Nestled in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago, Community is a new American restaurant owned and operated by husband and wife team, Joey & Brenna Beato. Our dream has always been to run our very own elevated ‘mom & pop’ restaurant in the neighborhood we call home. Chef Joey combines seasonal, local midwestern ingredients with pan-Asian influences. Community’s extensive beverage program complements Joey’s dishes with a diverse wine selection, creative cocktails and craft beer. Our team is small and tight-knit, feeling more like family than colleagues. This fosters an environment of sincere, warm hospitality that radiates throughout our walls. Community is truly a labor of love in more ways than one.

The blue-prawn dumplings were particularly delicious. I also greatly enjoyed the pasilla noodle. The environment was very warm and welcoming and there was a buzz of life and excitement in the facility. All the dishes, in addition to being delicious, wete beautifully presented. Cocktails were also presented nicely and perfectly balanced with some inventive combinations. The mezcal cocktails were very enjoyable.
All told, it was awesome and we will certainly be back.
Our only complaint, and I would really characterize it as more of an opportunity to improve or a less successful culinary experiment, was the pandan creme brûlée. I love creme brûlée, and when I see one on a menu, I order it, no exceptions. This version was overpowered by the pandan flavor and the custard hadn’t set as much as I would have liked. Perhaps a bit less pandan would have worked better. All told with the blackberry and thai basil it was a unique and enjoyable bite, but I probably would not order this dish again…
We will be back for certain. A jem of Portage Park to be sure.
The food is consistent, creative, delicious and beautifully presented. They even surprised us with a couple of complimentary dishes today, which really made our night and gave a chance to try dishes we normally wouldn’t. Highly recommend for a date night out or to celebrate an intimate occasion.
We will definitely make this a regular spot & we are excited to come back for dinner.
I will say that we had one interaction we could’ve done without. One of the individuals who dropped off food at our table turned to my husband asking why he didn’t set out the app plates to then turn and look at me speaking on some other man that did and how he has “big muscles.” My husband and myself were in drop conversation and enjoying our time. That was not only an odd comment but again, one that wasn’t needed. Other than that, the service, the vibe and the food were amazing.
If 1 year olds were fine to attend, not sure why the a la carte menu was “removed” when they brought out burgers for each of the kids and informed me I couldn’t get a burger to go.
Unfortunately, the overall experience was severely diminished because of the families around us being loud, babies banging on tables and we wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very good restaurant, but don’t do the events as the food choice is limited and if it’s a special occasion be aware there may be children attending as well. We would’ve gone elsewhere if it was clearly stated children were welcome for that night.
