THIS IS THE BEST SMOKED BRISKET AND EGGS THAT I EVER HAD!!! – complimented with GF bread!!I cannot believe this little gem of a restaurant belongs all to Springfield!! The restaurant understands levels of gluten intolerances and offer tons GF choices. They have a DEDICATED FRYER!!! I can’t wait to return for their GF battered fish!! Cook’s is now my best and favorite restaurant ever!

Cook’s Spice Rack & Chili on North Grand: A Must-Try!
I just had to share my thoughts on Cook’s Spice Rack & Chili on North Grand in Springfield, Illinois. What an absolutely amazing find!
I stopped in and grabbed some of their vegetable beef soup, and I was seriously amazed—that soup was the best! It was so good, I cleaned the dish completely.
Beyond the incredible food, the place has such a clean atmosphere, which I really appreciate. The employees are friendly and welcoming, and the owner is amazing. You can tell they put a lot of care into what they do.
I truly recommend this place to anybody looking for great food and a welcoming spot. Go check it out!

Absolutely amazing little place, nice and cozy. The little signs everywhere are funny and add to the loving atmosphere. The staff are also really nice. It also didn’t take much time at all to get food out, maybe a 15 minute wait or less I would say. The biscuits and gravy I got were really good. The biscuits were nice and fluffy with a little bit of a crunch, and the gravy was… Gravy lol. It was amazing gravy though, would just add a little more sausage to it in my opinion.

One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. My husband is in Springfield temporarily for work. We stopped in for lunch based on the good reviews. I ordered the ribeye sandwich. It was a small piece of ribeye, not sliced, on a bun. That’s it. No condiments, no garnish or veggies, no cheese, just a piece of meat on a bun. The meat was so tough I could barely take a bite. It did not taste like it had any seasoning. I’m really not a picky eater but I could not eat it. My husband ordered the brisket melt which had a small amount of dry brisket that tasted like it had been refrigerated and reheated, a very thin slice of cheese and onions. The fries were good, the service was great and friendly and the place is super cute. The server did take the ribeye sandwich off the ticket and was very nice about it. We were happy with how it was handled so kudos for that.

Family owned and operated, wonderful options of home cooking at reasonable prices. Cozy, friendly staff and regulars. It’s hard to decide what to get because everything looks good. I had fried Blue Gill because where else can you get that?!?! Reminded me of when my dad and I used to go fishing. Breakfast all day! A chili sampler! In house smoked meats! Perfectly cooked fish! Homemade pies! Yes please!!!

My wife and I have been to Cook’s Spice Rack before a few times and have always been pleased. The food was great and the seating area was clean and bright. I had the sausage omelet with home fries and the jalapeno toast, while the jalapeno toast was good it wasn’t worth the extra dollar as I didn’t taste any spiciness from the jalapeno.
My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, french fries with coleslaw, she said the pork was just a bit dry but still good.
We certainly will be going back as you know you will get a great meal for a good price.

We ate breakfast here. Cozy, yummy, fun decor. Lots of veggies on the menu, which was not expected, and they can accommodate those on gluten-free diets. Very reasonable prices. Our waiter had a great sense of humor. I found the food to be …. bland. The service and atmosphere were good, though.

Never saw a pork steak cut that thick! This is the kind of a breakfast where you will not need lunch.

Growing up in Springfield it was disappointing that we found this gem prior to moving to Washington. We didn’t let the 2,000+ miles keep us from visiting frequently. Now we’re back in Southern Illinois and the 4 hour drive is still worth it.

Food is always spot on, same great taste and impeccable service. It’s like coming home to family and even with the distance we are always welcomed with a smile. Don’t miss out!!

It’s nice and very friendly family restaurant. We were there at Sunday night, that’s their family dinner night. Food was tasty, the owner was very nice and honestly. We may go back try their normal menu, we was told by another customer their chill is very good in town.
