I wanted to try something different outside of the regular breakfast/brunch menus and this place got my attention when I checked online. I had the sweet potato bowl and it was delicious!!! Different and exotic combination of flavors, loved it❤️ oh and the Peanut butter honey Cafe latte with oatmilk was exquisite!

Jaimie provided excellent service and was very attentive, taking the time to explain the menu thoroughly. I appreciate the farm-to-table concept, which adds a fresh and considerate touch to the dining experience. While the prices are on the higher side, the food is flavorful and well-prepared. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is professional and welcoming. It

Everything was local, natural, and delicious. Texture of everything was beautiful, bursting with flavor. Chicken was moist and seasoned, waffle was gorgeously textured and almost fruity from the corn, the sandwich was juicy and buttery and flavorful with so many textures marrying together! It felt like all the food was prepared with respect for its origins, and that came through wonderfully. Literally the only thing that didn’t totally delight me, was that the holly tea just wasn’t my thing, as it’s more savory than tea-like, but I’m still glad I tried it! It was cool to have a truly local option! I loved this place, would love to go back someday, if I’m ever back in VA Beach!

Hearty meals best for breakfast or brunch on the weekend. Some items were amazing while others were amiss. Highly recommend the chicken friend mushrooms. Do not recommend the big salad since most of the root vegetables were undercooked and hard in the middle.

We enjoyed this interesting restaurant. Communal seating – you will likely not sit at a table alone. We had two others at the other end of the table. It seemed as if this was the norm: large farm table with different parties at each end of the table.
I enjoyed my fried rice bowl. My husband had the Commune Burger and said it was tasty but needed some substance. Each time he took a bite the burger patty squeezed out.
Excellent service. Nothing to damper the sound so it is a bit noisy.

The drinks were amazing (turmeric black pepper latte & Peanut Butter & Honey). If you like it sweeter, there’s cane sugar at the table.
The food was wholesome and tasty (sweet potato bowl & corned beef hash)
The atmosphere was chill and calm. Lovely, calm music filled the air while we dined.
We will be back.

I lovvvee Commune! I wish I could go everyday! Last time I went, I got the Belgium waffle made with cornmeal with amazing butter & syrup, with fried chicken & a sunny side egg. Ughhhhh freaking drooling! if youre reading reviews to determine whether to go, GO! fresh, whole, delicious food!

I love it here. Never had a bad experience. The food is always so good. And their lattes are perfect.
I don’t think the waitress told us her name but she was good and attentive.
I typically will get the chicken and waffles but I did something different and got the burger. It was really good and the side of potatoes were cooked so well.
The apple pie latte was so freakin good.
The aesthetic in there is the best. The wood is great. The tables look hand crafted.
Go.

Gave Commune a few tries now and it’s been the same thing every time: long wait for food (45+ mins), a forgettable and confusing meal, and an obscenely high check at the end to really top it off. The decent service does not outweigh an overall poor experience.
Today really broke me though. Seated instantly and put in our coffee and food orders within a few minutes. We ordered the special, which was grits with a choice of protein, poached egg, and veggies.
45 minutes later, we get two heaping bowls of lumpy grits with absolutely zero seasoning or taste (or cheese?), bland poached egg, RAW carrot ends and cold beets with 2 leaves of kale. It was something you’d feed a horse.
End total for that masterpiece? $55 without tip.
Again, it’s not this specific meal, it’s been the handful of other times I’ve visited when it wasn’t busy and received a mediocre meal for an eye watering price. I won’t make the same mistake again!
