Founded in 1731, it’s a Revolutionary War site where then site owner Joshua Huddy of the NJ militia battled with local loyalist Steven Lippincott in 1782. An incident leading to the Asgill affair, an international problem between Washington, the British, and the loyalists including NJ Governor William Franklin.
I would recommend visiting the place at least one time, especially if you are interested in World history; particularly that of NJ, the UK, the USA and the American Revolutionary War.
I stayed at the Hotel next door and walked over every day for a Caesar salad which was delicious.
Thanks for taking care of me, Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse!

Updated Review. I tried the competition’s Caesar Salad on Monday while this lovely restaurant was closed. The Caesar Salad at the Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse was far larger, had more quality cheese and dressing, and delicious crostini. The competition cost less, but was also much more inferior in quality and value in my opinion. You get what you pay for. I recommend eating here if you’re debating whether to try them or their competition.
For appetizers, we started off with the garlic parm chicken drumettes. The chicken was so juicy and I adored the presentation. The garlic cheesy cream was the sauce of my dreams.
The french onion soup came bubbling over with that cheesy pull we all love. It’s a steakhouse staple!
And yes — they even serve fresh sushi! The rainbow salmon tuna roll was a sushi dream wrapped in every bite and made for a unique menu addition.
Dinner stole the show — the spicy vodka rigatoni packed bold flavor and heat, making it a great meal for those who love a comfort meal with a kick. The filet mignon was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, cooked exactly how a steak should be, with a nice helping of mashed potatoes and asparagus.
And just when we thought it couldn’t get better… dessert. The warm, house-made bread pudding was insanely comforting, and the rich chocolate cake? Fresh from the owner’s daughter’s bakery (Fancy Cakes NJ) — a sweet family touch you won’t find anywhere else.
If you’re looking for your next dinner spot in Colts Neck — trust me, the Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse is worth every bite!
My girlfriend and I split our entrées and had about half of the porterhouse and halibut left. We asked for it to be wrapped up, waited about 20 minutes, and were then told it had been thrown out by mistake because they assumed we didn’t want it. Our waiter was kind and offered to remake it, but we ended up waiting about an hour total.
When the manager came over, she was passive-aggressive and asked if we really wanted them to “recook leftovers.” She specifically said halibut can’t just be microwaved and has to be baked, implying it would take extra time and effort — which felt unnecessary since the mistake was on their end.
They did remake a full piece of halibut, which we appreciated, but only gave us about three small pieces of steak instead of replacing the large portion of porterhouse that had been thrown away. The bill was already expensive, and we spent another $50 at the bar while waiting. A gesture like drinks or a gift card would have gone a long way.
The bartenders were excellent — very kind, and one even made my girlfriend a great custom drink. Unfortunately, the way this was handled makes it hard to recommend the place.
You must get the bang, bang, shrimp, any and all of the sushi to start. The lamb chop chops were also quite tasty!
For dinner, you must get a steak, and try the rigatoni vodka ..It is creamy delicious absolutely mind blowing!
I can highly recommend the raspberry Leche martini and also the espresso martini for dessert! The cake was just incredible and also this delectable bread pudding. I cannot wait to go back
Amber was our server and she was fantastic. She constantly checked on us made sure we were happy, never let a drink get half empty and told us to take as much time as we needed and didn’t make us feel rushed at all.
For the appetizers we got lamb chops, tuna tartare and the steak sliders. The lamb chops were delicious, like butter. The steak sliders might have been my favorite thing, the tuna was very good as well (note: it’s frozen packaged tuna, not fresh) and I think they use chips straight out of a chip bag. I think a nicer touch would be a house made chip.
For dinner we had a ribeye and a NY strip. The ribeye was cooked perfect, very tasty with a good fat to meat ratio, and the strip was also very good and tender. The French fries are delicious by the way that come with the strip!
Overall I feel this place is very good. I don’t think $24 for apps is completely worth it I think they’re a bit overpriced for what you get (3 steak sliders, frozen tuna, with chips out of a chip bag) but everything was tasty. I will definitely be putting this place on my list of restaurants I frequent and I look forward to coming back soon!
The decor could use some improvement—everything was gray, which made the space feel dull. Adding a few bold colors (prints or drapes) would really liven up the atmosphere. Additionally, a solid wall between the bar and dining area would help separate the two spaces. It was very distracting to have a clear view of three large TV screens and a bustling bar whenever I looked across the table to talk to my hubby.
The service was slow at first but improved as the evening went on. A nice touch was the manager or owner personally visiting each table to check in on guests, which showed a genuine care for customer satisfaction. Overall, it was a decent experience with room for a few improvements.
