Social Profile:

In 1935, a post-Prohibition tavern named Colony Grill opened in an Irish immigrant neighborhood in Stamford, Connecticut. Since then, Colony has become famous for what is now its only menu offering:a one-of-a-kind, thin-crust pizza that is best served with the signature hot oil topping.

Local chain serving thin-crust pizzas with a signature hot oil in a casual setting with TVs & a bar.

I now know that Connecticut pizza is a “thing”, and that “apizza” thing is delicious…the thin, charred crust is a must! The venue is a warm and wonderful spot in midtown for a feel-good, comforting experience. The casual atmosphere is cozy and the staff is extremely welcoming. Tennille deserves a shout-out for her bright-spirited service and smiles! See you again soon!

The place was oddly dead when I came on a Thursday evening (almost uncomfortably dead lol). I know it’s not the original but I came here because Dave Portnoy gave the one in Connecticut a high review. Its a super unique style of pizza, super thin crust with a cheesey top. I found it to be good but not great. Definitely wouldn’t disappoint, but wouldn’t make you go out of your way for it. 7.2 – that’s the review! 7.2

It’s not Connecticut pizza. It’s more like matzo with a little cheese and even less sauce. They didn’t add pounds of sugar to the pizza like most Florida pizzerias, so that was a plus.

I was thrilled when I found a Connecticut chain; I texted people before I went. I had to reply back later to say it wasn’t Connecticut pizza.

Ordered pepperoni, onion and hot oil. The hot oil is a nice touch. Oil infused with serrano peppers. Elizabeth’s service was attentive and spot on, but her voice is that of an angel. Truly a mix of Jesus and Fergie. Yes, they only serve pizza; if you are surprised by that you are lazy and walk blindly through life.

Nice place to relax for a drink and pizza. Service is terrific. Great staff. But this place is about their pizza. So had to try two! And where we are with two different opinions.

First up was the sausage, mushroom, onion had excellent fresh toppings. 5 stars for the toppers. As for the pie though. Felt it could have been a little more well done as the middle was a bit floppy. But it still held together well. A bit more sauce and tad more cheese would have been great, as the cheese was ‘thin’ and the sauce not at all in the flavor profile. But then, it may have been too floppy. So maybe you don’t mess with years of experience as this is a tavern style pie done their way.

Second up to be curious, ordered a cheese. Okay. Same review. So A+ for consistency. The same exact pie that is light on cheese and sauce, with a bit of flop in the middle. Was intesting since thought it would crisp up a bit more being just cheese. But then, impressed at the consistency.

Overall. Sure. I’d return. It’s an okay pizza that’s light on its feet and super thin. A great lunch pie actually. I would go with a few toppings and request a little extra sauce, a little extra cheese, and just a tad longer on the cook time to bring the crisp to the middle but carful not to burn the edges too much. Maybe that is the winner for me, or maybe it doesn’t work and they already perfected this style for those who love this style as is.

And as far as the other opinion. The donkey thinks I am being a bit harsh. The ol’ donkey loved the pizza and was overjoyed I did not put the fish on it. He felt is was just a nice little pie as is and thinks it should get an extra star. But I’m sticking with a 3 star.

This is now one of my favorite pizza spots in the area. It is extremely well executed. It has a very flavorful cheese. The sauce is doing its job without causing issues. The thin crispy crust is a total winner. I normally do not like my crust paper-thin but this was wonderful. The balance of flavors is great. I would like a touch more cheese. This is an absolute must try for any pizza fans. Trust me!

I feel bad writing this review because the manager (from CT) was super awesome, friendly, great guy. But the pizza was a major disappointment. Just to set expectations, this is not a New Haven style pizza, it’s an extra thin pan pizza. Think Pizza Hut pan pizza that an elephant sat on…. The dough looks like it’s flattened by a tortilla press, it was dripping with oil when folded, floppier than Neymar. The edges were the best part, crispy cheese. The signature peppers were great to mask the lack of flavor from the sauce. The cheese was drowning in oil so couldn’t judge the quality. Cold rise, nice and chewy, and that’s all I got…

Super good thin crust pizza! The sauce is sweet, the crust is crispy with some char but not burnt. The hot oil is amazing! Definitely recommend coming here for a bite and a drink. The decor and vibes were very fun and welcoming. Staff is so nice and attentive.

Awesome thin crust pizza in Tampa! Love the hot oil pie but all of the toppings we’ve had are great. We’ve gone here for some beers with friends as well, great spot

Thought the bar was decorated really cool. Ordered beers and pepperoni pizza with their “famous” hot oil. This pizza was beyond pathetic. Frozen pizza from Publix blows this place out of the water. I cannot understand how they are still in business. Skip this place and go to Grimaldi’s instead!
