Social Profile:

Nestled in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago, Community is a new American restaurant owned and operated by husband and wife team, Joey & Brenna Beato. Our dream has always been to run our very own elevated ‘mom & pop’ restaurant in the neighborhood we call home. Chef Joey combines seasonal, local midwestern ingredients with pan-Asian influences. Community’s extensive beverage program complements Joey’s dishes with a diverse wine selection, creative cocktails and craft beer. Our team is small and tight-knit, feeling more like family than colleagues. This fosters an environment of sincere, warm hospitality that radiates throughout our walls. Community is truly a labor of love in more ways than one.

An elevated American menu from a husband-&-wife team served in a narrow, elegant space.

We really enjoyed our experience from start to finish. It is the little things that make all the difference. The service and team were all knowledgeable and welcoming. Specifics aspects of service that we enjoyed were the clean plates between each course. All the food was delicious. Thoughtful, well-balanced dishes marked our experience. The woman who ran a number of dishes and took the time to describe each dish was particularly genuine and we appreciated her attention to detail. Our server was fine and was indeed attentive.

The blue-prawn dumplings were particularly delicious. I also greatly enjoyed the pasilla noodle. The environment was very warm and welcoming and there was a buzz of life and excitement in the facility. All the dishes, in addition to being delicious, wete beautifully presented. Cocktails were also presented nicely and perfectly balanced with some inventive combinations. The mezcal cocktails were very enjoyable.

All told, it was awesome and we will certainly be back.

Our only complaint, and I would really characterize it as more of an opportunity to improve or a less successful culinary experiment, was the pandan creme brûlée. I love creme brûlée, and when I see one on a menu, I order it, no exceptions. This version was overpowered by the pandan flavor and the custard hadn’t set as much as I would have liked. Perhaps a bit less pandan would have worked better. All told with the blackberry and thai basil it was a unique and enjoyable bite, but I probably would not order this dish again…

We will be back for certain. A jem of Portage Park to be sure.

We are so excited about this place, such a great find! Top #5 burger in Chicago, super delicious food, the dumplings are incredible, and loved the Dan Dan Noodles. Great service, very friendly, felt warm and inviting, and it is such a unique & delicious local spot. Will absolutely be coming back!

This is one of our favorite spots! The staff is warm, knowledgeable, and attentive-and a special shout-out to the GM Karen who always greets us so warmly.

The food is consistent, creative, delicious and beautifully presented. They even surprised us with a couple of complimentary dishes today, which really made our night and gave a chance to try dishes we normally wouldn’t. Highly recommend for a date night out or to celebrate an intimate occasion.

I dined at Community Tavern in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood and really appreciated their bold, globally inspired menu—especially dishes like the ramp kimchi dumplings and the Community Bibimbap which were flavorful and inventive. The fried marble potatoes and BBQ pork ribs were decadent and satisfying, though a couple of plates felt a bit heavy or overly salty. The ambiance was warm and lively, with an inviting wooden bar, blue-accented walls, and a friendly energy that made the experience memorable. Overall, most dishes delivered, and it was a fun, tasty outing

This is a hidden gem in Chicago! WOW! The service was spot on & we had a large party. All food was delivered together and everyone received the correct plate with no direction. The food was in another league. We were there for Mother’s Day brunch & everything was on point.
We will definitely make this a regular spot & we are excited to come back for dinner.

Normally I don’t like doing reviews, but feel this is needed! My husband and I finally had the opportunity to go on a date. I just want to highlight that our server, Nena, was attentive! The staff overall was very attentive.
I will say that we had one interaction we could’ve done without. One of the individuals who dropped off food at our table turned to my husband asking why he didn’t set out the app plates to then turn and look at me speaking on some other man that did and how he has “big muscles.” My husband and myself were in drop conversation and enjoying our time. That was not only an odd comment but again, one that wasn’t needed. Other than that, the service, the vibe and the food were amazing.

I have been living in area my whole and never realized I pass by here almost every day driving. This place is extremely cozy and very nice inside. The mushroom dumpling was so delicious I ordered another one for myself. The Double Cheeseburger is really good and my wife had the Fluke. Super delicious overall. The waiter we had was super nice and walked us through the menu. Loved his sense of humor. Will definitely be back!

I’ve lived in the city my entire life but moved to Avondale a year ago and have been making the rounds at the local restaurants. We finally made it here and wow! This place reminds me of a Korean version of Chef Special. Everything about our meal was incredible. Service, the food, the drinks, all of it. One of the better meals we’ve had in the city. If your near by it’s a must go and if your farther out it’s worth the journey. The carrots and short rib dumplings were standouts. Short rib dumpling might be one of the best bites of food I’ve ever had.

Attended the Valentine’s Day event with my wife. We were sat down in-between two families with each of them having 1 year olds. It was not the romantic/adult event we thought it was going to be given this was a 4 course meal. We had left our children at home given the menu that was provided ahead of time.

If 1 year olds were fine to attend, not sure why the a la carte menu was “removed” when they brought out burgers for each of the kids and informed me I couldn’t get a burger to go.

Unfortunately, the overall experience was severely diminished because of the families around us being loud, babies banging on tables and we wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very good restaurant, but don’t do the events as the food choice is limited and if it’s a special occasion be aware there may be children attending as well. We would’ve gone elsewhere if it was clearly stated children were welcome for that night.
