I’ve been ordering The Hal for a while because it was genuinely perfect when I first started getting it. Recently though, the sandwich has been really inconsistent.
Some days the bread is toasted, other days it isn’t. Lately there’s also been a butter-garlic toast on the bread, which isn’t bad, but it’s a noticeable change that isn’t mentioned in the description. It’s frustrating ordering the same sandwich and getting a different version each time, especially when consistency is what made it great to begin with.
The sandwich itself is still good — I just wish it matched the description and was prepared the same way every time. Consistency would make a big difference.

Hey! So I didn’t go to the restaurant, I ordered for delivery. I went to one years ago in Astoria and loved it, so was ecstatic to see that there was one in Jersey! I ordered their Hal’s hero and lemme just say, sis, Hal made it do what it do, YaYa! It was thee perfect ratio from Turkey, to cheese, to mayo, to salt n vinegar chips, to lettuce and tomato, to bread! Just, so well done! The fact that they had salt and vinegar chips? Are you serious?? Babyyyyy, that pickle-y crunch? Please! And thank you. They were not skimpy with the turkey at all. At first, I was wondering if I should order extra turkey, but Compton’s are not doing those Subway portions, babes. They give you what you pay for, hear me?! It is greatly appreciated. Also, a lot of places don’t add enough sauce or mayo. There was the perfect amount of mayo on my Hal’s hero. It is greatly appreciated! I will be ordering again and again, Compton’s!

First time here. I don’t eat meat so tried the Waldorf tuna wrap. IMO way too much mayo, I didn’t taste any raisins or walnuts at all which is reason I bought Waldorf tuna. Price was high. Should come with a little something at that price ($14) Presentation was not elegant. I suggest cutting it on an angle and serve with a little something that won’t cost you much but make the customer feel less cheated. Like a tiny bit of Cole slaw,, macaroni salad, potato salad,, chips, or pickle. Like most sandwich shops do. I like the games everywhere, connect 4, uno and cards at every table. Very cute. Not sure I’ll be back bc of taste. Also quality and choice of wrap (only plain) no spinach or whole wheat, is not enough for a sandwich shop at these prices. Thank you.

I love it. The corn nuggets and the melts are my go tops. I most recently tried the Philly cheesesteak and it was savory. I like the restaurant style. Tgey have games you can play while you wait for your food to be freshly made. The staff is very welcoming and don’t mind explaining the menu. I recommend to all my friends whenever they visit Cliffside Park, NJ. Keep up the good work and build one in Riverdale so I can have it more often.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ COMPTON’S is the kind of neighborhood gem you want everyone to know about — but secretly hope stays just yours. The sandwiches are massive, flavor‑packed, and clearly made with care. From the turkey hero with lime aioli to the Jaclyn with eggplant, every bite hits that perfect bread‑to‑filling ratio. The Reuben is a must‑try, and their chop cheese deserves all the hype.
What really sets COMPTON’S apart is the vibe: the owners make you feel welcome the second you walk in, and the service is as good as the food. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite at the counter or settling in at one of the few tables, you’ll leave full and happy.

This is a pretty decent place that comes in handy when I need a quick meal after work. I am a sandwich fan, so when they opened up I was pretty excited. I tried a few things on the menu including their chopped cheese, chicken bacon ranch, and the burrata BLT. I typically order pick up off uber eats because they offer a buy 1 get 1 deal on certain sandwiches based on the day. I will say the quality is definitely there. The burrata taste fresh, and the bacon went nicely with it. The chopped cheese was not bad, but the chicken and bacon ranch needs a major edit. I don’t eat sandwiches without cheese, and lets be realistic if a sandwich has chicken cutlet, bacon, it needs cheese. That is like serving a greek gyro wrap with no feta or a chicken parm with no melted mozzarella on top. I had to take the sandwich apart and apply my own cheese which was annoying because sandwich lovers know once you assemble the sandwich, it is done you don’t open the hat to add more. It is literally begging for melted cheese and there is no option on uber eats to add cheese. One could argue this is not the restaurants fault; virtually every other restaurant I order off of in uber eats has an option to add you’re own preferences. I once had to call this place to tell them not to add ketchup to my sandwich that I ordered because there was no option to edit on Uber eats which is crazy. Some people don’t like ketchup, you can’t expect us to call every time we make an order through an app to say hey no ketchup please that is enough to discourage me from ordering. I don’t like talking on the phone and want to avoid it at all cost hence why I use apps to order. They need to have an option for comments so that people can actually fine tune their order to what they want. When I last picked up my sandwich, I mentioned my lack of cheese complaint and they said you can call us to add it and we will increase the price. The sandwich is expensive enough if adding a slice of cheese is going to boost the price, I am not interested. I worked at restaurants, I have served sandwiches, I know for a fact that adding a slice of cheese will cost them next to nothing so I am not even giving that argument a chance to surface. Even if they did not charge extra for the cheese, I am not calling them to ask to add cheese to my sandwich that is incredibly annoying. I give this place 3 stars because the food itself is decent, but the lack of options on the app and the recommendation to call in orders to get them the way I want is not good enough in 2025. If you order a sandwich from here and have absolutely no edits, this may be the place for you but I never seen a restaurant on uber eats not include that little blurb to add preferences. If they fix this, it would boost them to 4 stars but I can’t give more than 3 with the lack of options.

Loved the sandwiches, especially the bread choice. He got the Oh Em Gee which reminded us of cleaner fat sandwiches and I got the vodka chicken parm. Washed everything down with Joe Teas and a big order of french fries, will definitely come again to try the other sandwiches ↕️❤️

Ordered delivery today for lunch…delicious! The tater tots transferred well – still warm & crispy. The red pepper aioli was flavorful with a touch of heat. Grilled chicken burrata so filling & fresh. Others enjoyed the berry smoothie, old fashioned, the Izzy. Everyone was pleased and we look forward to ordering again!

Good local sandwich place. The owners are honest people.
My recommendation: consider selling half sandwiches on the menu and charge little more than half price. You’ll attract more customers that way, and the half sandwich is already filling. Thank me later bros.

Just picked up a Crispy fish sandwich for lunch. It was a huge disappointment. Bread was dry and very stale and almost inedible. The fish itself was very oily and seemed like the fish was refried with yesterday’s leftover. If you’re going to charge $15 for a sandwich (only) it’s gotta be done better than this.
