My husband and I stopped into Columbine Steakhouse & Lounge in Denver off Federal, and WOW — this place deserves all the love! We both ordered the T-bone steak and it was absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and you can tell it’s real, quality meat.
The meal came with a homemade baked potato loaded with the most delicious butter, a fresh salad, and a piece of toast — that old-school goodness you don’t find everywhere anymore. Our son got the corn dog with their homemade cut fries, and he loved every bite.
We added A1 sauce, a little honey, grabbed some drinks, and our whole meal STILL came out to under $60. You seriously cannot beat that kind of price for the quality you get.
Affordable, authentic, delicious food that makes you feel like you’re being fed the real deal — Columbine Steakhouse & Lounge is officially one of our favorite spots now. Highly recommend checking them out!
The steak was amazing! The potato was great! Homemade salad dressing and homemade BBQ sauce!
I am incredibly impressed
I am now in my mid 20s and figured, maybe that experience 6 or 7 years ago should be revisited now. Upon arriving and waiting for my coworker to hit his vape a few times before going in, I was met with what felt like organized but unorganized chaos. I got the NY Strip “medium rare” you can quote me on that, and my coworker, the t-bone, rare.
Somehow through the scuffle of getting our tray and paying we had ended up with our Texas toast and salad. Surprisingly it was very busy for an early Friday afternoon but we were able to get what I think were the last 2 seats available in the small but cozy dining area. Can’t say I have any complaints about the food at this point, I got ranch dressing for my salad which was great and the Texas toast maybe being the weakest part of the duo but by no means a bad piece of toast.
After hearing about a million steaks get called out (because you’re supposed to keep your ear open for your cut and doneness to go back up and get it). It finally came to the point where we were the only 2 who hadn’t gotten their steaks so seeing the 2 waiting for us I went up. When chef saw me he immediately started reprimanding the sous chef since he remembered that we had both ordered steaks on the rarer side which I guess ended up being taken at some point earlier by some other patrons. Chef did apologize to me, only after I stood awkwardly with both hands on the plates at the counter for 30 seconds while chef and sous argued over who got what and why others are picking up food they didn’t order.
I don’t think it’s fair to rank our steaks seeing as whoever they were supposed to go to wanted well done for some reason. Regardless though, the reason we got the incorrect order was because of the inefficiencies in this restaurant, somehow calling out steak cuts and their doneness was deemed more appropriate for order accuracy rather than asking for someone’s name or giving them a number to be called out when the food is ready.
As for the steak itself, my well done NY strip that was medium rare was still enjoyable, overcooked albeit considering I like my steak cooked the right way but by no fault of chef.
By the time we were done eating, the lunch rush was over and I couldn’t help but to think, what if we had come in at this time? Would the organized-unorganized chaos have made sense? Would I have had a significantly better experience? Would people have gotten orders that they had actually ordered? There are a lot of things I think they could implement to make patron’s overall experience better here and it’s unfortunate that maybe the reason they don’t do that is because of the “charm” they get with being so old school.
On our way out, chef apologized to us again which I really did appreciate a lot, it’s part of the reason I want to give this place another shot. How good can this place be when I catch them on a good day? Only time will tell.

The service is incredibly quick—a truly reliable, never-disappointing steakhouse experience
And they have a bar too
3rd and Federal you can’t miss it
If you like meat this is the place to go!!! Great fresh meat cuts, on the side you can have baked potato, French fries and some other options.
Came with a small portion of salad( fresh).
By the other hands if you want a quiet place with a nice atmosphere to eat I don’t know if it’s the right place. It’s small so tables are close to each other and noisy .
Find an ATM before coming..
On the positive side, the steak is genuinely very good. That part is undeniable.
However, the overall experience does not live up to the reputation. The place feels unattended and dated. I have no issue with an old restaurant on the contrary, “old” can be a strength but there is a difference between vintage charm and neglect. An establishment can honor its history while still feeling cared for and intentional.
The biggest issue, unfortunately, is the service. It is essentially nonexistent. Being listed among the top 10 places to eat steak is not enough if the basics of hospitality are missing.
For a restaurant that has been in business since the 1960s, this place deserves to reconnect with its roots and shine again. I’m sure it was once known not only for great food, but also for being a great place with genuinely good service. Right now, that legacy feels underutilized.
No pics today not worthy this time
I’ll be back. Halfway through my steak I saw a diner go to a shelf behind the soda machine to grab honey and steal sauces. I wish I would’ve known from the start. We even said “this is our first time here.” But still it was tasty without.
