Visiting from Texas and this spot was recommended — and wow, what a find! Coney Island Hot Wieners has been serving up classic chili cheese dogs since 1924, and it’s clear they’ve perfected the art. The place has that old-school, no-fuss charm that you just can’t fake. From the OU football schedules lacing the walls to the cozy, worn booths, it’s like stepping back in time — in the best way. The real MVP? The only person behind the counter doing it all. She’s been working there over 40 years and brings serious character to the place. She’s quick with the dogs and even quicker with the wit. Watching her work is half the fun! As for the food — chef’s kiss. The buns are fresh and soft. The hot dogs are loaded with meaty chili and a generous layer of shredded cheddar, served piping hot and full of flavor. Simple, classic, and absolutely delicious.

I stopped in for lunch because I’ve always associated this place with a nostalgic, classic Coney-style hot dog vibe. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t match the expectation.
As soon as I walked in, there was a very strong odor inside the building. I understand older buildings can have a distinct smell, but it was overwhelming and made it difficult to want to stay and eat.
While waiting in line, I also noticed the employee behind the counter preparing food without gloves and touching multiple surfaces in between, which raised concerns about cleanliness and possible cross-contamination. Because of this, I decided not to place an order and left.
I really wanted this visit to be a positive, nostalgic experience, but the overall environment and food-handling practices made me uncomfortable.

CASH ONLY HERE! hiving 4 stars because this is one of the last, reasonably priced places to eat in downtown OKC. I love the vibe. But it doesn’t feel especially clean in all honesty. Straight up cheese dogs. Nothing fancy. I’ll definitely come back.

Sometimes you just got to eat what you love! A sense of nostalgia for the good ol days! Had lunch at Coney Island today like many other times in my life. This is a place where everyone is welcome and it is cash only. If you are tight on funds this is a spot that is lite on the wallet, but heavy on the taste. There is nothing more satisfying than a chili cheese hot dog. I will always love coming here and miss seeing the owner play chess with his friends. Enjoy!

I love all the memorabilia on the walls, their Frito Pies are delish, and what else can I say? It’s Coney Island! A classic. The only con I see with this one is parking close by is hit or miss.

People complaining here are just wrong. This is a great little place. Yes, there’s only 1 lady doing everything, but she’s amazing. She’s taking 2 or 3 orders at a time. She has that diner waitress personality that comes out in the banter with customers. My wife was watching her work. She said, “your making me nervous. Stop watching and get back here and help!” Clearly joking and good natured. We had dogs and a frito pie. Awesome. I wish we lived here.
You may need to clean off a table, if you’re put off by that… get it to go.
