
We were there for Happy Hour (M-F 3-5:30) and our server, Tanya, was the best. She was very knowledgeable with a fun and energetic personality that added to our experience. We enjoyed our complementary wine samples as well as a full glass and one of their Nightjar Old Fashioneds.
For food we had their shaved prime sliders, the crispy barbacoa quesadilla and smoked salmon spread. All 3 were phenomenal and great happy hours choices.
Their regular menu looks incredible as well with reasonably priced items. We will definitely be going back time and again.
However, I do want to share some honest feedback about our experience. My friend and I dine at places like Fleming’s and Hyde Park regularly, and unfortunately the food that evening was not on the level we were expecting. The salad was not quite on point, and the drinks seemed a bit off as well. Even our waitress mentioned that the bar area was having some issues and that they were working through a few things.
That said, we understand that new operations sometimes have small quirks that need to be worked out, and I’m sure those will improve with time.
One thing that did surprise us a bit was that when we asked why the manager had not stopped by the table, we were told he had taken a small amount off the bill. To be honest, that wasn’t our concern—we weren’t looking for a discount or free drinks. As business owners ourselves, we simply value the personal touch and the opportunity for management to check in with guests.
We genuinely hope things improve because the staff was wonderful and the atmosphere was welcoming. There is strong competition in the area, especially with Capital Grille next door, so we hope to see Cooper’s Hawk succeed and continue growing.
We will certainly give it another try and wish the team the very best moving forward.
God bless.
My party was waited on by the lovely Ms. Tasia. She was so personable and a great representation for the establishment. In addition Claire the manager stopped by to welcome us as well. I can’t wait to get acquainted with the staff here as this location was closer to my home.
The space is beautiful and the atmosphere felt welcoming. My husband and I sat at the bar, and our bartender was friendly. However, as a chef and a true foodie, I love when servers are excited about the menu. When I ask for recommendations, I’m hoping to hear what the chef is proud of, what guests are loving, or even what the staff personally enjoys. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much enthusiasm or guidance when I asked. It felt more like “I’m just here to bartend,” which was disappointing because I would have happily ordered more if someone had really sold the menu.
Our cocktail was excellent. The crispy Brussels sprouts were good, but there were far too many cashews and the sauce didn’t quite complement the dish. The jambalaya needed significantly more sauce as well.
One small note: bread was not offered until we were almost finished eating. Bread at the beginning of the meal—especially when guests are enjoying cocktails—is always a nice touch and really helps set the tone.
The biggest issue was timing. The food took quite a long time to come out, even though the bar area was fairly empty when we arrived. There was only one other guest sitting at the bar, and he was also mentioning that he had been waiting a long time for his soup. Because this is a brand-new location, I’m assuming these are just grand-opening kinks that still need to be worked out.
Overall, I’m very hopeful for this location. The restaurant is beautiful and appears well staffed. I would just encourage the team to really learn the menu and how to describe the dishes with excitement. One idea: let staff taste the menu regularly so they can confidently recommend items to guests.
I will absolutely be back with my family and look forward to seeing this location hit its stride.
We finally got to join the wine club since we now have a location close to us and look forward to more visits!
